Seven Day Detox

If you're looking for an easy fast detox, the lemon detox diet is definitely one of the best. It's a popular diet which revolves around a wholly natural drink which comes from the syrup of organic trees and is blended with the juice from fresh lemons, water and some pepper. The syrup is made up of a mixture of palm and maple syrups, and is though to offer a beneficial balance of minerals and vitamins to the concoction. This diet is a great way to get rid of those nasty toxins from your body, and will even help you lose weight at the same time. The diet consists of little else other than this mixture to help detoxify and leave the body healed and healthy This diet is a great way to get rid of those nasty toxins from your body, and will even help you lose weight at the same time. The diet consists of little else other than this mixture to help detoxify and leave the body healed and healthy. The syrup element of the drink is high in natural sugars to provide the body with the energy it needs to curb hunger during the programme. The calorie content of one glass is around 70 calories, and it is rich in zinc and calcium in almost exact proportions for the needs of the human body. The lemon detox diet itself works on the basis of seven days fasting in which only the lemon drink and water are consumed along with any medication which may also be prescribed for ingestion during the duration. Patients can expect to remain active, drawing energy from the calories contained within the drink, and should expect symptoms such as dizziness or light-headedness in the first few days as toxins begin their course through the bloodstream. It is also advisable to maintain a course of light exercise during the diet as well as some general breathing activities to increase the blood flow and speed up the release of toxins from the body. After the fast it is crucial not to recommence normal eating habits as this can cause serious damage to the body. It is best to start with fruit juices and lighter foods to allow for a gradual build up back onto a healthy diet. The process of fasting for dieting and detox is dangerous, even with the lemon detox diet, so it's important to consult your physician before deciding to embark on such an endeavour. The lemon detox diet provides the body with balanced and nutritional support, although as of yet there is no evidence to suggest adverse longer term effects on the body, although research is beginning into the pros and cons of this type of regime. Although the diet can be carried out by anyone for short periods of time, it is advisable to speak to your medical practitioner before undergoing any fasting plan for a general analysis of your health. This will also provide an opportunity to consult your doctor about alternative plans to the lemon detox diet which may be more beneficial given your physical condition. Fasting can be dangerous for the inexperienced or naive, so it's important to do your research and only fast in accordance with your doctor's guidelines for your own safety and wellbeing.

How To Detox Heavy Metals From Your Body

A Detox Patch is a lymph support sachet that has been developed from over 25 years of medical research in Japan and Korea. Containing a mixture of powdered herbal ingredients, the patch aids the body in releasing sweat (a lymph derivative) that has been stored in the foot tissues, thus supporting detoxification of a congested and often sluggish lymph system. How do the patches work? The patches work by a two-fold process: by stimulating the reflexology and acupuncture points on the bottom of the foot, and by drawing off stagnant sweat/lymph fluid that has settled in the foot. By drawing off this toxic fluid, the lymph system at large is gently stimulated, thus further promoting healthy release of impurities. The secondary release will normally take place through normal urine excretion. The patches are placed on the bottom of the foot - either on the arch, heel or ball of foot. 1-3 patches may be placed on each foot at any time. It is often recommended to place the patches on both the left and right foot during any given session, as reflexology points for a particular organ or structure may appear on both feet. The wear time is from 6-9 hours. People who tend to hold fluids in their body may need a shorter wear time, as the patch may fill up in as little as 4-5 hours. Wearing the patches at night makes detoxification sense, as this is the time the body goes into a natural detox cycle. However, patches may be worn during the day as well. Tip: you may want to reinforce the edges of the adhesives with extra medical tape, or wear a light sock to prevent kicking off patch during sleep. The patch functions as a toxin vacuum cleaner suctioning out the waste in the form of sweat (dirty, toxin-filled lymph fluid) under osmotic pressure from the blood and lymph systems. Just as sitting in a sauna causes your body to sweat out impurities, so do the patches work in a similar way, they just use a different method to pull out the impurities. Typical patch ingredients Each ingredient in the patch is carefully chosen: some warm the foot, which increases circulation; other ingredients then draw the toxins out through the opened pores, while yet other ingredients act as disinfectants and antiseptics. Most patches use dried vinegar powders of trees such as oak, bamboo, and cypress; tourmaline (a far infra red emitter), and various herbs. Some companies also include vitamins, fragrances, and fruit essences in their patch ingredients, but whether these extra ingredients really make a difference, is questionable. Finally, a patch needs to contain an absorption agent i.e. something to absorb and hold in the sweat being pulled into the patch. Some companies use chitosan, a shellfish product, while dextrin is also used. (For more information on how to choose a patch with the right combination of ingredients, see my article Don't Buy a Detox Foot Patch Until You Read This!) What will I see when I remove the patches? Upon removing the patch after 6-9 hours of wear, you will usually observe a brown, slushy residue on and in the patch. The residue represents a combination of sweat drawn out of your foot tissues and the patch ingredients interacting over the wear time. The residue color will vary from a light- to dark brown, sometimes even black, dark green or gray, and may feel slushy. In addition there may be a foul smell. Lest you are shrieking aghast in horror, know that the "brown goop" has not come out of your body; rather this represents the interaction of the extracted fluid and the patch ingredients over time. How do I know the patches work? A review of the literature shows that independent laboratory analyses have determined the toxin residue to include toxic metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium and thallium; benzene, plastic by-products and PCBs; asbestos; fast green dye and Sudan black dye; methyl and isopropyl alcohols, excess sodium and copper; bacteria, and old medication chemicals. Keep in mind that at any given time, you may have dozens and dozens of toxins present in your system, but most labs will run limited panels of specific categories: heavy metals, volatiles, biologicals. So unless you want comprehensive, very expensive screenings, you may never know all the toxins present in your system. Why detoxification is a good idea When it comes to dealing with toxins, the best DEFENSE may be a strong OFFENSE. The food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the cleansers, cosmetics and personal products we use, and the industries we live near ALL contain thousands of toxins--hundreds of which may end up in our bodies, despite our best efforts to avoid them. As toxins accumulate, our body becomes overwhelmed trying to eliminate them. Over time, if the toxins are not removed, the symptoms may lead to various debilitating and chronic conditions. Efforts we make to support our body's detoxification may pay big dividends in the short- and long-term. As the cells, tissues, organs, blood and lymph that have been affected by the toxins are cleansed, the body makes adjustments and attempts to return to its initial state of balance. The best test? Try them out for yourself. If you feel that detox patches may be helpful for you, the best way is to simply try them out. See how you feel. Notice any changes. A little more energy? Less tired? Better sleep? Not so nervous or jumpy? Skin clearing? Granted, it takes time for systemic change to happen, but you may start to feel small differences after just a few days of wearing the patches. Most patches contain no medications, chemicals, or harmful substances. So experiment with them: try one on each heel (site of reflex points of lower third of body) one night, then place patches on arches (site of reflex points of main trunk organs) of both feet, and then the balls (site of reflex points of top third of body - neck, throat, head) another night. Or, place multiple patches on each foot if in good health and for more accelerated detoxification support. By the way, if you are undergoing a colon cleanse regime, or liver or kidney flush, wearing detox foot patches may help support your body to release the toxins being expelled. Wear time While the average detox patch cleanse may run 4-6 weeks, each person is unique, and has her/his own set of unique health factors, and levels of toxins in their body. Will a ny detox method or combination eliminate all toxins in the body? Of course not. Our bodies are filtering toxins 24/7 every day of our lives. A detox method helps the body do the work it does best. Patches, cleanses, chelation, diets are no panacea or magic bullet that rids one of toxins forever. But each can help. And with today's onslaught of chemicals, heavy metals, plastics, preservatives, etc. present in our food, air, water, personal products and industrial chemicals - we need all the help we can get! Some people incorporate patches as part of their daily health routine, like brushing teeth or taking a shower; others prefer to use the patches for a set amount of time, then go on a maintenance program. Unique health factors affecting wear time include: -general health condition -history of serious illnesses -toxin exposure -history of smoking, alcohol or drug use -long-term use of medications, chemotherapy -exposure to industrial toxins -work in paint-, refining-, or chemical industries -exposure to fertilizers, pesticides due to living near golf courses or large farming operations -condition of immune system -lymph system disease or disorders Check the guidelines that each company recommends for a standard detox period or discuss with your health professional. Contraindications In general, the patches contraindicate if one is pregnant or lactating; or allergic or sensitive to any patch ingredients. Do not place patches over open membranes, such as eyes; do not place patches over open cuts or wounds. Check with each manufacturer for specific contraindications or with your health practitioner if you have serious health issues or concerns. Detox foot patches are a welcome new addition to the arsenal of detox products available in the U.S. I've tried to offer some basic descriptions and explanations that might help you decide if detox foot patches are right for you. Statements regarding use of detox patches are for educational purposes only, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

The body and the colon are self cleansing. Most cleanses give people diarrhoea. We are not full of toxins to start with.
Anyone interested in detoxifying their body might think about paying a little more attention to their body and less attention to the people trying to get their money. The body already has nature's most effective detoxification system. It's called the liver. The liver changes the chemical structure of foreign compounds so they can be filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, which then excrete them in the urine.

Dr Roger Clements, a chemist at the USC school of pharmacy, said tests have proved that no extra toxins were expelled from the body on detox diets and that suggesting the digestive system needs a break is ludicrous.

Probably nothing really "spectacular" will happen...but that's ok, it still flushes out the system, and will make you look and feel better. It cleanses the skin, too, and my color looks more radiant, because of the skin cleansing.
Anyway, drink lots of pure water, and use the fiber cleanser, and I'm sure that your body will feel alot cleaner, afterward.
Good luck...( and try to stay near bathrooms, as you are supposed to drink lots of water!)

I bought a bootle of detox because I've smoked weed recently, and I feel like they might get me to take a drug test. • ANSWER:
fuggedaboutit. All this cleanse/detox stuff is semi-superstitious nonsense.

If you're constipated try more fiber in the diet and drinking more water. Failing that, try an over the counter laxative.

If you're NOT constipated, then you don't have a 'toxin' problem, at least not one that any of these schemes and patent medicines can handle.

  16. QUESTION:
Is bad to take laxative everyday? How often should you take laxative and colon cleansers?
I've noticed that some detox systems require you to cleanse everyday. Does the same go for you stomach?

    • ANSWER:
Hi, That is a good question. Laxatives & colon cleansers are meant an intervention only. Prolonged repeated use is highly discouraged. allot of people are getting hooked on laxatives & cleansers as it helps them compensate for damage their unhealthy lifestyles are causing.
the fundamentals to health are eat right, sleep right & exercise right. in regards to your colon the most imporatant part would be eating right. Make sure you have an adequate intake of dietary fiber & are eating lots of fruits & vegetables.
please don't use laxatives or colon cleansers more than they are absolutely needed. there are some that can almost seem to work miracles but it is still just a bandage to cover a syptom when we need to fix the root problem, our lifestyles.
if you do need to take a laxative or colon cleanse (and we all do at some point) then I would recomend only an all natural product. anything with chemicals is just dangerous to be putting in your body. That said there are one or two products that I feel safe recomending to my patients. there are some that are 100% natural can be used as a laxative & colon cleanser. a good authoritative site to find reviews for various products & info on colon/digestive health is www.doctorcoloncleanse.com

      - vinegar (cleans out the body)
      - cayenne pepper (opens the blood vessels and thins the blood to allow for faster cleanse)
      - garlic: (kills bacteria)
      - cabbage: (cleans out the intestines due to high fiber content)
      - fresh fruit and veggies (cleans out the intestines due to high fiber content)
      - oatmeal and plenty of other grains (cleans out the intestines due to high fiber content)

  18. QUESTION:
What is the recipe for the lemonade & cayenne pepper detox?
I'm looking for the lemonade, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup detox recipe.

Also, is it okay to consume small amounts of protein to stay sustained? Or just best to stay away from all during this. My concern is that I wake up early for work and want to be able to focus and be alert throughout the whole day. Can you work out on this diet or will you not have enough energy?

    • ANSWER:
PURCHASE INGREDIENTS FOR THE LEMONADE CLEANSING DIET!!

      - Lemons (depending on the time of the year ask friends/family for access to a lemon tree. This will cut costs dramatically. Lemons, however are inexpensive and can be purchased at any grocery chain or discount store) Figure you will need 3-5 lemons per day per individual on the Master Cleanser Diet.

      - Organic Grade B Maple Syrup (Call the store before purchasing!! We went to several different stores before finding it at Trader Joes and there were only 2 left. You will go through this quickly, once again - stock up!)

      - Herbal Tea Laxative, Cayenne Pepper, Uniodized Salt (should be able to purchase at any store, make sure to get caffeine free tea)

      - Purified or Spring Water (if you don't already drink purified water, consider investing in a cheap filter, you can also fill up the gallons for .50 a piece).

Step 2MAKE YOUR LEMONADE CLEANSING DIET SERVINGS FOR THE ENTIRE DAY!!

It is recommended that you drink 6-10 servings per day. If you want more calories, drink more servings, if you want a little less drink less, but do your best to stay within the recommended amount.

The following equals 1 serving of the Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet:

      - 2 tbsp (1 fluid oz) freshly squeezed lemon/lime juice (NOT BOTTLED JUICE)
      - 2 tbsp (1 fluid oz) organic grade b maple syrup
      - 1/10 tsp or more cayenne pepper
      - 1 cup (8 fluid oz) purified or filtered water (NOT fluoridated water)

Get a large pitcher and mix daily serving of Lemonade Cleanser Diet according to your preferred # of servings. Once again, it is recommended 6-10 servings per day.

Step 3DRINK THE LEMONADE CLEANSING DIET THROUGHOUT THE DAY!

Put the master cleansing diet in a thermos/coffee cup/water bottle and carry with you throughout the day. Drink whenever feeling hungry. Make sure to bring a refill for your thermos. You will be amazed how the lemonade cleansing diet completely satisfies your hunger and after the first two days, your cravings as well.

Look through the resource section for Frequently Asked Questions and forums. Consider buying and reading through the book the diet is based on, The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs.

Enjoy your cleansed body and your renewed independence from cravings and food.

  19. QUESTION:
Whats the difference between Acne cleansers?
What's the difference between Benzoyl Peroxide facial cleanser, and Salicylic Acid cleansers?
I used to use 2% Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser.. But it stopped working, so I switched to 10% and it seemed to make my acne worse... So, I switched to salicylic acid cleansers, and, now my face is dry, and the acne is cured.. only a little.
    Whats the difference?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Dinosaur,

Benzoyl peroxide is used to treat mild to moderate acne. It is a harmful chemical solution with numerous side effects.

