      I know it's not what you want to hear, but I REALLY would not do it. I did and after one day on it I started getting AWFUL pains in my stomach, worse than labor pains, and I went to the doctor and he said that all the ingredients together are meant to eat away at the buildup in your intestines, and if you're young (under 35) you don't have enough crap build up so it eats away at your intestine lining. I felt like CRAP.

    I am starting the Master Cleanse tomorrow which involves the homemade lemonade and detox system. has anyone tried it? Is it worth it? It seems hard but rewarding. Also, I have dance rehearsals all week so I need to have enough energy to not pass out. Will this be extremely difficult?

    • ANSWER:
      I agree with the last person about waiting. I have just completed it a couple days ago for my 3rd time. I truly do believe the master cleanse works and is safe for most people, people that are generally healthy to begin with. And yes, it's tough.

      From my experience, you will need a good 2 to 2 1/2 hours in the AM after you do the salt water flush to be near a bathroom, trust me on this one! Bowel movements can come out of nowhere! So if you work in the daytime, I would try go in a little late if possible. If you don't do the salt water flush on any day, the morning bathroom runs won't be that bad, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

      As for energy, the first day will be the worst, especially if you regularly drink coffee or regular tea, as you will your body will be going through caffeine withdrawal. You will be tired, and most likely will have a headache for most of the day.

      Day two should be better, but you will still have low energy until about day 4 or 5, until most of the bad stuff has left your body. 1st time doing it, could be up to 7 days until your energy increases.

      Don't forget the cayenne pepper (fresh as you can), this is important.

      The worst part of the cleanse is the salt water flush. If you can deal with that, the rest is a piece of cake, and you also might be dreaming of cake two days in, dreaming of all food, thinking of recipes, basically food will be on your mind constantly.

      Try to stay strong, and you will be glad you accomplished it. Your intestines will thank you for cleaning them out.

      There are a lot of options as far as colon cleansing goes. Some people take part in colon hydrotherapy, which involves actually flushing the colon out with water, pumped in from, well... You get the idea :) If you do decide to go this route, be sure you're working with a qualified professional - it's easy for inexperienced technicians to cause serious damage if they aren't able to control the pressure of the water accurately.

      If this sounds uncomfortable to you (it sure does to me!), there are a lot of supplements and home remedies that people take to help clean and purify the colon. If you choose to go this route, try to find a product or recipe that includes some sort of pro-biotic supplement, since colon cleansing can eliminate the colonies of beneficial bacteria that live in your intestines. If they aren't replaced, you won't be able to process food effectively, which could lead to some serious consequences.     How does an enema medically work in the intestines to relieve poop?

      It doesn't relieve poop. It can stimulate the bowel and/or add moisture to the stool to soften them for an easier passage.

      There are over the counter commercially prepared enemas you can purchase at the pharmacy. A saline (Sodium Phosphate) enema draws moisture from the colon walls into the rectum to serve to soften the stool. A bisacodyl enema is a stimulant which irritates the colon walls to cause a bowel movement. A mineral oil enema is a lubricant which helps a hardened stool pass more easily. A cleansing enema is required after a mineral oil enema or you will be leaking oil for a day or so.

      Then for the serious enema there is the large volume warm water enema taken with a enema bag (or combination hot water bottle/douche/enema syringe) or bulb enema. Those provide the liquid and the stimulation to promote evacuation. There are numerous home made recipes which can be taken with an enema bag or bulb.

    How can you detoxify radiation from your body?
    My mom recently had 9 mammograms and a chest X-ray all within 2 months. The technician had problems inserting the wires for a lumpectomy and repeatedly subjected my mom to mammograms. (He was reading the X-ray results incorrectly). As a result, she had at least 7 mammograms in 1 day, plus the original one in November which revealed the problem, then a density test to confirm the problem. My question is, how can you rid your body of the radiation? I know it is not safe to have that much radiation in a short amount of time.

    Is it OK to wash a cutting board with soap?

    Yes, I meant a wooden cutting board.

      Wash all cutting boards thoroughly after use, incldung the edges. When cutting up different vegetables, so long as they're washed well beforehand (not just rinsed, since raw vegetables have been turning up in stores contaminated with e. coli lately) just wash the cutting board after you're done cutting the vegetables. (If they're for different recipes, you can give the board a quick rinse in between to keep the wrong flavors out of each dish.)