Topical salicylic acid is used to help clear and prevent pimples and skin blemishes in people who have acne. It's another toxic chemical that causes more harm than good, but is less toxic than Benzoyl. This explains why your acne improved once you switched to Salicylic acid.

The problem with these chemicals is they treat the symptoms, not the underlying issue. Acne is the body's way of signaling a problem with the acid buildup in the body. Your body tries to detox itself by releasing toxins through the skin pores, thus giving you acne.

The best way to clear your acne is to use a free natural remedy followed by a solid clear skin program to maintain your results.

      This will give you:

      - beautiful clear skin
      - a glowing appearance
      - a more youthful, energetic smile

It worked for me and I hope it works for you. Hope this help.

  23. QUESTION:
What are some home remedies to detox the body?
I have been experiencing adbominal bloating and problems with my skin lately. I have taken laxatives and herbal teas and nothing seems to help the bloatness. I want to cleanse my body from the inside out.......and just don't know how to do it!

    • ANSWER:
      Detoxification

      Home Remedies

The body tends to heal itself if given the right support. Fruit, vegetables and herbs are a gentle way to promote healing.

      Herbs used in Detoxification

      Dandelion
Dandelion is held in high regard as a detoxifier. Dandelion stimulates the elimination of toxins from every cell in the body. It is often used in comprehensive treatments for the liver. Dandelion also increases bile production and stimulates its flow to the gallbladder. The polysaccharide insulin found in dandelion is said to have white blood cell and immune-boosting properties.

      Licorice Root
Licorice Root is regarded as an important herb for treating kidney ailments and is also recommended for the liver and respiratory tract. Licorice Root's antioxidant, antiviral, and antibody-stimulating properties make it a liver protectant and detoxifier.

      Cascara Sagrada
Cascara Sagrada supports healthy bowel function by acting as a mild laxative. This herb can also be helpful in the treatment of gallstones and liver ailments. It also increases secretions of the stomach, liver and pancreas and is a potent cleansing herb.

      Black Walnut Hulls
Black Walnut Hulls are known to help remove parasites from the intestinal tract and facilitate the removal of toxic buildup and fatty materials.

      Milk Thistle
Milk thistle is best known as a liver tonic. The active ingredient is silymarin, which is reputed to repair liver damage due to alcohol, drugs (over-the-counter, prescription, and illicit), hepatitis, and exposure to toxins. In Germany, physicians are so impressed with the liver-protecting effects of milk thistle that they routinely prescribe this herb to patients with liver disorders. Milk thistle also strengthens and protects the liver in otherwise healthy people.

Fruit and vegetable juices assist in detoxification.
Fruit and vegetable juices are the cleansers, energizers, builders, and regenerators of the human system. A combination of either fresh, raw fruit or vegetable juices will supply all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals, protein and fats critical to increased vitality! By adding live juices to one's diet as a daily routine, many have experienced a rejuvenating effect and healing of various illnesses such as cancer, leukemia, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, skin infections, liver disorders, alcoholism and smoking. Supplying the body with easily-absorbed nutrients, while the body is cleansing itself in the fasting state, avoids the dangers of total abstinence associated with water fasting. Be confident that this method is both safe and beneficial.

Grapes: There are between 40 and 50 different varieties of grapes that come in a rainbow of greens, whites, reds and purples. Grapes fill the mouth with an explosion of delicious flavors. Grapes are an excellent source of potassium, which encourage an alkaline blood balance and also stimulate the kidneys and regulate heartbeat. The restorative power of grapes is phenomenal, cleansing the liver and removing the uric acid from the body. In France, many people go on a grape fast during harvest time. Studies have shown a lower incidence of cancer in the areas of France where this grape fast is practiced yearly.

Asparagus: Available in early spring. It can be expensive due to the difficulty in cultivating. Its claim to fame is the amino acid aspargagine that is destroyed by cooking. Aspargagine is a strong diuretic, stimulating the kidneys. Asparagus is a great blood cleanser and excellent for healthy bowel maintenance.

Parsley: Ancient civilizations have used parsley in medications and in poultices on wounds, boils, cysts and to draw the pus out of an infected cut. Parsley is one of the highest sources of life-giving chlorophyll, which acts like iron to oxidize the blood. Chlorophyll will help neutralize the strong odor of garlic, and is used in chewing gum to sweeten breath. It is a cleanser of the kidneys, liver, and urinary tract. Parsley is effective for upset stomachs by stimulating digestive enzymes. Excellent for the colon by encouraging the peristaltic wave in the intestines.

Spinach: Never cook spinach. Oxalic acid is destroyed when heat transforms it into oxalic acid crystals that are harmful to the kidneys. It also binds to iron, making it unabsorbable.

      Sweet Potatoes
Besides being a yummy source of beta-carotene, sweet potatoes and yams have an unusual health side effect: they can remove heavy metals from the body. In fact, doctors in the Soviet Union have prescribed a diet that's heavy on the spuds for factory workers continually exposed to toxic chemicals.

Sweet potatoes contain something called "phytochelatins". This helps them bind to harmful substances like copper, cadmium, mercury and lead which most of us are exposed to on a regular basis from air pollution. The phytochelatins help pass these toxins out of the body."

      Cranberry Juice
A powerful healing tonic filled with quinine, which changes to hippuric acid in the liver. Hippuric acid is able to assist in the removal of purines, uric acid, urea and toxic build-up in the prostate gland, testicles, kidneys and bladder.

  24. QUESTION:
What is the best most effective colon cleanse weight loss supplement ?
I always hear of new colon cleansers everywhere I turn, and I want to know where I a could order a free smaple of a colon cleanser online without wasting my time. Also, how are you supposed to use colon cleanser as a weight loss supplement?

    • ANSWER:
You will definitely lose weight. But it is only the weight of undigested food and waste, not any stored body fat. And it will just be replaced.
Gastroenterologists repeatedly state this "mucoid plague" promoted by non medical practitioners does not exist. They have yet to find any during a colonoscopy.
The best way to cleanse and detox is to stop eating and drinking processed and refined foods.
Get hold of a liver. Oh, you have one? Great.
Now just stand there and let it detoxify your body. Partner it with some kidneys and you've got the most efficient body cleanse and detox system known to man.
There is no build up of bad plaque, toxins, or sludge in a normal, reasonably healthy system.
If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their small intestines couldn't absorb nutrients. The majority of the water from food and what we drink is reabsorbed through the colon, if our colons were clogged we would all be walking around looking like sponges right?
Detoxing is ridding the system - liver, kidneys, and intestines of toxins both internal and environmental. Our liver and kidneys aren't clogged with toxins. Otherwise we would be dead. The liver does in fact get layered with fat if we become overweight.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, kidneys, urine, and feces.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal processed and refined foods. They are loaded with additives, concentrates, and preservatives mostly in added sugars and salts.
Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, lean meat cuts, fresh fish, beans, peas, brown rice, raw nuts, and barley keep a system as healthy and as clean as it can be.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body.
A healthy high fiber diet of whole fresh foods works every time. Increases the speed and efficiency of the digestive system and helps the body rid itself of both normal internal and environmental toxins.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
Search "gut flora" to learn about the beneficial bacteria we need in our colon.
We have more beneficial bacteria in our digestive systems than all the cells in our bodies!
The digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system health.
Spend your money in the produce department to speed your cleanse.
      Good luck and good health.

  25. QUESTION:
What are some good "at home" laxatives and cleansers?
I'm looking to kind of "detox" my body. Do you know of any natural remedies or at home ideas that work? Over the counter is fine, but I'd prefer it to be fairly simple and not too expensive.

    • ANSWER:
Castor oil, senna tea, flax seed. And lots of water. Inexpensive and effective.

  26. QUESTION:
How well do probiotics and colon cleansers work?
Are they really worth it?? I would like to totally detox myself...but Im not sure about some of these newer products. Any help? Thanks a lot!!!

    • ANSWER:
I always thought colon cleansers were stupid. Probiotics are worth the money though, to prevent/cure diarrhea, yeast infections and minimize colds, and to keep your body stocked up on "friendly" bacteria.

  27. QUESTION:
Are colon cleansers good for my body? Do they help lose weight?
I've heard that you should purge your body on occasion. Personally, I feel that it makes sense, with all the junk people eat sometimes.

    • ANSWER:
I've done a detox cleanse a couple times in the last year or so. You have to stay faithful to a detox regiment. Just getting a colon cleanse will help you get rid of 3 or 4 pounds of impacted "crap" (literally). But a true detox takes 7 to 10 days.

Check out this regiment its called the "Lemonade Diet". I did the whole 10 days once and lost about 14 pounds.

  28. QUESTION:
How do you detox your body?
I am not wanting to detox because of drugs. I am wanting to do it to be healthier!

    • ANSWER:
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

Those are all general detoxification products. Fiber will help to clean out your colon better as well, not to mention all the hundreds of "colon cleansing" products you're liable to get answers about.... but those are the simplest general cleansers available.

  29. QUESTION:
Do body cleansers really work for beating a drug test?
I see advertisements everywhere for these products that promise to help you beat a drug test. Most people I know would be too scared to actually ever rely on one without knowing it would actually work for a daily marijuana user. Does anyone know for sure if these things really work? Assume that you'd have to be confident enough to bet your job on it.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
No. The only way to truly beat a drug test is to abstain for at least 30 days for marijuana. THC is stored in your fat cells, not in any place that any detox or cleansing program would affect... if there was a cleanse that would affect fat cells, everyone would lose a LOT of weight on them and it would be the #1 diet product, but no such thing exists.
If you (or your boss) think you'll be drug tested, stop smoking it. Some say that exercise and drinking water help... exercise can help you lose stored up fats so it might help (the more exercise, the better, so you'd have to stick with it), but it's not an automatic thing and it still takes time for that as well. Good luck and I hope I helped!

  30. QUESTION:
What are the best products to use of your skin and hair?
    - Shampoo and conditioner that is organic and helps keep the hair shinny and strong.
    - Organic Body wash that exfoliates and a body wash that helps keep skin healthy.
    - A organic and the best face wash for dry skin.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Miessence certified organic products are the top of the line when it comes to organics. They contain 100% beneficial ingredients and 0% toxic chemicals and are certified so you can be sure all the ingredients really are organic and safe.

      - I love the Lemon Myrtle Shampoo & Shine Herbal Conditioner. My hair feels so much healthier now that I've been using it, and shiner too! If you're using regular shampoo now (not organic), then in order for the shampoo to lather, you will need to detox your hair from all the silicone that is essentially like plastic wrapped around each strand (leftover from your old products). Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar and baking soda works great to detox. Then use the shampoo and it will be able to penetrate into your hair and make it look and feel nice and healthy.

      - The Sunflower Body Wash is amazing- it smells invigorating and feels refreshing! I, personally use it on an exfoliating loofa. (Miessence does sell an exfoliant, primarily for the face, but can be used on body I'm sure).

      - I use the Rejuvenating Skin Care Essentials Pack for my face- it is for dry or mature skin, and includes: Cleanser, Conditioner, and Moisturizer. I used to have dry, flaky skin, while using Clinique, but now I don't have any flakiness and my skin feels so hydrated and soft.

I use all of these and definitely recommend them!

  31. QUESTION:

  32. QUESTION:
What are some good anti-acne fruits/vegitables and body wash products?
I've got some gross bacne, and it's starting to bug me. What are some good anti-acne fruits/vegitables and body wash products that can get rid of it? Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
There's a lot more to acne than eating more fruit and veges and putting something on your face will cure.
Acne is basically a liver overload problem. Doctors generally speaking don't know about this and will give you meds which will make the underlying problem worse.
Your best bet is to go and see a naturopath and listen to what they have to say. If they tell you you need liver support and a liver cleansing program then you're on the money. If not, try another one.

As well as that, you need to clean your face IN A WAY WHICH DOESN'T DRY OUT THE OILS IN YOUR SKIN. I know it sounds wrong, you think that oil is the cause of acne, but it's not. When it mixes with dirt and gets stuck in the pores it does form plugs, but oil itself is the way to dissolve the plugs and clean the pores out. Using soap and strong cleansers, especially ones with alcohol, will make it worse. It'll look like it's working at first but it'll quickly go back to worse than it was before.
Organic castor oil mixed with organic sunflower seed oil is an excellent cleanser. Read all about it here.

      http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/

Finally, you need to stop exposing yourself to chemicals which will add to your liver detox overload. If you're a teenager going thru puberty, a big factor in this is the hormones your body is making. These have to be broken down and eliminated from your body. You can’t do much about that but it makes it doubly important to address the other sources of chemical overload – from junk food and drinks, smoking, drugs, alcohol, your environment, personal products etc.
Dairy products are also apparently a problem for acne, and gluten in flour is another problem food. Cut them out completely.

If you suffer from stress, same thing - major load of hormone breakdown products for your liver to deal with. Cut out all alcohol and anything else which damages your liver. That includes paracetamol (Panadol). Clean up your diet, avoid inhaling chemicals and putting them on your skin. Check the labels on your bath products and laundry detergent. They all end up inside your body and add to the liver overload.

Exercise regularly and intensively - every day if you can. That's a great way to help get toxins out of your body,, sweating and puffing and making your heart race.
Cut out all sugar and especially sugar substitutes from your diet. Cut out soft drinks. Go on a low-carb diet – ask your naturopath how to do that.

Get a good dose of sunlight as often as you can, in the middle of the day. Just 10 minutes a day at first. All over your body not just your face. The vitamin D which it produces in your body will help greatly.

Do all that and you should get rid of it in 90% of cases. If not you may have some unusual cause which needs further investigation. But don’t try to save money by treating it yourself. Go and get professional help, from a wholistic practitioner. Don’t use pharmaceutical drugs except as a last resort, they are usually not the answer and cause a lot of damage in many patients
      .
I have a 13yo son who had bad acne and this is how he cured it, and I’ve treated quite a few cases of acne in teens and adults as a former nutrition therapist.

  33. QUESTION:
How do you detox your body?
I'm looking to loose weight. I just want to get all of the toxins out of my body. I was thinking something along the lines of 3 days.