      After cutting hot peppers, you'll need to wash the board with something that can break up capsaicin -- the component of chili peppers that makes them taste like burning -- which isn't water-soluble. Other than soap, the easiest way to get capsaicin off is vinegar. I buy white vinegar by the gallon for kitchen cleaning, since it's also better than soap or even bleach for killing fungus (I live in a humid area where things go moldy quickly). Hard liquor watered down 8:1 also works, but you probably don't want to waste your good hooch that way. Fortunately, with glass or plastic cutting boards, there's no reason not to use soap.

      Always wash your cutting board immediately after cutting meat (including poultry and fish) on it, to prevent transferring any bacteria to other foods and also to keep any bacteria on the board from multiplying. All soap kills bacteria, though, so you don't need special soap for cleanup after preparing most meats.

      (Anti-bacterial soap is formulated to kill more types of bacteria, kinds not typically found in the home.       ...The problem with using strong cleansers on a wooden cutting board is that, because it's absorbent, residue from the soap or bleach can affect the flavor of the next food you cut on it. Yuck. Also never soak your wooden cutting board (or wooden or bamboo utensils -- chopsticks, mixing spoons, wood handles on knives) in water for more than a few minutes, because if moisture soaks in too deeply it can make the wood mildew or even rot from the inside. Fresh lemon is sometimes recommended, but I never use that method for fear lemon juice will spoil or encourage mold. Hydrogen peroxide also works, just never swallow it or use a board you've cleaned with it unless it's dried since.

      A method traditionally used in Japan for cleaning wood cutting boards is to rinse the surface of the board briefly with water and then cover it with salt. (This process can get messy with salt escaping off the edges.) Massage the salt into the board, using circular strokes, for a few minutes, making sure not to miss any spots. Then either run just enough water over the board to rinse the salt off, or scrape the excess off and leave the board to dry if it's already soggy from foods you cut on it, so the salt soaks in and disinfects deep down.

      Some people recommend using only one side of a wood board (or a separate board) for meat, or not cutting meats on a wooden cutting board at all.

      If you're giving a wood cutting board a quick rinse between ingredients, especially if you've just cut some chilies and need to get all the capsaicin off the board so you don't wind up at the ER because some got in your eye, you can get away with using a little soap and plenty of water (tilt the board so the water runs down it without puddling) especially if it's a newer, smoother cutting board. With use, the surface of a wooden cutting board gets rough, making more surface area for things to soak in -- meat, capsaicin, bacteria, soap, water, etc. -- and the harder it is to get that stuff out.

      Wood cutting boards (and other wood or bamboo kitchen utensils) should also be periodically -- every year or two -- "seasoned" by rubbing mineral or coconut oil into them.       A colonic is pretty brutal, but if you decide to do that, find one that does what is called "an open colonic." The only issue with doing a colonic is that you wash out all the good bacterial flora of the intestine and you then have to do an intensive rebuild of that with good probiotics. If you tell me what general area you are located, I can most likely recommend a good practitioner to help you.

      The colon cleanse is really great. It works and if you get the right product, it should be used for about 4 months. It doesn't give you diarrhea or anything like that, but it will cause you to lose about 10 - 15 pounds of old fecal matter. You will also notice that your movements are much larger and easier to move. Your intestines have a very large surface area. In fact, it could cover an entire parking lot!     Been taking the herbal pills for 3 days. I have eaten lots of fruits and veggies along with water. Whats up?