    • ANSWER:
Hi, When your energy levels are very low, your body aches and your mind is drained, it is time to detox your body. Detoxification mostly involves blood cleansing by way of eliminating impurities from the blood in the liver, through kidneys, lungs, intestines, lymph and skin.
      How to detox your body:
First, you must decrease toxins in your body. You need to reduce cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, eating foods with refined sugars and saturated fats. Next, you should reduce the use of personal health care products such as toothpaste, shampoos, deodorants and cleansers as well as chemically-based household cleaners.
There are lots of ways to detox your body and you should select those that suit your lifestyle and preference.
      - Juice fasting involves drinking only fresh fruits and vegetables such as carrot, spinach, celery, cabbage, apple, pineapple and cranberry (no citrus fruits). Duration of juice fasting is typically one to three days.
      - Water fasting means that only water is consumed. This way your digestive tract and organs rest completely and toxin build-ups are eliminated.
      - Change your diet. Include in your daily diet whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables instead of packaged and fast foods that are rich in fats and sugar.
      - Use sauna as a regular part of detox. It is a fantastic way of removing chemical buildups in fat cells.
      - Skin brushing removes old skin cells, stimulates the lymph system and draws out toxins through the skin. You should use a dry skin brush made of soft vegetable bristles. Before you take a shower, lightly brush your feet in circular motion towards the chest area for 2 minutes.
These are just a few cleansing methods that will improve your health. It is vital to know the different ways on how to detox your body before you start with the different programs.
However, there is a much faster and simpler way to detox your body. You can achieve the detoxification while sleeping or working. If you want to learn more about the best method of achieving a cleaner body go here http://www.weightlossimproves.com/

  34. QUESTION:
How does one detoxify the body without drinking things they're allergic to (such as lemon)?
Does the body have to be detoxed with something it can't stand, or will it get sick. What do you do after you detoxed it so you don't get sick; how do you maintain your chemical balance (electrolytes and potassium, for example) after a body purge. I never did one, and want to know how, without hearing "Just drink cinnamon, lemon, ginger, and maple syrup."

    • ANSWER:
There are quite a number of ingredients you can use to detox your system. The formulation you've mentioned is actually one of the fad diets... someone just tossed a few cleansers in with maple syrup (to keep your blood sugar up) so you can starve yourself without getting too dizzy or weak too quickly. It's not generally considered healthy or a good idea to starve yourself as a diet, though. That specific plan has no inclusion of basic nutrients (including the electrolytes), so your body will leech them from elsewhere when they are needed... that's one big reason it's so bad for you.

That being said, if you take something you're allergic to, that won't really help the same way it's intended, so you shouldn't take it. If you want to detoxify your system to get some of the excess junk out of your system (from processed foods, drugs, chemicals, and whatever else builds up in your body over time), there are several natural products you can take. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

Yes, in general, your body keeps itself in a balance, but oftentimes we overwhelm it with things it can't handle... that's when it needs some help from cleansers. If nothing else, most people don't have enough fiber in their diet, so their body can't eliminate everything it needs to on a regular basis. Good luck!

  35. QUESTION:
Should a 16 year old go on the Lemonade Master Cleanser Diet?
It would be for about 4 days, rather than the 14 days suggested. The diet detoxifies the body and also helps to lose weight fast. The diet consists of drinking only lemonade (water, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and grade B maple syrup) for those four days, nothing else, except water and tea.

    • ANSWER:
We are not 'dirty' inside, nor are we full of toxins.
NUTRITION experts have warned about the potential dangers of detox diets. We already have nature's most effective detoxification system. It's called the liver. The liver changes the chemical structure of foreign compounds so they can be filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, which then excrete them in the urine.
“Your body does a perfectly good job of getting rid of toxins on its own,” says Dr. Nasir Moloo, a gastroenterologist with Capitol Gastroenterology Consultants Medical Group in Sacramento, Calif. “There’s no evidence that these types of diets are necessary or helpful.”

      Re lemonade diet...
      Downsides:
Liquid bowel movements are a messy side effect. Going without food, and with only a minimal amount of nutrients (given the drink’s ingredients) can add unnecessary stress on the body.

  36. QUESTION:
What detox kit would you guys recommend?
I've been wanting to detox, but I am not sure what's best.
There is this one called the Acai Berry 14-day Cleanse which is loaded with anti oxidants. Would that be safe? What about a 48 hr. cleanser?
    Hmmm...

Anyone know of a good website or something?

    • ANSWER:
Detoxification should ideally begin in the mind. The first step towards full body todex should be your decision to start fresh and with a clean slate.

Generic diets for detoxification are good, but may not stimulate the liver, lungs or the kidneys as much as one would like. Over time, by introducing supplements, herbs and other substances (which are usually organ specific) that will amplify your body's ability to process out the excessive level of toxins, a full body detox can restore systemic balance. Of course, herbs are foods too and provide one with vitamins, minerals and enzymes for excellent nutrition. Herbs are powerful, because they may be combined together to fortify those herbs that aid specific organs.

For people suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or chemical dependency, detox can play a major role in helping you bring yourself back to a natural state of balance and harmony.

Dandelion and Fennel are just two herbs that have been used throughout history to cleanse and aid body detoxification, rejuvenate liver functioning, and kick-start the body back to life! Pelargonium reniforme is another ingredient that also works on promoting optimal liver functioning and supporting the body's natural ability to break down and eliminate fat for a natural detoxification.

You may get details on these remedies over here http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/d/detoxification.htm

  37. QUESTION:
How long should you wait between cleansers?
Over a month ago I did the Jillian Michaels Detox and Cleanse and it didnt work at all. I actually gained weight. Well I want to try the QuickTrim 48 hour cleanser but I dont know if I should wait awhile since I did the other one over a month ago. Is it okay to do the QuickTrim cleanser?

    • ANSWER:
tey are best avoided and you have found out they don't work.
The body and the colon are self cleansing.
Dr Roger Clements, a chemist at the USC school of pharmacy, said tests have proved that no extra toxins were expelled from the body on detox diets and that suggesting the digestive system needs a break is ludicrous.

While retailers celebrate the arrival of the “detox season”, health specialists say that people’s drive to purge their bodies of toxins can, in fact, be harmful.

Catherine Collins, chief dietician at St George’s Hospital in southwest London, said she saw dozens of patients suffering side-effects ranging from bowel problems to potassium depletion. “There is a fixation with the notion that we can detoxify the body through what we eat and drink, but the whole idea has no scientific basis,” said Dr Collins.

  38. QUESTION:
Which detox is best to clean my system for a drug test?
Moderate smoker,I have a drug test in three days but I haven't smoked in a week, which is the best cleanser for my situation?

    • ANSWER:
Save your money. Detox drinks are a waste of money.

THC (the active ingredient in weed) is stored in your body fat and takes about 30 DAYS to leave completely.

  39. QUESTION:
Can you still take your vitamins while on the Master Cleanse?
I want to detox my body to help me with quitting smoking and I take vitamins daily. Also, I can't take time off from work to do this but I want to get healthy. My job is very physical, I work in a bakery doing prep work and have to lift up to 40lbs.
I smoke cigs and eat too much candy :(
    Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
While on the master cleanse, you should drop all supplements and medications if at all possible. Medications are processed by the liver and so are any foreign substances that could potentially be in your supplements. I guess you need to decide in your case if you really can't do without a particular supplement.

My job isn't very physical, but I did feel more energetic while on the cleanse. I actually felt so good I continued for 21 days instead of 10. I have heard others who do have physical jobs say they did fine. But I think it is a personal matter. Definitely bring your jug of lemonade with you wherever you go so you don't feel hungry.

The first three days are the hardest, and after that it gets easier. You can experience mild cleansing symptoms such as a headache as toxins are released from the body. Your body has a lot more energy to put toward cleansing since you are not eating solid food, so just expect that and see it as a good sign.

I think it is great you are doing the master cleanse. For me, the master cleanse was life changing in terms of weight loss that lasted and better eating habits, better discipline even.

Be sure you follow Stanley Burrough's original plan in his book, The Master Cleanser.

      Hope you get amazing results.

  41. QUESTION:
What results to naturally bad body odour?
I haver a friend who cant finish three hours after bathing when she is still fresh. She smells and one wonders what is really happening within her body no matter how much she sprays herself with deodorant. Recently she wrote to her sister a letter saying she is tired with her status and she is asking why God created her different form her siblings. This has also made her stop attending school because her school mates have nicknamed her names and they also dont want to be near her. She is also saying that it is better if she dies than keep on being stressed with her status. So her sisters asked me to advice her but I have not found the words to describe her body status. Please help me with this question. Is this really normal or it is a disease. Please I welcome answers so that I can also understand better.

    • ANSWER:
If it's been happening for more than a few days, it's most likely that her body is expelling toxins in whatever way it can.

What I would suggest is drinking water to help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

Any of those can help to purge the toxins from her body. If that doesn't work (or even while she's doing it), it might be a good idea to go to a doctor to make sure it's not some medical condition that's causing the increased odor.

  43. QUESTION:
How can I detox my body naturally?
What are the things I should be eating and/or doing to cleanse my body of toxins and waste naturally?

    • ANSWER:
If you have normally functioning organs (liver, kidneys, bowels, skin), they will do the job for you. Eat a wholesome diet. Stay healthy. That's natural. Don't do any fad regimens or colon cleansers, which could be potentially dangerous.

  44. QUESTION:
What is the easiest way to detox your body
is there a quick and easy way for me to detox my body.

    • ANSWER:
First, lighten up your toxin load. Eliminate alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars and saturated fats, all of which act as toxins in the body and are obstacles to your healing process. Also, minimize use of chemical-based household cleaners and personal health care products (cleansers, shampoos, deodorants and toothpastes), and substitute natural alternatives.

Another deterrent to good health is stress, which triggers your body to release stress hormones into your system. While these hormones can provide the "adrenaline rush" to win a race or meet a deadline, in large amounts they create toxins and slow down detoxification enzymes in the liver. So it's a good idea to detox stressful life situations along with detoxifying your body. Yoga and meditation are simple and effective ways to relieve stress by resetting your physical and mental reactions to the inevitable stress life will bring.

      Also
      1. Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods.

      2. Cleanse and protect the liver by taking herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle, and drinking green tea.

      3. Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.

      4. Drink at least 2 quarts of water daily.

      5. Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.

      6. Transform stress by emphasizing positive emotions.

      7. Practice hydrotherapy by taking a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.

      8. Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration.

      9. Dry-brush your skin or try detoxifying patches or detox foot spas / foot baths to remove toxins through your pores. Special brushes are available at natural products stores.

      10. What is the most important way to detoxify? "Exercise," says Bennett. "Yoga or jump-roping are good. One hour every day." Also try qigong, a martial-arts based exercise system that includes exercises specifically for detoxifying or cleansing, as well as many other exercises with specific health benefits.

what is a good body cleanser from GNC for weight Loss preparation?
I am trying to get back to my pre baby body so I was told to do a body cleanser from GNC but Im not sure which one... Please let me know ASAP

    • ANSWER:
You really should just stay away from GNC stores. They are in the junk (supplement) business and most of what they sell doesn't work. If you don't believe that, go here ---> http://search.usa.gov/search?sc=1&query=gnc+warning&locale=en&m=false and see some of the many warning the FDA and FTC has issued for GNC's bogus supplement products.

Also, cleansers don't work. Period. The idea you can lose fat with cleansing is a myth. Here's that story.

The problem with the internet is it is difficult to know what websites to trust. Especially in diet and fitness where there is no good proof and the US federal law tolerates all sorts of scams (eg: DHSEA1998), it is easy to be misled, scammed, and bilked. The way search engines work is to show you the most popular websites at the top and the least popular at the bottom...often buried in an mess of thousands of hits. And, popular does not mean good or true. It often means fad or trendy or mediocre or memetic or myth.

Detox diets and cleanses are don't work. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don't work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

      Check out these reliable references.

"Detox diets are a waste of time and money, say scientists"
      http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article784402.ece

"The human body can defend itself very
well against most environmental insults and the effects of occasional indulgence. If you’re generally healthy, stick to giving your body what it needs to maintain its own detox system— a healthful diet, adequate fluid intake, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and all recommended medical check-ups. Don’t waste your money...follow a healthy, balanced lifestyle instead."
      Ref: http://www.lee-county.com/gov/dept/HumanResources/Wellness_Newsletters/Aug%2008.pdf

The way to detox is to stop ingesting toxins and let your body cleanse itself naturally. And cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat. If fat is your problem, you're eventually going to realize that nothing works except a proper diet for life or surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn’t changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

With the help of the web and it's instant global communication, it only took about a week for the Oprah/Oz acai myth to span the globe. So, one thing is certain. If there was an easy way to detox or lose fat through cleansing, the whole world would know about it very quickly. Why hasn't that happened? Think about it.

Your fat issues are ultimately going to come down to making a commitment to eat a proper diet. Here's how.

The best diet for losing fat is the same as the best diet for building muscle which is the same as the best diet for maintaining health and body weight. In other words, everyone should be eating essentailly the same macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fiber barring special health or medical considerations because we all have essentially the same physiognomy. Here is the diet approved by the US National Institute of Health...the people your doctor listens to.

Eat varied, wholesome, and high quality foods such that your daily caloric intake is about equal to your daily caloric burn while keeping your macronutrient ratios at about 55/25/20 (%calories from carbs/fats/protein). Only slight changes should be made in the macronutrient ratios to accommodate the extreme demands of special activities such as athletics or inactivity due to illness.

Note: Here are the details in case you're interested. ---> http://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2010.asp
      and here ---> http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/nutrition.html

You get to make the food choices based on culture, available foods, personal preferences, your resources, etc. However, the words "varied", "wholesome", and "high quality" are important. And, you should consume your food in 4-6 daily meals with healthy snacks between such that you're nourishing yourself every two hours when awake.

If you want to burn body fat, simply decrease portion sizes of your food such that your daily intake is 500 calories less than your daily burn rate. That should result in a loss rate of one pound per week.

      Good luck and good health!!

  48. QUESTION:
How long does it take Triple Leaf Herbal Detox Tea to get THC out of your system?
Someone told me they usually take it a week before their drug test, but does it take a full week to completely cleanse you? And does drinking water with it help?
Also, will you be completely rid of the THC? or only just for a little bit like some cleansers...

    • ANSWER:
Samantha, save you money. So called detoxers show up as masking agents which is an automatic fail. Time is the only thing that will get the thc out of your system and here is why.

Marijuana has a half-life in your system. How long it takes to leave your system depends on how much you smoke. But the time maxes out at around 45 days. One smoking session for someone with a clean system takes about 3-4 days to be clean. Smoke 2 days later and then have to wait about a week, and so on. The time it will take roughly doubles every time you smoke until it maxes at about 45 days to be clean. So if you are maxed out and you wait about 2 weeks and then smoke again, you're basically back to 45 days.
Marijuana can be detected in urine for nearly a week after smoking. Blood tests can be more accurate, and it might take a month to be totally clear. Hair tests show every drug ever taken when that hair was growing - this is why you see so many drug addicts with shaved heads or buzz cuts, by the way. Also by the way: taking laxatives and drinking wacky chemicals won't "cheat" a drug test. It will just make you go to the bathroom! These drug tests are designed by experts who anticipate what the drug user might do.

Be very careful of "remedies" for getting around drug tests. They flat out do not work and could do damage to your body.

  49. QUESTION:
Who on here is an experienced Master Cleanser?
I am not referring to anything else but the Master Cleanse that was developed by Stanley Burroughs. I am searching for other experienced and devoted Master Cleansers. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Our good friend Gary Y is partially correct, and partially incorrect. There is a lot of junk science nowadays being used as solid foundation to validate many of the "black holes" in holistic medicine. And much of what has been attributed to normal body physiology is rampant speculation which benefit only a few and harm the rest.

But the world of metabolic toxins is not exclusive of the field of toxicology, as we know it from universities. Toxins produced by the body as a normal result of our daily wear-out, are real and if allowed to accumulate unduly may result in a set of processes which could jeopardize our biology.

Of course, it should be understood that regular cell detoxification is something our body does of and by itself unassisted. However, when our false lifestyle and poor dietary habits enervate those organs and systems in charge of keeping our metabolism in tune and in shape, toxins tend to build up gradually to the point that, in time and if unchecked, will disrupt those organs and systems' delicate balance.

I am trying to put in simple terms what others have taken the time to elaborate extensively in biomedical books and magazines. But the reason why many serious and honest truth-seekers, like our friend Gary, end up rejecting the whole idea is because the way many otherwise sound physicians have approached the issue--so biased and business-oriented--is disheartening to say the least.

Our whole system is constantly striving to keep a balance between cellular repair mechanisms and detox ones. As we age this system is badly upset, and the result is a weakened biological adaptation process that "suffocates" tissues and organs to the point of rendering them almost inoperable. And then we would have to go forward dissecting the biology of chronic diseases, which in part are triggered by the body's already hindered ability to process, convert, and get rid of toxins successfully at the right rate.

Enervation gives way to toxins build up, cellular irritation, inflammation, etc. It all goes in sequence. And no, I didn't learn this firsthand from natural medicine textbooks. It was part of my formal training in my specialty.

But going on the same track as Gary, I would discourage anyone trying to assist his/her own body in its normal detox process by buying unproven "magic formulas" that aim at nothing, and that confuse those searching for honest answers when it comes to health and healthy living.

There are many physicians who have done fine research on this field, whose publications, though many times ignored, have contributed to a better understanding of the whole issue.

In the other hand, there is not such a thing as a Master Cleanser. If your goal is to "cleanse" your system in a general way--assuming you're not afflicted by none of the many chronic diseases so common today--then your safest route would be to fast on juices from fruits or vegetables rich in sulfur, or magnesium, or both, for no more than 36 hours, which will help your body in many ways. Besides, you need to understand that when it comes to cleansing organs or tissues, such as the blood itself, you have to bring into the equation the liver, the lymphatic system, the rest of the emunctories (kidneys, colon, skin. etc.)--and not only the colon, as many Master Cleansers emphasize.

Beware of those books written using many semi-medical terminology and which final goal is to sell you something. They are all biased, and exploit, in most cases, concepts and conclusions that medical nor biological sciences have validated in no way.

For more information on environmental toxins, health, energy, and the body's handling of them all, I am referring you to this highly biologically sound textbook: "Physiological Ecology: How Animals Process Energy, Nutrients, and Toxins," by William H. Karasov and Carlos Martinez del Rio.

  50. QUESTION:
what are the best colon cleansers to help lose 10-15 pounds?
I have been looking up information on colon cleansers, but I am not sure if they work. Has anyone ever tried a colon cleanse that helped you lose 10-15 pounds?

    • ANSWER:
Your colon stays clean with a healthy high fiber diet. It doesn't need cleansing.
As for the "bad build up" promoted by homeopathic practitioners medically licensed gastroenterologists repeatedly state they rarely come across patients with any type of residue along the intestinal walls. The ones they do find are suffering from a specific disease or other severe symptom causing the digestive system to function improperly.
The best way to clean your system is to stop putting toxins in. The largest source is our modern diet of processed and refined foods loaded with preservatives, additives, and concentrates. These throw off the normal functions of the entire body.
The best way to "cleanse and detox" is to reduce transit time. The amount of time it takes for food to exit the body. The average adult has a transit time of 50-60 hours. So something they ate for breakfast two days ago is still in their system. Yuck!
This leads to a condition called auto toxicity where the digestive system is working slow enough for toxins to be reabsorbed through the large intestine.
A high fiber diet can cut transit time to 24-30 hours. Search high fiber foods and focus on eating lots of those.

  3. QUESTION:
Anyone have a good organic detox diet?
    Hello everyone.
I'm looking for a good, easy to follow organic detox diet that could be used long term and not just as a quick 10 day diet that you only loose water weight. I'd love to lose weight and be able to keep it off with an organic diet.
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Your desire to sustain a great detox diet is truly awesome! Most people do want a quick fix and be done with it! But they are missing out on the magnificent benefits of going through life with much vitality and healthiness. Kudos to you!!

As I state to all of my clients, a true detox diet is one that will alkalize the body. Dis-ease, mental and emotional issues, fatigue, restless sleep, malnourishment, and even those small aches and pains we feel on a daily basis can not thrive when the body is in an alkaline state. Most detox diets, products and programs available to us don't offer this alkalizing effect and it's best that you aim for this type of diet that will. As your body becomes healthy, weight will be shed if you need to lose, AND, even if you are underweight, healthy weight will be gained! - It's all about balancing the systems and your body will correct what needs to be adjusted.

To understand how to do proper alkalizing detox diet and its concept, this site will go into more detail of what it entails - http://www.healingdetoxdiet.com/

      Happy detoxing!

  4. QUESTION:
What is the best and most natural method for a detox?
I am doing some research on detox and various ways of going about it. I am looking for natural, organic methods of detox. My questions are, have you detoxed before? How long is the process? What does it do exactly? What are the outcomes? Do you think it's healthy and how often should it be done?

    • ANSWER:
A herb called milkthistle is a natural way to clean out toxins from your liver, etc & it's a gentle way to do it. I used a product called Legalon I think, which was basically milkthistle in tablet form. I guess maybe doing this once or twice a year until the box or bottle is finished.

I've also tried the drastic product called Colozone. It's very high in magnesium & you take it every night for 7 days & it flushes out your system just like a colonic. It's pretty drastic though, like every morning you have to run to the toilet because it all comes out like liquid diarrhea! It sure did work for cleaning out your system (you should only do this once per year) but it was quite an experience.

Also psyillium husks are good for intestinal cleansing. It's a powder you put in orange juice & drink everyday, it's basically a gentle fibre & very good for your system, particularly if you tend to not have muesli or anything like that for breakfast. It basically just keeps you having a regular daily bowel movement. It's also very inexpensive & you can get it at your health store. Doctors often recommend it for people who don't consume enough fibre in their diet & maybe get constipated sometimes or aren't having a bowel movement every day.

A product called HMD heavy metal detox is the best on the market for using if you think you are overloaded with chemicals from things like hair dye you've been using or maybe you've been doing something around chemicals like painting your house or something. It's quite expensive though & not worth it unless you think you're sensitive to chemicals. Also anti perspirants are bad re the chemicals they release into your body (like aluminium cholorhydrate) & you should only use ones with natural ingredients (although it can be a search to find one that actually stops the smell of sweat - I've only managed to find one - it's called Spring Fresh deoderant by Natures Gate in California). Try googling it to buy online if it's not available locally.

How do I know all this? Trial & error & my naturopath has recommended all this to me & she knows all the good brands (as some are bad quality). So there you go, I've spend a few hundred dollars at my naturopath to find all this out & now you have the same info for free!

  5. QUESTION:
What is a good detox for cleaning your system?
Just wondering what types of detox can be recommended for cleaning out your body of toxins. A detox that prepares you for a new diet or even weight loss?

    • ANSWER:
i recommend certain types of organic teas without any sugar. there are teas for fasting and detox which do the trick. They usually contain dandelion and dont taste the best.

  6. QUESTION:
How can a do a detox diet at home by myself?
Anyone who had done a detox diet, tell me about it. Did you notice changes?

    • ANSWER:
if you eliminate all processed foods and simply eat fresh, preferably organic, fruits, veggies, and meat/eggs then your body will restore to its default settings(so to speak) and you will start cleansing.

deeper cleansing involves abstaining from solid food and drinking only fresh organic juice(you would need your own juicer for this). remember: 1 glass of fruit for every 2 glasses of veggie juice.

the deepest would be fasting from all calories. you would eat nothing and drink only water. 1 cup of purified for every 3 cups of distilled.

if you cleanse in this order i would do the natural food diet for 3-4 weeks. then juice cleanse for 3-4 days. return to your natural food diet for another 6 weeks. then water fast for 3-4 days.

if you do this you will feel awesome, lose weight, and look the best you ever have.

if you're serious you can email me with any questions and i will try to help you out

  7. QUESTION:
Does fasting for a day really help detox your body?
I was on alot of meds for an illness for a long time. I'd like to cleanse my body of chemicals. I've changed my diet to organic food & purchased a Detox tea. Would a day of fasting help?

    • ANSWER:
I went on a 10 day fast once where I just drank milk. I was experimenting, and chose milk because it still has some protein and calcium, and is not all sugar like fruit juice. Because I did not want to starve myself, I figured I would allow my self to drink as much milk as I wanted, and supplement it with a multi-vitamin.
It was difficult, but I never felt hungry, or tired for lack of food. I exorcised some, but nothing special. After the 10 days of strict fasting, my metabolism reset, I had much more energy, felt far less junk food cravings... before the fast I drank a lot of coffee, and had aquired a sort of immunity to the effects of caffine... but that was reset too. (Not sure why, but it was nice) So in the end... after a little exocise in will power, I felt much healthier... and lost some weight in the process.

  9. QUESTION:
Can the human body naturally detox mercury its exposed to?
How does the body get rid of mercury from fish, vaccinations, and amalgams naturally? Is a detox protocal necessary can it do this naturally? Is the toxin stored in the body for years?

    • ANSWER:
      Depends on the form.

Methylmercury in fish is removed excruciatingly slowly, and there's no way to remove it faster. Fortunately it you'd have to be eating a lot of fish to expose an adult to enough to have any real effects. There's no 'protocol' for removing this any faster that I'm aware of, because it's bound in a small organic molecule.

Amalgam basically doesn't expose the body to any mercury.

Vaccinations which contain mercury have it bound in a form called thiomersal which is metabolized into ethyl mercury - a basically harmless incredibly stable compound that is removed from the body in about eighteen days.

There's a LOT of paranoid BS out there about mercury - don't get taken in by it. Unless you're living somewhere like Clear Lake in California and eating the fish there, you've got absolutely nothing to worry about. The symptoms of mercury poisoning are incredibly obvious. There are quite a few sleezy or crazy practitioners of alternative treatments out there who will do things like perform bunk hair tests, claim you've been exposed to all sorts of toxins and sell you a crate of supplements which have no biological effect to fix you.

Human beings are big, strong evolved creatures. We've got wonderful organs like kidneys. It's an extremely rare substance that they can't handle.

  10. QUESTION:
Is foul smelling stool a good sign if one's trying to detox and lose weight with an altered diet?
About two months ago, I decided to try and lose some weight and also to try and rid my body of toxins at the same time. I wanted to see if it would help my chronic fatigue syndrome and related disorders, since nothing else really has. I've been taking a lot of prescription meds for pain, anxiety, insomnia and mood regulation for nearly five years. Now, smoothies for breakfast and for most lunches have become my routine. I try to keep them very healthy and filling, using organic fruits and vegetables, Activia or similar Yoplait product, and sometimes soy milk (I'm lactose intolerant). My bowel movements have become very regular, and copious, once or twice per day. But my flatulence has also become very regular, and both my gas and my stool smell different and more foul than before the diet change. Does this mean what I'm doing is unhealthy, or can it mean that I am achieving my goal of cleansing my system of nasties?

    • ANSWER:
Actually, your on the right track. Your intestines and colon build up 'junk" on the walls...just like your kitchen shink pipes do. When you detox you are taking the "junk" off the walls off by Layers. Especially if your an eat meater before all the waste stuck in your system just was rotting. It takes time to remove all the years of bad eating from your system.

      Your doing great..keep it up!

  11. QUESTION:
What raw fruits and veggies should I eat while doing a 3 day detox?
Im familiar with how a 3 day detox works but, I'm not sure of what fruits and veggies I should eat for those 3 days.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
For a week or so before your three day detox diet, prepare your body for the diet by eliminating alcohol and caffeine from your diet. Limit or eliminate your intake of "junk food," sugar, and red meat. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

During the 3 day detox diet, drink nothing but filtered water. If you like, you can add a little fresh-squeezed organic lemon juice to the water. This will help flush the toxins out of your system. Eat light meals of steamed vegetables, fresh organic fruit, and a little brown rice.

Do some moderate exercise during your detox diet. It will improve your circulation, helping the toxins to leave your body, and sweating will help flush toxins from your body. Make sure to drink plenty of water so you stay well hydrated, though.

Following the three day detox diet, don't rush out to McDonald's. Eat lightly for the next several days. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Soups are good. Continue to drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

You can use an herbal supplement along with the 3 day detox diet to increase its effectiveness. Dandelion is a good herb to use, because it has a diuretic effect, meaning it helps flush toxins from your system, and it also supports liver functioning.

  12. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of an organic Candida cleansing kit in a powder or liquid form?
I need to find a good Candida cleansing kit in powder or liquid form because I can not swallow pills. I prefer a kit that is organic. Can anyone tell me where I can find a kit such as I have described?