      Wow... This is why I normally recommend against herbal clense pills. They expand in you and they gently rub against your insides and scrub them clean of food that is stuck to your insides. Stuff like gluten, high sugar foods that were heated (like baked or grilled bbq sauce) and fried trans fats stick to you and clog you up. I would ease up on the pills and eat some more foods that will move things along like just the fruits and veggies, olive oil (if you cook w/ it, make sure you never heat it so hot that is smokes!) Choline, and flax seed oil, and veggies such as onions that have been fried or cooked until they are very soft will help. You can keep taking the pills if you want, but I would cut back on the dosage... personally I think that unless you were really clogged up before, you are probably pretty clean by now... In the future, if you want to do a more gentle clense, just cut out gluten (all foods containing wheat, oats, barley and rye), foods with added sugar or sweeteners (fuit or fruit juice w/o added sugar is good), and cut back on starchy foods for a few days and eat more fresh veggies sauted in olive oil. Do this for a day or two and that should do the same thing gently w/o all the bloating, etc. Saurkraut is also great for your small intestines but most ppl dont like the taste. You can try cooking it and flavoring it with spices and mixing it in with a gluten free food like rice, or you might try dishes that contain cooked cabbage. The cabbage is difficult to digest and it goes through you with the same effect as the pills, rubbing your insides to remove stuck on debris but again you should not have bloating problems with cabbage. Try different recipes if you dont like the taste. Good luck.

      Ingredients:
      4 Acorn Squash
      1c Uncooked Short Grain Brown Rice or Millet, or other Grain
      2c Boiling Water for Rice (3c for Millet)
      ¼ c Arame
      ½ cubeFirm Tofu, crumbled
      1 lg Carrot, grated
      1c Green Peas
      3 Scallions, chopped
      2T Tarragon, chopped
      1c Water from cooked Squash
      2T Mellow White Miso, dissolved in water
      1t Quick Sip or Soy Sauce
      2T Tahini
      2T Gomasio or Sesame Shake (Roasted Sesame Seeds)
      1t Paprika

      Directions:

      Squash
      1.Prepare. Cut the top off of the squash below the stems. Scrape out seeds.
      3.Bake. Place Squash in a baking pan, opening down, with 2 cups of water. Cook in a pre-heated 450° oven for 35 minutes, or until almost done, making sure water does not dry out.

      Grain
      1.Roast. If desired, roast grain in a pre-heated iron skillet on medium high until brown and popping, stirring constantly. Remove shortly after the steam starts to rise and the popping slows down, to prevent scorching.
      2.Cook. Add grain to boiling water. Bring water to a boil, turn heat to low, and cooked covered for 45 minutes for rice (30 minutes for millet), or cook in a steamer.

      Stuffing
      1.Cover arame with water and set aside for 2 minutes, drain.
      2.Mix together reconstituted arame, tofu, carrot, green peas, scallions, and cooked grain.

      Sauce
      1.Combine tarragon, 1c water from cooked squash, miso, dissolved in water, Quick Sip, and tahini. Mix into stuffing.

      Method
      1.Stand squash upright in a cooking dish.
      2.Fill squash with the stuffing mixture.
      3.Sprinkle top with Gomasio and paprika.
      4.Bake in oven for 20 minutes, or until heated through.

      Notes
      Roasting grain adds a nutty and crunchy flavor and creates a downward, grounding energy; good in fall and winter. Barley – good for lungs and intestines. Buckwheat – very strengthening. Quinoa – high protein.

      Tofu – provides protein and calcium. Mellow White Miso has a cheese flavor without dairy.

    I am having digestion problems?
    For a little while now i have been experiencing digestive problems. For some reason i don't poop everyday because my body doesn't let me know i have to.       Here is my recipe for the cabbage soup for losing weight.

      roast a chicken, keep the bones and put them in a large pan with a gallon (4 quarts) fwater. I do not use tap water any more for drinking or cooking. I use a Brita Filter Pitcher. you can also buy a filter to attach to your water tap. Boil this for about an hour or so, remove the bones from the pot and now you have the stock to add your veggies too and there is also a bit of the chicken that has come off of the bones I then put that back into the stock.

      You can also add about half a cup of brown rice or pearl barley to the stock and cook until they are done before you add the veggies.

      This is definately a good one for cleansing as well as delicious. I large onion, 1 or 2 cloves of garlic, celery, half a small cabbage shredded, 1 large tin of spiced tomato sauce, greem string beans, add bell peppers if you like, in 2 quarts of filtered or bottled water. (if you do not have chicken, or turkey stock)
      chop every thing the size you desire, add to the water. bring to a boil remove from heat let stand covered for about 5 minutes season with sea salt, pepper and enjoy. This will not overcook the veggies, which you need to eat them as close to raw as possible which is better for you. Over cooking kills the enzymes in them. This will help your digestive system as well as cleanse your intestines and you will lose weight. As well you need to drink at least 8 glasses of good clean filtered or bottled water a day to help flush out the fats as well as toxins etc.and don't forget to get excercise, walking is good, and swimming.