    • ANSWER:
Ooh, sounds dangerous. I hope you're in contact with a doctor about this. Yahoo answers is a good place for quick info, but I wouldn't consider it the best place to get important health help.

Have you done your homework on the condition? I like to use Amazon.com to track down books that have been highly rated by users. Just search on Candida and then start reading through all the reviews. If I'm not mistaken, Candida really needs to be controlled with diet as well as detox.

Personally, I'm no expert on the condition so I'm not certain what type of detox you need. There are all sorts of different types and, in most cases, I've heard there's an order you should detox. Colon, then liver, then blood and kidneys, etc. I can't guarantee this is true, but I've read it.

If colon detox is what you're after, I've used a system called Colonix by Dr. Natura. I like it best out of the few I've tried because I have trouble swallowing a lot of capsules myself. I also like the way the detox herbs are organized. It makes sense to me. Basically, the system is in 3 parts: powdered fiber and herbs that you mix into water, tea, and some capsules (significantly fewer than other systems. I think the most you ever take / day is 4). You can find out more from their extensive website, DrNatura.com. As a side note, the product is kind of pricey, but I really appreciated the ready customer service they made available because I did have questions.

Whatever you do, I don't think we can stress enough how important it is to be in contact with a doctor about all this (if you're not already). Hope you're feeling well soon!

  13. QUESTION:
Can anyone tell me the BEST, natural way to detox the body?
I want to detox my body of certain chemicals and would like to know the best, fastest and natural way to do so. Im not looking to buy a magic bottle cause they dont work anyway. If you can help suggest a real good way to naturally detox the body that would be great. Ive read so far that "The Master Cleanse Diet" is good, havent tried it yet though. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Jen

You are right in saying "magic bottle cures" don't work, they don't. You need to set aside a period of about 10 days and eat organic fruit and vegetables in their raw state, no animal products, no alcohol and no drugs. Drink plenty of water and do some reasonably light exercise. The main problem is sticking to it cause it's tough. I found that I needed a plan or program which would discipline me into doing the right thing day by day. There are some pretty good detox programs online and some poor ones so choosing the right one isn't easy. If you got to a website which compares detox programs you can find what you need.

      Good luck

  14. QUESTION:
What is the best way to detox my body?
I've recently decided to go the homeopathic route and would like to do some type of detox to get all those nasty toxins out of my body. What's the best way to do that?

    • ANSWER:
Cranberry juice, fresh brewed tea (preferably herbal, caffeine-free), pomegranate, LOTS of water, and anything high in anti-oxidants is a good place to start. Fresh, organic fruits and vegetables with bright colors, and dark green leafy vegetables. Avoid salty, packaged foods, caffeine, artificial flavoring/coloring, and meat.

If you are ready for the commitment, try fasting for about a week. Some yoga books have tips on fasting, and going back to eating so that you don't have excessive cravings.

  15. QUESTION:
What juice helps with nic detox- quitting smoking?
Is there a juice or something that will help the body detox faster to help minimize the time it takes to rid yourself of the withdrawl from cigs?
We live on Braggs here, so I do have it..Thanks for the very helpful answer!

    • ANSWER:
Yes a 50-50 combination fresh apple and carrot juice will detox the body quickly, as will wheat grass juice. The former, freshly done and unpasteurized, otherwise it is a waste. In place of wheat grass juice, you can consume wheat grass powder or liquid, and you'll find these in drug stores, health stores, and on the internet.

An alternative is organic apple cider vinegar (most stores carry Braggs), not the Heinz pasteurized stuff, but organic, in a tonic of purified water and honey. Works like like a charm! Combine it with your carrot/apple juice, and you'll be detoxed in no time.

And, load up on Vitamin C daily -- at least 3000 mg (5000 mg pref,). Keep increasing mg until you start experiencing a loose stool. There are many reasons for the C, but one of the major ones is to help alleviate any "ex-smoker's flu" at most people get.

Which brings me to...you can feel absolutely miserable when detoxing -- all those toxins leaving your system frequently make you feel like you're about to die. Work through it, and soon all that will be gone.

      Good luck.

  16. QUESTION:
How to detox from hydrogenated oil?
I normally eat organic and unprocessed food every day. However, lately my family has purchased some food that contains hydrogenated oil, and I have eaten it. What should I do to cleanse my body from it? Or, am I fine? Is taking ACV diluted in water and then drinking some tea to help digest my food good enough to get rid of the trans fat oil?

    • ANSWER:
Cold pressed oils with Omega 3's will help your arteries heal.
It is more of something that does damage over time so you are probably okay.

What are your thoughts on Cellular Detoxes, is there any validity?
I recently had a Body Composition Analysis at a spa and was told I had 2 Liters of toxic liquid in my body. They said I should go on a full body cellular detox claiming that the body holds toxins in fat cells that cannot be removed without detox. They were promoting the Elemis brand internal detox system

What are your thoughts on Cellular Detoxes, is there any validity? Has anyone tried one?

    • ANSWER:
While it is true that the body has within it the means to remove toxins held in areas within it, ... the enormous onslaught of toxins which the body is exposed to in the modern world we live in, is extremely un-natural and the body is not designed to contend with such toxic assault on what amounts to a continuous basis.

As well, the fact that many today do not eat a truly healthy diet and practice regular exercise etc, ... also does not support the body in cleansing itself of toxins which it accumulates over time. ..... A true detoxification process is one that supports the body in doing what it already knows how to do with respect to cleansing itself of toxins.

There are specific herbal combinations which will gently support the liver and kidneys and colon etc. in cleansing the body of built up toxins. ...... Properly applied juice fasting is another natural tool that can be utilized towards supporting the body in eliminating toxins.

A cleansing raw food diet which incorporates plenty of organic produce as well as juicing of fresh produce on a daily basis and accompanied with regular exercise are also very good tools that help to support the body in detoxifying.

You can implement your own detoxifying program on your own and in some cases for free, ...so there's no need to pay anyone for this. .. All you need to do is educate yourself on how to do it properly and then implement it. .... There are some great books out there which will inform you on this.

      EDIT:

The Presidents Cancer Panel April 2010 report
from The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services
      seems to disagree with Weise Ent on the situation with toxic chemicals in modern life;

"... • The Panel was particularly concerned to find that the true burden of environmentally induced cancer has been grossly underestimated. With nearly 80,000 chemicals on the market in the United States, many of which are used by millions of Americans in their daily lives and are un- or understudied and largely unregulated, exposure to potential environmental carcinogens is widespread. One such ubiquitous chemical, bisphenol A (BPA), is still found in many consumer products and remains unregulated in the United States, despite the growing link between BPA and several diseases, including various cancers.

      • However, the grievous harm from this group of carcinogens has not been addressed adequately by the National Cancer Program. The American people -- even before they are born -- are bombarded continually with myriad combinations of these dangerous exposures.

      • Some scientists maintain that current toxicity testing and exposure limit-setting methods fail to accurately represent the nature of human exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Current toxicity testing relies heavily on animal studies that utilize doses substantially higher than those likely to be encountered by humans. These data -- and the exposure limits extrapolated from them -- fail to take into account harmful effects that may occur only at very low doses.

      • Only a few hundred of the more than 80,000 chemicals in use in the United States have been tested for safety.

      • While all Americans now carry many foreign chemicals in their bodies, women often have higher levels of many toxic and hormone-disrupting substances than do men. Some of these chemicals have been found in maternal blood, placental tissue, and breast milk samples from pregnant women and mothers who recently gave birth. Thus, chemical contaminants are being passed on to the next generation, both prenatally and during breastfeeding.

      • The entire U.S. population is exposed on a daily basis to numerous agricultural chemicals, some of which also are used in residential and commercial landscaping. Many of these chemicals have known or suspected carcinogenic or endocrine-disrupting properties. Pesticides (insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides) approved for use by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contain nearly 900 active ingredients, many of which are toxic.

      • Many of the solvents, fillers, and other chemicals listed as inert ingredients on pesticide labels also are toxic, but are not required to be tested for their potential to cause chronic diseases such as cancer. In addition to pesticides, agricultural fertilizers and veterinary pharmaceuticals are major contributors to water pollution, both directly and as a result of chemical processes that form toxic by-products when these substances enter the water supply. ..."

  20. QUESTION:
would a two-week fruit & veggie detox be good/bad for my health?
I've heard mixed opinions on detoxes, but I was wondering if a 2-week diet of simply fruits & vegetables would be healthy or if I'd need to eat grains/meats/proteins. Has anyone tried the fruit/veggie detox?

    • ANSWER:
Consuming mostly raw fresh fruits and veggies should always be what our diet entails! Our bodies will naturally detox in a healthy, safe and effective way. You don't need grains, meats or proteins although you may want to add a tad of essential fatty acids - Organic extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, sprouted nuts and seeds. Definitely no dairy products, either. When you hear someone dissing the idea of a detox, they are basically talking about most of the detox pills and programs that may be harmful. You want to concentrate on eating this alkalizing diet that will give you everything you need for great health:

According to total daily caloric intake:
80% fruit and freshly-made fruit juices
      10-15% greens
      5-10% essential fatty acids

  21. QUESTION:
Can anyone suggest a good 7 day detox plan?
I am looking to start a 7 day detox plan followed by a raw food plan and then a juice fast. Does anyone know any 7 day plans to start me off on my way? And can anyone tell me what the benefits are?
    Thank You!

    • ANSWER:
I was exactly where you are last year when I started detoxing and a raw food diet.

I have tried a few detox and colon cleansing plans over the past year and the one that I have continued with is called Sukkiri Detox out of Japan (don't worry, the ship worldwide cheap).

There is a 3day pre-cleanse followed by a 7day detox. I have done it both while doing a juice fast and on my second cleanse I did it with organic raw foods.

      Benefits:
I lost about 5 pounds, my tummy flattened out, the bumps around my temple for the most part disappeared and I felt extremely sharp. My mind was crisp. I guess everyone has different experiences but if you have done it you will know what I mean.

I have done a good job staying on the raw foods diet because I cleanse every 3 months. That way, when I start to stray from my diet, I try to remember that I have a cleanse coming up and I have to prepare which helps me stick to it.

      Good luck!

  22. QUESTION:
Are you allowed to chew gum on a detox diet?
I'm planning on starting a 1-2 week detox diet tomorrow where i only eat fresh fruits and veggies and drink water, but i'm a chewing gum addict, so i was wondering if i can still chew gum while on this diet?

    • ANSWER:
Unless your gum says "100% organic ingredients" and is made of real chicle -- not the synthetic rubber used in almost all chewing gums -- perhaps it would be better to avoid chewing it. Instead, buy good chewing gum off the net -- stuff made from chicle. Or you could buy a coconut or some oat groats. Both of those things will keep you chewing for an hour per mouthful.

      Hope this helps.

  23. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of a detox program to speed up the reomoval of depo provera from our bodies?
I have been on depo for 2yrs for contreception as well as management for my endometriosis. I now want to start a family & have just found out that depo can stay in our bodies for 18mths or more. Has anyone heard of any natural/alternative or even conventional treatments that detox our bodies of the depo hormones or neutralise the effects of the depo injections?

    • ANSWER:
Because DMPA persists in the body for several months in women who have used it on a long-term basis, it can delay the return to fertility. Approximately 70% of former users desiring pregnancy conceive within 12 months, and 90% of former users conceive within 24 months. Similar to the delay in fertility after discontinuation of DMPA, other adverse effects, such as weight gain, depression, and menstrual irregularities, may continue for as long as 1 year after the last injection.

The book Contraceptive Technology says: "It is not possible to discontinue Depo Provera immediately. Weight gain, depression, breast tenderness, allergic reactions, and menstrual irregularities may continue until Depo Provera is cleared from a woman's body, about 6 to 8 months after her last injection. After discontinuing Depo Provera, women may also have a 6 to 12 month delay in return of fertility."

You might try cleansing techniques to detox or eliminate the synthetic hormone from where it is stored in your body's tissues: drink lots of water every day, eat lots of fresh raw organic vegetables, drink raw vegetable juice, sweat in a steam room or sauna, get lots of exercise and fresh air. You can also ask at a health food store about herbal formulas or teas that help detoxify your body or that balance female hormones, or talk with a naturopathic physician or herbalist.

The FDA issued a "black-box" warning in November 2004, stating that bone loss from using Depo-Provera "may not be completely reversible" even after stopping the drug. The warning urged women not to use Depo-Provera on a long-term basis unless all other methods were inadequate.

Most users of DMPA are teens at a crucial age for the building of bone density; about 10% of American females aged 15-19 years who use birth control use Depo-Provera, compared with 3% of women in the United States overall.

Recent studies have contradicted the FDA warning. Women who stopped using DMPA experienced an average bone gain of 1.34% at the hip versus a loss of 0.19% for women who never took the drug. Spine density increased 2.86% for women who stopped using the drug, compared with an increase of 1.32% for nonusers. Furthermore, teens regained their bone density faster than older women using Depo-Provera.

  24. QUESTION:
What's a great way to detox your body?
I am headed to Las Vegas for New Year's Eve this year and I'd like to detox my body and shed a couple of pounds before I go. Does anyone have any tips on great detox and weight-loss programs for a short period of time? Not looking to spend a great deal of money either. Mainly, just want to "feel" better if you know what I mean. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
There is are "detox" blends of tea available from various brands, such as Yogi Tea and Celestial Seasonings. These are usually available in the organic foods section of many grocery stores, if not just in the tea aisle. They have a taste which is rather difficult to acquire... But, if you can make yourself drink a whole cup about an hour before lunch, and an hour before dinner, it helps a lot.

If you can't get used to the dandelion-root & chamomile flavour of the detox teas, any other kind of tea will serve a similar purpose, just not quite so completely.

Also, don't eat your biggest meal of the day at the end of it - have a big breakfast or lunch, but take it easy for dinner. Eat your last large meal at least four hours before you become totally sedentary for the evening (either sleeping or watching T.V.), and drink lots and lots and lots of water. Yes, it will make you pee, but remind yourself that's a Good Thing.

One solid month of discipline will make your New Year resolution a breeze to keep!

  25. QUESTION:
What detox program and or suppliments are best for plastic-related toxins?
I've heard that detox programs work well for heavy metals, but what adjustments can be made for removing toxins related to plastic leaching, such as from plastic food containers, cups, water stored in those 5 gallon polycarbonate bottles, other plastic water bottles, and toxins that due to being organic compounds are less likely to be treated as toxins by the body.

Or would the same programs work just as well? Has anyone got their bodies tested?

    • ANSWER:
I think a basic detox would help for both metal s and plastics. detox's don't target certain toxins, they flush the body of all, giving the organs a rest for a while.
I would recommend a juice fast

  26. QUESTION:
Can you subsitute lemon juice from the bottle for the lemons in the lemon detox diet?
Goin on a diet but every where i go the lemon r nasty so thats where the lemomn juice comes in. Also whats in the lemon detox diet. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Use only fresh organic lemons and not concentrated lemon juice. Organic fruits are not grown by chemical fertilizers and not sprayed with pesticides therefore they are chemical free. Bottled or canned lemon juice contains sugar and other preservatives which are some of the sources of toxicity levels in your system therefore stay away from them.

  28. QUESTION:
What are some great tasting alkaline recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert?
I have recently started a detox diet and want to know some great tasting alkaline recipes that are quick and easy. I have a very busy schedule and constantly on the go. So, I need to be able to whip something together fast that’s filling and tasty.

    • ANSWER:
      For Breakfast:

A raw fruit and vegetable smoothie is a great breakfast alkaline recipe. In a blender add a handful of organic raw spinach, one banana, the juice from one orange (and the pulp if wanted), five to six organic baby carrots and eight ounces of aloe vera juice (this will counter balance the acidity of the orange juice, but you will still get the taste).

      Answer: For Lunch or Dinner:

A quick lunch and/or dinner alkaline recipe is an organic vegetable soup. In a slow cooker place your favorite organic vegetables (e.g. spinach, broccoli, and carrots or green beans, corn, leeks, and potatoes). Pour organic low sodium vegetable broth on top and season with Braggs Amino. Cook until vegetables are tender, blend half the soup then mix back in for a creamier texture.

      Answer: For Dessert:

A fast and delicious alkaline recipe for dessert is an organic fruit-yogurt sorbet. Just blend half a cup of each of organic blueberries, strawberries, mango, and vanilla Greek yogurt. Pour into a freezer safe container and chill until the mixture has become thickened. Keep on hand to fulfill your sweet tooth.

  31. QUESTION:
Everyone talks about toxins. But what are they, what can they do to you and how do you detoxify?
I always hear about dangerous toxins that get into your system and that there are methods of detox, but I don't know what it's referring to. How do we absorb them and why are they dangerous? If you detoxify, how will that improve your health? What is a good method of detoxification and how do the toxins leave your body?

    • ANSWER:
Toxins are effective and specific poisons produced by living organisms. They usually consist of an amino acid chain which can vary in molecular weight between a couple of hundred (peptides) and one hundred thousand (proteins). They may also be low-molecular organic compounds. Toxins are produced by numerous organisms, e.g., bacteria, fungi, algae and plants. Many of them are extremely poisonous, with a toxicity that is several orders of magnitude greater than the nerve agents.

    • ANSWER:
I'm doing the exact same thing! I've been doing a lot of Google research, and following a healthy diet, as well as exercising, and cutting out fatty and junk foods... I've lost 10 pounds in 5 days so far :)

Here are some tips to help:

-Avoid "white" carbohydrates, such as bread, rice, cereal, potatoes, pasta, and fried food.

-Healthy foods to eat: proteins, such as egg whites (take the yolk out, since it's quite fatty) with one whole egg for flavor, chicken breast or thigh, grass-fed organic beef and pork, lentils, black beans, pinto beans, vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, peas, corn and mixed vegetables.

-I eat 4 small meals a day, with foods that will help you feel full (I find healthy oatmeal with no added sugar really helps, and contains a lot of fiber to help cleanse your digestive system)

-Drink lots of water, unsweetened iced tea, tea, diet soda's, coffee (without sugar or cream), no calorie, or low calorie juice. Make sure you always keep yourself hydrated, as all these also help cleanse your digestive system (I find tea and coffee work the best)

-And last but not least, exercise. I do about an hour a day, if you're out of shape, don't push yourself too hard. Walking, jogging, sprinting, bicycling, hiking, are all good workouts, or if you feel like staying home and doing a workout, I do sit ups, jogging in one place (put your hands out in front of you, and hit your hands with your knee's), jumping jacks, skipping with a weighted rope, or even dancing. Always make sure you stretch before doing any of these, otherwise you could end up pulling muscles, and it can be quite painful. Whatever makes you sweat is a good workout in my opinion. I also find going on YouTube and looking for a good exercise video really helps as well.

      Good luck! :)

  33. QUESTION:
What is your favorite vegetable to snack on?
Im on a vegetable detox and i want to know some good vegetables to snack on?

    • ANSWER:
Cucumber, Celery (preferably with peanut butter though), Carrot (especially with cheese bits)
But the some of best ones for a vegie detox are:
Brocoli, as it's fibre as well as Vitamins A and C
Other leafy greens (eg, spinach, kale)
Not as good, but also: tomatoes, capsicum/bell peppers, eggplant, carrot, onion
Avoid anything with much sugar, and quickly check up on the different minerals and vitamins in different vegetables, as getting vegetables with a variety (such as the above) is best

      Other general tips:
Try to buy organic vegies, and foods in general, as they are healthier and better for you
Raw vegetables are best, as they retain as much as possible of their vitamins and minerals, but if not raw then try to expose them to heat as little as possible, such as steaming them
Avoid corn and white potatoes-they have no exclusive nutrients, and are starchy, a very bad thing for any diet
Vegetable juices are also a great thing to try, as are fresh, unsuagared fruit juices. Vegetable juices are often a mix of juices, frequently having some fruit juice in them too. Try a mixture of carrot, beetroot, celery and apples
When buying juices, especially fruit juices, be VERY careful about purchasing any with sugars, preservatives, colours etcetera. The biggest brands will often have the most sugar. Check the labels on the back and compare sugar content
Of course, the best thing to do is to simply prepare your own juices using a mixer or blender...it's easy!
I hope all of that helped

  34. QUESTION:
Why don't detox pills clean out the body system for good?
If I take 2 pills a day for 3 days would that clean me out for good instead of just 5 hours if I take 2 pills only. They are called champ detox.

    • ANSWER:
      .
Never buy detox from a store. I have done detox that I bought from a chiropractor and the detox program is made from organic whole-food. It is over three weeks and only after the first week I could feel a big change to the better in my body. This detox cleans your lungs, hart, liver, kidney and other organs. And another good thing, you loose a lot of fat too. I had stigma and that went away. It was so many good results I had with it, so I have done twice a year.
These detoxes are made from Standard Process Inc., but never buy it from other than a chiropractor or other health care person, because no one shall make profit from it.

  35. QUESTION:

Is drinking only tea a good way to detox if I only do it for 4-5 days? like arizona green tea, and other herbal tea bags.
I'm not mainly concerned about losing weight, I want to flush out my system and "start new", I was just wondering if it's safe?

if you want more info - email me. It's all organic and whole food!

  36. QUESTION:
Does EXCESS consumption of fruits and vegetables adversely affect a detox?
Im currently undertaking a detox and am losing a lot weight but im feeling alot better and despite consuming less calories my energy is going up!

I know its the fundamental principle of a detox to give the liver kidneys gi tract etc a rest when detoxing to let them flush out toxins and catch up on backdated work but i wondering if its possible that increasing my fruit and vege intake to counter weight loss may affect my detox

    • ANSWER:
Not if your fruits and veggies are organic. Don't continue the detox too long though, you are not getting protein this way, and your health will begin to decline. Begin adding whole grains and legumes to have adequate protein for your tissues, organs, muscles.

I am wanting to do the Marthas Vineyard Detox Diet. I am needing to get more recipes for different juices.

  38. QUESTION:
Is there a way to detox without buying anything?
Now its not what you think, i'm not on drugs. I just want to cleanse my system and get toxins out such as caffene and chemicals that are in processed foods. Is there a way I can do it without having to buy the kits at the store?? I was thinking maybe if i would fast for a few days or only drink water and organic juices for a few days or something like that?/ Would that work?

lots of water (or tea anything water based)

  39. QUESTION:
Where can i get high quality natural vitamins and supplements?
so im trying to detox but i need 4000 mg lecithin, multi-vitamin, 400 IU vit. e, spirtulina, a potent flora supp, and a full spectrum digestive enzyme. but im having problems finding all of this. i would like to get all my products at the same place. i dont want any synthetic strains or a whole bunch of chemicals. any suggestions? or really goooood brands?

    • ANSWER:
You don't need all that - your body doesn't need "help" doing that...and most vitamins ARE synthetic, and most "organic" vitamins are nothing but chemical vitamins thrown on a compost heap - how do I know? Would you like to know how many hours of those silly trainings I went to? Rainbow light makes nice stuff - natures way made some very nice probiotics. Don't get too spendy - it's not worth it.

      But I like iherb.com - - you can read product reviews there - - that's a nice feature

  40. QUESTION:
what are good organic foods for detoxing your body?
I eat a 95% organic diet already, but I'm curious about which organics foods I should eat when I'm wanting to detox my body.

    • ANSWER:
Detoxing, and getting rid of build up inside you is really easy if you fast correctly. Organic food is still just food. Your body loves being cleaned and fasting is a good way to do it, but only if you do it, right, maybe 24 hours at first. If you like how good you feel afterwards, try again next month.

Just drink tea, water, hot broth, clear soups- ginger and fresh mint leaves clean you out very well- boil them up in a pan of water, and drink.

Your body heals itself when you leave it alone a while. ONce there's food inside you, your body is at work. The more meat, cooked food, dairy and other hard to digest stuff you put in there, the harder your body has to work. Vegan food is better, and raw vegan is the best. But that's not for everyone, so I can recommend giving yourself a break if you can wrap your head around a day long fast. It's the one thing that really DOES clean your body out, and gets rid of toxins, poison in the build up.

  41. QUESTION:
Master Cleanse: Does anyone use Organic Agave Nectar for their cleanse instead of maple syrup grade b?
Does anyone use Organic Agave Nectar for their cleanse instead of maple syrup grade b? If so how effective has it been, and have you lost any weight? Does anyone know if its better to use the Maple Syrup or the Agave? Does it matter?

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
The lemon detox/master cleanse diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose weight on this diet whether you are attempting weight loss or just trying to "cleanse". The average adult has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose up to 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system. Plus the weight of the lost glycogen stores, excess sodium and associated water. This can add up to 15-20 lbs depending on your build. So it does work but it does not change your size. Pour the soda out of a bottle and the shape of the bottle doesn't change does it? Once you start eating again you just replace all the missing food in the system.
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available. The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to convert muscle and even organ tissue first for fuel instead of the stored fat. Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed. The complete opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. And sadly metabolism actually drops.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body.
A healthy high fiber diet works every time.
Increases the speed and efficiency of the digestive system and helps the body rid itself of both internal and environmental toxins.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
Search "gut flora" to learn about the beneficial bacteria we need in our colon.
We have more beneficial bacteria in our digestive systems than all the cells in our bodies!
Did you know the digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system?
They don't tell you about the gas, cramping, and bloating you will experience when you start eating again and the body has to rebuild this bacteria population.
Spend your money in the produce department.
      Good luck.

  42. QUESTION:
ARE PRE-CUT VEGETABLES BAD FOR YOU AND ALTERNATIVE TO WATER?
I'm planning on going on a detox for as long as I can

So as food I would be eating raw vegetables and fruits.

To save me time I thought buying Pre-cut vegetables would be a good idea but I want to know if there bad (health wise) for you, I've been told they contains different things other than just the veg itself.

So shall I not by pre cut veg. ALSO in tesco/ sainsburys they sell small washed carrot batons that have been peeled only are they just the same health wise?

and I'm not a big fan on water the taste can be feel sick, so whats the healthist alternative? other than smoothies, are squashes/ cordial extremely bad for you or is there any alternative to water you can give me?

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Hi, I'll give my opinion on your questions.

I am currently eating raw (mostly fruit) until 6pm, then a salad and some cooked food for evening meal. I noticed last night- I bought a bag of shredded carrot from asda, and there was a strange smell to it, like a faint smell of disinfectant- not a pleasant aroma for a carrot to have. The thing is with food that has been prepared in any way- do you know where it has been prepared, and who by? Did they care, or did they accidently drop a fingernail or a booger in the machine?! These are the things you never know, and why I think that the best thing is if you can pull the vegetable out of the ground yourself, and the next best is if you buy it whole and prepare it yourself. So of course it's your choice, but personally, I think I'm going to grate my own carrots from now on. Of course, it is much cheaper too.

I think the recent scandal of horsemeat in burgers highlights the fact that you can't trust food that has been processed in any way. There's less likely to be contamination in a bag of chopped carrot than a burger, but there is still that risk. For instance, I heard that bagged salad leaves are blasted with chlorinated water to clean them, and they have a much higher chlorine 'content' than a lettuce that is sold whole. Do you want to eat bleach with your dinner? Me neither!

I don't know about those carrot batons. I've heard that a lot of the goodness in fruit and vege is in and near the skin, and that has been removed from the batons. Others say that you need to peel vege to get rid of some of the pesticide residue. Personally, I'd prefer to munch on a whole raw carrot. If it's organic, so much the better.

Regarding your water question- I water fasted last year, and after three days I really noticed the smell of chlorine in tap water, so then I went out and bought a water filter jug. After reading more about toxins in tap water, I bought a water distiller to get rid of the fluoride and whatever else is in there. My water now tastes delicious and sweet, and it's rare for me to drink anything else. So you could try either of those options. Otherwise, I don't think cordials and squashes are particularly bad for you. I also like the occasional cup of Rooibush tea- it's caffeine free naturally.

If you're going to go raw for any length of time, you probably need to make sure you eat from 4 main food groups- juicy fruits, green leafy vege, nuts and seeds.

The quickest detox is a water fast- there's plenty of information on the web if this method interests you.

Good luck! Detoxing yourself is a fascinating journey :)

  43. QUESTION:
Is it ok to do the cabbage soup diet to kick start a long term healthy eating plan?
So i know the cabbage soup diet is
    - not HEALTHY to do for a long time since it is not balanced and starves your body
-the weight it makes you lose is basically water weight, not fat

Also is exercise recommended with the cabbage soup diet?

    • ANSWER:
I would actually recommend to do the Smart for Life Cookie Diet. It worked for me when I wanted a kick start at permanent weight loss. They make their products with nearly all organic products, so that it is good for you. I liked the way the diet gave me a structured, manageable routine to follow that worked well with my personal and hectic business schedule. I lost about 60 lbs in 3.5 months and have kept it off since. Check it out and let me know.