      Do not use carrots as they are too sugary, and no potatoes as they are all starch and sugar.

    Master Cleanse Question? Please help!!?
    I have decided to do the master cleanse to cleanse out my body. I have heard good things about it from people I know and it only lasts 10 days so I don't see the problem with trying it out. However, I do not like anything spicy so I have chosen to use the Cayenne Pepper Capsules instead. Does anyone know how many capsules I should be taking in a day? The Master Cleanse recipe says use 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper per glass of lemonade, but the capsules are measured in mg. Each capsule has 450mg. Does anyone know how many mg are in a teaspoon? Please help :) Thanks!!!!

      1 teaspoon has 2 grams, so 1/10 would be 200 milligrams. So, the answer is 2 capsules.

      I would suggest that, in addition to the cayenne pepper, when you're through with the cleansing, get some probiotics and make your intestine as healthy as you can. Limit the carb intake to high quality, natural foods. They have a better nutrient to Calorie ratio than processed foods and will ensure that your gut stays as healthy as possible. Very important in this day and age with all the crap that is in most processed foods.

      Citrus fruit in general and to a certain extent mandarins, are acidic. Eating mandarins neutralises the alkali's and other poisons in your system and is good for you. It also tends to go straight through as it has a cleansing effect on your intestines.

      I suspect that you mum doesn't want you up in the night going to the toilet because you have been eating mandarins late in the evening. Have one for morning break or lunch if you are at school. They are great. I love them. They have the same vitamin C as oranges and help resist colds, flu and other infections. Eating mandarins earlier in the day means that if they are going to go through you they will have done so my bed time.

    aloe vera juice
    bentonite clay
    powdered Vit C
    Psyllium husks
    Flax/linseeds

    Made into a drink that you had 4 x daily

    I can't remember if this is all the ingredients and in what quantities?

      That's a pretty good recipe. 4x/day seems a bit much, but I might throw in an occasional magnesium citrate flush in there and eat a clean diet free of wheat and dairy. I run detox programs with my patients and my program lasts 3 weeks. The short 2-3 day ones are too harsh and they don't address phase two of detoxing. I like your use of bentonite and psyllium. Aloe is very healing to the lining of the intestines too..

      Cleaning yourself out once in a while is good for you and prevents the caking on of feces to the walls of your bowel (yuk)...It's when that caked on crap ferments for years and eventually becomes cancerous...

      You don't actually lose any weight from a "colon cleansing." Dry weight, anyhow. You may see a temporary dip in weight as you lose water weight from the diarrhea, but nothing has actually changed. All that's changed is that you have paid someone to give you an enema and had a particularly wicked case of diarrhea.

      You see, the entire "science" behind "colon cleansing" is inaccurate to begin with. Your colon doesn't have "built-up" feces that are "stuck in it," things move through as a result of intestinal contractions (it's like a long, muscular tube." If fecal matter had in fact become stuck, you wouldn't be having that conversation - you would be hospitalized. You see, this is a condition that goes by many names - the most well known of which is diverticulitis. Muscular weakening of the colonic wall, as a result of consuming inadequate dietary fiber, causes ballooning out of the tissue, which can form pockets that trap feces. This isn't really a problem, a high-fiber diet keeps things moving through, but if someone doesn't eat enough fiber it can cause infection that can spread body-wide in short time. Colitis is also an infection of the colon, typically resulting in incredibly watery stool that can also eventually result in death - particularly in the elderly.

      The people who peddle this kind of quackery like to say that your body is "detoxifying itself," but there is zero scientific evidence to show that filling your large intestine with water is somehow going to draw out "toxins" faster - as if are even toxins to be drawn out. Most substances in the body have what is called a half-life, and there is very little you can do to speed it up. If you can, you can bet that having diarrhea isn't one of them. At the very best colonics are worthless treatments that do nothing. At the very worst, they cause serious harm.

      So save your money and focus on the recipe for weight loss that has been constant for the last hundred or more years. Eat less, and move more (with the emphasis on the former).