  45. QUESTION:
Can drinking green juice produce heart attack symptoms as a side effect?
I have the suspicion that what took me to the hospital 2 weeks ago was the green juicing. I juice organic greens with apple, cucumber, herbs like cilantro or parsley, and ginger. Then, I put a little lemon juice, a pinch of cayenne, and a pinch of cinnamon.
The tests results didn't show heart disease, or high pressure, or cholesterol or blocked arteries. I was 100% fine. But I had all the symptoms: chest pain, I lost the mobility in my arms, my legs were swollen, and the lower part of my face was numb.
Last summer I did the juicing for the first time, and I had very painful neuropathy symptoms.
I started to juice again today for the 3rd time, and I began to feel the chest pain.
Is this all a coincidence? Are these symptoms related with juicing? Could it be an allergic reaction? Could it be detoxifying symptoms? So soon, as couple of hours later...is that possible?
I am doing the juicing to lose weight and to feel better... more energy.... less stressed…
Also because I like it very much… I like the flavor…. And because I want the health benefits … also, because is a very simple way to give nutrition to you body…
(if your are not knowledgeable about the topic, please, don’t reply)

    • ANSWER:
      I juice regularly.

When I include a high concentration of greens (kale, chard, collard greens, parsley, and especially fresh cilantro) I do experience detox symptoms. However, mine are unlike what you describe.

My symptoms usually consist of intestinal discomfort, minor skin irritations, and really bad headaches. Oh, and Major fatigue for a few days as well. And the first time I did it seriously, I also had heart palpitations, (All these eventually subsided.)

From what I understand - and I am no naturopath or holistic doctor by any means - a person's length and severity of detox depends on the specific toxins in one's body and one's various health weaknesses. Mine seem to be related to the heavy metal load I still have in my body from past living and working situations, as well as severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Even with all the discomfort at the start of a juice fast, I do feel that juicing helps me in the long run - and I hope it does you too.

  47. QUESTION:
Is my organic herbal colon cleanse working?
I have been taking an organic herbal colon cleanse for about 2wks. Now and the only thing I noticed is increased bowel movements. Nothing major like elimination of built up waste as it promises. The product is called Bromolite and it says it does all these things and I haven't seen any. I have been eating properly and exercising, which promotes bowel movement and still nothing. Is it too soon? Am I wasting my time and should try something else? Please help! I really want to flush this stuff from my colon.

    • ANSWER:
I did a web search on Bromolite and can't find anything except to say that the bromolaide is the fiber from a pineapple.

  48. QUESTION:
Can you use lemon juice for lemon detox diet?
I've been interested in trying the "master cleanse" lemon detox diet. However, I was wondering if organic lemon juice would provide the same results? Also, any personal tips/experience anyone has with the diet would be helpful. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Your diet can be your detox! Eating a frugivore diet is the best way to help regenerate cells and restore great health. Reversing acidosis is the #1 choice for true detoxing. When we eat a diet consisting of 80% (of total calories daily) fruit, 15% greens and 5% good fats, we alkalize our bodies. If a person is very acidic and sufferers with dis-ease, they may also want to add some herbs or pure herbal formulas.

  2. QUESTION:
What is the best way to do a full body detox cleanse? Ive been sluggish & tired lately, I want to start fresh!
I want to do a full body detox cleanse. I have been so tired and sluggish lately, and need something to cleanse my system. I last did a cleanse about 4 months ago & it really helped, but they have since discontinued the product I used.
I am a 24 y.o female, moderately active lifestyle, in s. ontario. I eat mainly organic and healthy foods, no fast food at all. Walk my dog every day with my son. Am on a budget, and some cleanse programs I checked out are ridiculously expensive. I'd like to find something that won't cost me anything outrageous, and is affordable to do every 3 months or so.
I take a multi vitamin, B12, B6, and iron supplements.
I have IBS, and cleansing seems to help calm it down a lot, too.

... Sounds like you are doing a good job of taking care of yourself. Good for you. ...

My personal experience is that fasting is the most powerful and most natural way to cleanse the body. ... Some folks believe that properly done juice fasting is the best way to do this,.. and others believe that straight water fasting is the only true way to fast. ........ Personally, I feel that juice fasting is by far the wiser choice for someone who has not already done a good deal of cleansing work on their system,.. or at least already well into a cleansing, organic and healthy vegetarian diet. ................. If you are talking about someone who is already on a pretty clean diet and who is not taking any sorts of medications or with any serious illnesses,.. than I would say that water fasting is a safe way to go.
.... If a person is taking any sort of medications,... then I would definately not do any sort of fasting. In that case, I would encourage them to go on a cleansing diet, (such as you already follow). ............ If someone is dealing with any sort of serious illness,.. then I would reccommend that they only fast under professional supervision.

Fasting, as a form of cleansing, is thousands of years old,... and of course, (if you are not juice fasting),.. it costs absolutely nothing financially. .. Fasting is an extremely powerful tool for promoting and maintaining health. .................. If you have never fasted before,. I would reccommend that you begin by doing a couple of 24 hour fasts once a week,.. followed by a couple of 3 day fasts once a month,.. followed by a seven day fast which you might do perhaps one month after your second 3 day fast. ................. After that,.. you can either move up to a 10 or a 14 day fast, if that feels right for you,.. (perhaps a few months or more after the 7 day fast), ........... and then You could do something like one 7 or 10 day fast once a year or once every six months,.. to continue to promote and maintain your health.
.............. You need to know that fasting is a science,.. and there is much to learn about how to properly begin,.. undergo and then end and come out of a fast. .... There are some good books available which will instruct you on how to properly fast. Most of them offer somewhat different approaches and philosophies,.. but if you are talking about a straight water fast,... the important instruction pertains to how to begin and how to end the fast. ............ You could look into the books by such authors as; Paul Bragg or Paavo Airola (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=br_ss_hs/103-4191513-9866213?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dblended&keywords=Fasting&Go.x=7&Go.y=9) ....

There is also information available for free on the web. You will definately find that everyone offers different advice and different approaches. You should choose the advice that feels right to you and your needs.

If you do choose to fast,.. you may want to try and get some high colonics once or twice after you are well into the fast, to help clean out your colon. This is an excellent additional tool to go along with the cleansing process.

      Be Well....

  3. QUESTION:
What order should I do a total body detox cleanse in?
So I've done many detox and cleanse periods through my life and I live a pretty healthy life style (I've been a strict vegetarian for almost 15 years and an occasional hiker/runner) But none the less, I've been eating more junk food over the last few months and am feeling the need to do a detox/cleanse some time this month or next as I start to move to a more vegan lifestyle and get back into running.

I normally tend to do the cleases slowly, taking two weeks to cut down sugar and caffeine etc. Then I do mostly raw food for a day or two, then an other 2 days all raw, then 2 days of juice fasting and two days of water fasting.

But I'm wondering if this is the best order to do things or if I should reverse the process and do my weaning off caffeine etc. then go right into 2 or 3 days of water fasting followed by juice, then all raw, then mostly raw, then moving back into a normal (healthier) diet.

What order (or any other suggestions) would you recommend? Thanks so much in advanced! :)

    • ANSWER:
There's no wrong way of doing a detox.

I've had great results doing a 16-24 hour fast, then pursue my habit of eating then on. It will eliminate toxins from your body and all that growth hormone producing during a fast will keep ya frisky...and will burn fat too

Green tea works well, even while fasting.

Good luck with the vegan lifestyle. I'm more of a steak and eggs person

  4. QUESTION:
What is the best detox/cleanse on the market?
I just started the paleo diet and working out daily about 2 weeks ago, and I really want to do a cleanse whether is be a "weight loss" one, a colon one, or a total body one, whichever is best. What do you have the best experience with? I don't want to waste my money on something stupid. I've heard a lot about the Advocare cleanse and how well it worked for some people, however there are SOME terrible reviews. I tried looking on GNC's website and read reviews for a few and they are just too mixed. So, what's the best detox/cleanse out there and why? Please and thank you:)

  7. QUESTION:
What does a cleanse do to the body? Are they really that great?
What does a detox cleanse do to the body? How can I "cleanse" my body? How long does it take to do a cleanse? Does it change the outer appearance of the body, or just "clean out" the inside?

    • ANSWER:
It's pretty much all a crock. There's no evidence that any of the so-called "cleanses" out there do anything they claim to be able to do. What they DO is compromise your immune system, starve your body of needed nutrients, and and other harmful things.

Your liver is already the natural "detoxifier" in your body. There is no need to detox with these cleanses because your liver does that already.

Don't your body by buying into a fad health kick. It is pointless.

  8. QUESTION:
What happens to your body when you detox?
I interested in finding out what happens to your body while your on one of those diet detox's. How does the detox cleanse out your body and how do you benefit?
Also are there any side effects of detoxing both during and after?

    • ANSWER:
Well you detox because throughout your life your body gets filled with harmful substances and toxins. Eating packaged food, second hand smoking, living near a chemical plant, drinking unfiltered tap water (what can I say), etc. There are so many ways to get chemicals and all types of things into your body that will make you feel tired, sick, broken down. Detoxification methods can help clean you out of those chemicals, foods like green tea helps protect the body against free radicals, one of the substances that ruin you inside out.

Side effects of a detox? Only depends on what you're detoxing from. People who are undergoing drug and alcohol detoxes will suffer withdrawal symptoms, not really from detoxing but because they are addicted, taking them away from alcohol and drugs causes a reaction to the body because it was dependent on those things.

Your body will be getting rid of toxins and chemicals during a detox, basically you'll see real dirty stuff coming out of you than you would when you take a shower/bath =P

  9. QUESTION:
What is the best safest way to cleanse out my body?

    • ANSWER:
Yes drink a lot of water but not to much. Eat veggies and fruit alot. Raisens are very good along with pomegranate juice. Those will clean out your system very well

  10. QUESTION:
Is there some way to naturally detox or cleanse your body?
Is there some way to naturally detox or cleanse your body?

    • ANSWER:
There is a lot of hype around "detoxing" and "cleansing" these days. Most of what you'll hear is untrue, and can be just a waste of your time and money. There’s no evidence that detoxing and cleansing has any health benefit. Nonetheless, there are lifestyle changes you can make to “detox” your body. Cutting back on saturated fats, daily calories, refined grains, sugar, and sodium can help you reap all kinds of health benefits. Instead, choose fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy, lean protein, seafood, and healthy fats.

  11. QUESTION:
do detox cleanses effect your metabolism?
ive been wanting to try a detox cleanse (the master cleanse 14 days) but i dont want to gain weight just going back to a normal diet.

will the cleanse actually bite me in the a** in the end?

    • ANSWER:
Amanda it will bite you back in the end (in your end?).
The lemon detox or master cleanse/starvation diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose a few pounds but when you start eating again you will probably gain more weight.
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available.
The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to burn muscle mass for fuel instead of the stored fat (metabolism).
Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed.
When you start eating again the body immediately stores any food as fat because it doesn't know when the next famine is coming. You really don't detox since a substantial portion of the toxins in the body are stored in fat cells. So if you don't lose the fat, you don't lose the toxins.
The complete opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.
Additionally, many toxins are stored in our fat cells so in order to truly "detox", you need to lose excess body fat as well to fully detox. Our liver and kidneys aren't clogged with toxins. Otherwise we would be dead.
The liver does in fact get layered with fat when we become overweight.
Search gut flora to learn about the beneficial bacteria we need in our colon.
      Good luck.

what is a good book with natural remedies for womens health?
i want to detox, cleanse, and get my uterus in shape. i dont have a period right now and im looking for natural fixes. what are some great books, websites, or google search keywords?

    • ANSWER:
The best way to detox and cleanse your system is with natural foods. Try a raw food diet for a week or two- (fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fresh juices, filtered water) your body will cleanse itself and balance your hormones naturally. (My husband advises this diet for women trying to conceive- and it works the vast majority of the time.)

The two books I would highly recommend are:
Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Christiane Northrup
Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Balch & Balch

  16. QUESTION:
is it healthy to detox and cleanse the body using a kit?
I was considering trying a detox and cleansing kit, 2-week program. Is this really healthy for a person to do, or is damaging towards the body/organs?

    • ANSWER:
It is not healthy. Detox "diets" are a scam. They don't "cleanse" your body of "toxins" or anything like that. All they do is deprive you of calories, macronutrients and vitamins. If you feel like starving yourself for two weeks, then that's your prerogative, but you shouldn't be that cruel to your body.

  20. QUESTION:
What are the best foods to eat to detox your body, to get ready for a diet?
I've been on a diet for a while now, and I have not seen any results. I did not detox or cleanse my body before I started. Is that the reason I have failed? Will cleansing my system help with the weight loss?

    • ANSWER:
I don't know if detoxing your body will help you achieve your dieting goals, but cranberry juice is a good detoxer. Are you exercising as well? One of the key components to losing weight is using more calories than you consume, so that your body has to take the extra needed calories (your body's energy source) from your fat cells. So my suggestion is just eat low calorie food, and exercise a lot. Ride a bike or walk to school or work instead of drive. Go for a jog instead of watch TV. Or find something you enjoy doing that is physically active, for me it is playing sports..

sex is a good (and fun!) form of exercise as well, there is even something called sexercise where you purposely do difficult positions and other things like that to make your sex more of a workout. Look it up.
Also, don't expect to lose 20 pounds instantly. Losing weight in a healthy manner is a slow process. If you lose 2 pounds a week your doing darn good! Make a plan and stick to it, you can do it!

  23. QUESTION:
Have those cleanse patches made anyone else sick?
I tried the foot detox cleanse patches for several weeks and they made me feel sick all the time. I finally gave up and feel better. They were ridiculously expensive, too. Apparently, I need my toxins. :)

You should read up on them more, they don't work and it is impossible that they could work, I think if your were sick, you were going to be regardless of weather or not you got the foot detox cleansing patches.

  24. QUESTION:
Do detox drinks cleanse your system and take THC out of your bloodstream?
The last time I smoked was about 2 weeks ago, and it was like one bowl. I've smoked about 3 or 4 time this month. I bought a detox drink that I drink an hour before hand. But when I went to the doctors they wanted to have a blood test and urine test. Would the detox drink cleanse my bloodstream as well as the rest of my system? I took the test yesterday, and before the urine test I drank about 1 and half water bottles and peed 2 times. They asked for the Urine but since I couldn't pee they gave me another water bottle to drink. Is that enough to flush it out of my system? Also, the doctor said she was gonna do a blood test for everything, just to see if there were any biological problems, (...) but do you think the thc would pop up on the tests?

    • ANSWER:
The only reliable way to beat a drug test is to not take drugs.

Typically, those detox drinks just temporarily cover up the amount of illicit substances in your urine. They don't actually remove anything. And they are incredibly unreliable. I'm not sure how well they work for blood tests, but I wouldn't expect them to at all.

Stating that you last smoked pot 2 weeks ago doesn't mean anything because it builds up in your body, so that if you smoked regularly before two weeks ago it will take longer to expel from your body than if you only smoked once in your life two weeks ago. As well, it's largely dependent on a bunch of other metabolic factors and there's no way to gauge from this short question.

If they're pulling blood for "biological problems" I wouldn't expect them to test it for drugs, though they could. Doctors don't usually lie, telling you they're doing one thing when they're doing another.

If you want to pass a drug test you have to stop smoking pot.

  25. QUESTION:
What can I do to ease the symptoms of celiac disease?
my wife has celiac disease and she's hasn't been feeling to good. She told me that her stomach hurts really bad and all the time. What could I do or buy her to make her feel good again? I was thinking some type of detox/cleanse for the body.

    • ANSWER:
Is she following a STRICT gluten free diet and are you 100% sure that you are not cross contaminating her/her stuff with any gluten stuff in the house (meaning, you have different cooking utensils, pots, pans, cutting boards, cleaning sponges, etc.). The first step is letting her Gastroenterologist know she is having pain and getting her TTG/antibodies checked to make sure she is 100% gluten free.
If those come out negative, and she has checked to make sure there are no sources of gluten (including makeup, shampoos, lotions, sunblock, etc.) then I would think that things like gerd, ulcers, etc. should be ruled out as well.
Good luck, get her to get her antibodies tested asap! is my best advice, then once it is ruled out that her celiac isn't active, then other things need to be considered..

  26. QUESTION:
Does the lemon detox actually work ?
Does the lemon detox cleanse work? I literally found out about it less than 2 seconds ago, an im pretty entertained at the idea, so please inform me the ingredients on making the drink an if it works an how soon!

    • ANSWER:
      You can forget about it.

"Detox" is short for detoxification and detoxification is a natural process involving your liver and kidneys and there is nothing you can do to effect it. It is impossible to detoxify a human once the toxin is in the blood with the possible exception of kidney dialysis, kelation therapy, and other expensive medical modalities. Currently "detox" is a faddist word, relatively meaningless, and is used to express that which the users cannot otherwise express because of ignorance of because the expression would be patently false.

Detox diets, cleanses, and supplements don't work.

Listen to experts, not a random bunch of strangers of unknown credibility in this and other forums. Here's what the experts have to say about cleanses.

Your body cleanses itself naturally. And cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, alternative and homeopathic colon cleanses etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat and/or toxins. If fat is your problem, you're eventually going to realize that nothing works except a proper diet for life or surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn't changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

Detoxification is a fad and a fantasy only. If you have reason to believe you're toxic, consult with your doctor. Don't waste your time paying attention to advertising hype, naturopathic gurus, homeopathic charlatans, etc. The road to good health is paved with science. If you or someone you love gets deathly ill, you will take them to a place where medical science is practiced. So, where is the sense in abandoning medical science in favor of baseless and unscientific methods of quacks and charlatans.

      Good luck and good health!!

  28. QUESTION:
How can I cleanse my body for a drug test?
I have a week before taking a drug test, haven't done anything too bad. I need some advise on any detox or cleansing technique or supplements I can take. Thx!

    • ANSWER:

  39. QUESTION:
How long will it take chemo drugs to full leave my body?
I recently stop chemotherapy and was wondering how long the drugs would last in my body? Also I was told the best was to detox or cleanse my body would be to drink lots of water, does anyone know of a detox or cleansing routine that would help get these drugs out of my body?

    • ANSWER:
The following links provided may help answer some of your questions:

How long does it take to get chemo, CMF, out of your system?
Answers —Russell Portenoy, M.D.: It is important to distinguish the direct effects of chemotherapy as it circulates in the body from the long-term effect that can continue after the body has eliminated the chemotherapy through normal metabolic pathways. Most chemotherapy is eliminated from the body fairly quickly, and the fatigue that patients experience after treatment is a prolonged effect that continues long after the chemotherapy is gone. A person should not assume that feeling fatigued means that the chemotherapy is still in the body. As we said before, fatigue has many possible causes and the experience of severe fatigue should be evaluated so that these causes can be identified and treated.
Marisa Weiss, M.D., president and founder: Among the many causes of fatigue, there are hormonal influences that can have a significant effect, including your thyroid gland function. In the evaluation for your fatigue, make sure that this is also checked out.

How long does the chemotherapy stay in my body?
A: Not very long. Most agents are completely metabolized and excreted within several hours. The damage sustained by cancer cells from chemotherapy agents, however, may not result in the death of the cell for several days.

Also, on the question of detox, etc., speaking from my own experience (non-cancer) on alternative medicine, a certified and/or qualified health care practitioner (naturopath, integrative M.D.) should be sought if you would like to bring your body back to an enhanced state of health. These people can help you and even with before/after chemo/cancer treatment.
Remember, it should be a qualified clinic with qualified people. Ask an association, etc., in your area concerning this field of medicine... and.... never self-medicate, always, always seek out the advice of those with expertise in their craft. Believe me, I know from experience. Good luck and all the best in health!

    • ANSWER:
tey are best avoided and you have found out they don't work.

      Eat lots of vegetables.
      Lots of vegetables.
      No meat.

Drink broth for a week and then, you can fast.
Make the broth from the vegetables, no meat.

      Good luck.

  45. QUESTION:
Looking for a good detox/cleansing diet plan?
Hi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone knows a good detox or cleansing diet plan i could follow. Nothing too drastic please. I am also planning on working out 3 or 4 times a week while i am on it so i will need energy. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Anyone interested in detoxifying their body might think about paying a little more attention to their body and less attention to the people trying to get their money. The body already has nature's most effective detoxification system. It's called the liver. The liver changes the chemical structure of foreign compounds so they can be filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, which then excrete them in the urine. I am left wondering why the alternative practitioners never mention this option to their customers. It's all-natural and proven effective.
Nutrition experts have warned about the potential dangers of detox diets.

“Your body does a perfectly good job of getting rid of toxins on its own,” says Dr. Nasir Moloo, a gastroenterologist with Capitol Gastroenterology Consultants Medical Group in Sacramento, Calif.

Colon cleansing can increase the risk of dehydration, and in some cases, certain laxatives can raise the body's electrolyte level--a danger to those with kidney disease or heart disease.

Working out, fine. Eat a varied and healthy diet. Let your body do the rest, it's good at it's job.

  46. QUESTION:
How long should I do the saltwater detox/cleanse? Is 2 weeks too long?
I think this the best cleansing combo but I maybe over doing it.

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
The lemon saltwater detox/master cleanse diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose up to 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system. At your current weight it will only be 2 or 3 pounds. So it does work. but it does not change your size.
      Good luck.

  47. QUESTION:
What detox/cleansing can I do after quitting smoking cigarettes?

Why is my skin yellow around my mouth?
I did a Candida diet and cleanse about 1 1/2 Years ago and since then I've had a yellow ring around my mouth! I have done subsequent detox and cleanses. I eat very clean and drink lots of water. I have also had been tested for thyroid and others all is good. I can't even cover it with make up. I am planning to visit a dermatologist. Any help would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:

  50. QUESTION:
Has anyone every tried the Lemon Cayenne Pepper Detox Cleanse? Also known as the master cleanse?
If so is it safe, and what were your experiences on the cleanse, good or bad?

    • ANSWER:
I made it three days and that was all I could take. I WAS hungry and had headaches from lack of food (not from caffeine with-drawl).
I don't think it's healthy. After 10 days you have to slowly work solids back into your diet and they recommend taking a pro-biotic to replace the GOOD bacteria that you've flushed out. That didn't sound healthy to me.
The lemonade was actually tasty but after a day of it I was sick of it. The salt water flush wasn't too bad, if you do it try to get the "Celtic Grey Sea Salt" (more mild) and heat it up hot. Trick your mind into thinking it is Chicken soup broth and try it through a straw. I made myself drink it by counting the swallows during one drink..I tried to get 8 swallows in each time and finished the 32 ounces within 30 minutes (which is fast enough). I also did the Senna Lax Tea at night and had mild cramping. Maddi is wrong when she says you WILL puke, I have a severe phobia to vomit and would have NEVER done it if I thought for one second my stomach couldn't handle it. I didn't puke. The flush DOES work quickly, best to start when you don't have to work. I wouldn't say it's "un-safe" for otherwise healthy people but I don't think it's healthy by any means.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Why did i test positive for everything on a UA after drinking a detox drink?
I bought this detox drink called Puriclean and the instructions on it say to drink the entire bottle and wait 45 minutes for the drink to take full effect. I waited an hour and went to the bathroom 4 or 5 times before I took my UA. I came up positive for literally everything, and I've only been smoking the green... so I my question is, what the hell happened? I would understand if I came up dirty for thc; but opiates, barbiturates, amphetamines, pcp!? I don't get it. could someone please elaborate and explain why I would test dirty for drugs I've never even taken?

    • ANSWER:
      You got ripped off.

      Plain and simple.

  2. QUESTION:
Has anyone used the Puriclean omni detox drink to pass a drug test?
It will be about 15 days since I smoked on the day of the test wondering if it is going to work.

    • ANSWER:
Drink Cranberry juice. It will help you pass the test.

  3. QUESTION:
i havent smoked marijuana for 30 days if i drink puriclean instant detox should i be able to pass a urinalysis?
just wondering about someone elses experience

    • ANSWER:
Now a days most urianlysis labs have what they refered to as a creatine level. If you try to flush your system it shows up as an altered u/a.
If you are a long term regular user 2+ times a week for a year, it will still show on a u/a.
If this by chance is for a probation test most states will then violate you for an attempt to alter and a dirty u/a. If its for a job, they can terminate you or not give you a job. Honesty usually works and TREATMENT is obviously needed.

  4. QUESTION:
    Walmart Drug Test please help?
Hi I have a urinal drug test tomorrow afternoon for a job, I'm already hired, all I need to do is pass the drug test. Although I have smoked marijuana 4 days ago, so I doubt i'd pass. This morning I drank a 16 oz bottle of PuriClean Detox and 2 bottles of water & 4 last night, I also peed like 15 times today. Detox has a 5 hour window that it is effective for, so I don't want to risk my chances of being hired. I was originally going to use Quick Fix Plus synthetic urine but decided not to in case it came out as, "not human." So instead I plan on using a friend around my age's urine & stashing it into a hollowed out maxi pad. What I don't know is, if I should just use a heating pack to keep it at appropriate temperature or microwave it & use the heating pack like the directions with the synthetic pee? Also, I can use advice on whether you think my plan sounds or not, thank you, for the help, & please no dumb answers, thanks!

  5. QUESTION:

    when to drink detox drink?
i have a drug test at 9 tomorrow morning. i bought puriclean instant do i drink it tonight? or before my test?

    • ANSWER:
whenever you like. Of course, it's pretty unliklely it'll actually make a difference, as THC is not water soluble, and most of those drinks work as diuretics (meaning that you release your water)...so you're gonna feel crappy and dehydrated, and still gonna piss dirty. try again next year.

  7. QUESTION:
i failed my preliminary drug screen at the hospital and it was sent to the lab for comfirmation?
i went in to the hospital for a pre employment drug screen yesterday. it was the 11 tier drug screen and all had 2 lines except the thc area. she told me it showed up inconclusive for thc and they had to send it to the lab. yes, i had smoked marijuana recently, but drank a half gallon of cranberry juice, multiple gallons of water, and took a detox called instant puriclean. this detox said to take it 3 hours before your drug test, pee a couple times, and you will be clean for up to 7 hours. i followed all the rules to the detox.

my question is, what are the odds of me still passing the drug test after its sent for confirmation? are i pretty much screwed or are the requirements different for the second run of the test? thanks for any input.

ps, im not interested in hearing "marijuana is illegal and bad" and i dont want comments like that, thanks!

If it was inconclusive and sent away to the lab, it's likely going to show some level of thc in your system, which will mean that you didn't pass your drug test.

Ok so I'm 5'9'' and I weigh 148 pounds and I have a pretty fast metabolism. I smoked heavily 4/20 and maybe half a bowl on 4/21. Before that I had been smoking around 2 times a week for a month.

The week after 4/20 I started drinking water heavily, working out, and taking vitamins and cranberry extract pills. Since then, I have sort of fallen off the whole water drinking thing and working out because I was so busy with finals and stuff.

I have a pre-employment drug test tomorrow. I bought 4 Puriclean Omni Cleansing Caps, and I plan on taking them tomorrow early in the morning with a lot of water. I also plan on drinking water constantly until tomorrow.

Also, I have the option of going to LabCorp or various Urgent Care Facilities. Any advice on which of the options to take?

Should I be worried? It will have been 22 days since I last smoked by the time I take my drug test. ALSO, I took a First Check Home Drug Test this morning (it wasn't my first piss of the day but it was my 3rd) and PASSED. Any advice?

EDIT: It is just a piss test that I'll be taking tomorrow. Also, any advice on how to take the detox pills or how much water/gatorade to drink, etc?? THANK YOU!

    • ANSWER:
I think you'll be fine, babe. i know someone who took a test about 2 weeks after smoking and didn't take all the precautions you have and still passed.

  14. QUESTION:
How do i pass this drug test? Any advise?
Now, I am a medical marijuana patient in my state. i have a bullshit paraphernalia charge and don't want to test dirty so i can ignore confrontation. it is my first pretrial and am uncertain if i will get tested. i have not used in the last 72 hours, although I have used everyday for the last 3 years. i have been taking low doses of niacin, drinking massive amounts of green tea, and just bought a detox drink by the name of "puriclean instant". Any advise? From non smartasses.
btw i do have my doctors rec from the state along with my state issued card.

    • ANSWER:
The detox drink will show up as a masking agent and will be an automatic fail. Excessive Niacin is toxic, so stop that.

time is the only thing that will get the thc out of your system and if you were an everyday smoker, it will be at least 45 days to test clean.
