    • ANSWER:
      There is no such thing as a liver detox.
      The only thing we can do is avoid as much processed and refined food as possible, cut back on drugs legal or otherwise, and stop getting "hammered" twice a week.
      Look up cirrhosis and see what you are up to.

    Has anyone tried the lemon juice detox and be successful?
    I recently stumbled upon the lemon juice detox diet on the livestrong website. I am currently doing a cleanse and after I am done with the pills for this one, I want to try out the lemon juice detox. I know its just a quick fix, but It will jump start my diet as I have 30lbs to lose (or more)!

    • ANSWER:
      Nothing with the words "cleanse" or "detox" should be taken very seriously as a proven method of weight loss or weight management. While many people make outrageous claims about the efficacy of these programs, there is no backing in medical science to prove these claims.

      The liver NATURALLY cleans the system daily -- that's what it does. The major component in all of these "cleansing" testimonials is that the people have cleaned up their diet in conjunction with these "detox" programs.

      That, by nature of pure logic, will of course work. If you have a filtration system that's working daily, and you stop adding more sludge, then naturally, the end product will be cleaner and the filter won't have to work so hard once all the dirt and grime is gone from the source.

      Cleanse/detox diets work more as a placebo for the participant, a tangible sign of committing to eating more natural foods, learning how to cook at home, and avoiding boxed frozen meals, fast food, and questionable cafeteria insta-meals.

      Learning to cook and shop for natural ingredients (meaning fresh veggies that you cut up and put into your dishes yourself instead of opening a box of dried mix) will do the same thing, but without the alt-med lifestyle required.

      The downside of "cleanse/detox" is that they often unnecessarily restrict certain components of a healthy diet, so while it may aid in removing the garbage from your system by mere virtue of not adding more, it also tends to prevent the intake of necessary nutrients, like protein and healthy dietary fats. They also cite ancient Asian lifestyles but completely misinterpret and misrepresent an actual Asian diet as well as the reasons why.

      Miso soup is not a complete dinner for a Japanese household, and it never was. Ancient Asian populations were also wracked with poverty and constant civil war, so if there was a dietary restriction back then, it was due to necessity, not out of choice. Neither is green tea.

      A sensible, balanced diet with all things in moderation may not be as much fun or exciting, but it's what works.

      Don't get caught up in the different "types" of detox. There is just one, and it's about changing your diet and a few associated habits.

      Generally, you want to do it for at least 6 weeks. You can do it just with the diet change, or you can buy supplements to help the process - Metagenics have a great program, but it costs 0-0.

      If you do it properly, then the effects will last a good year or more.

      To do it all on your own, you can get the books by Dr Sandra Cabot - The Liver Cleansing Diet + Liver and Bowel Cleansing. These are the two organs most responsible for removing toxins from your body. The books are great and include plenty of recipes to help you change your diet.

      Simplistically, you are removing wheat, dairy, caffeine, alcohol and a few other highly foods with a lot of toxins from your diet.

      On average, people lose approx. 22 pounds (because your body uses fat to store an excess of toxins), your skin loves it, and you will feel more energetic. Email me if you want more info.

      I've been reading some stuff from this guy Jon Barron (www.jonbarron.org), anyway, he's got great info on some great detox's. The more I read from him and other places, the more I agree with what he says...anyway, juice fasts are great...this guy recommends drinking the healthiest (not bottled or canned) juice you can find, drinking 8 oz. every hour your awake for 3-7 days. I wouldn't just drink water, it will screw your metabolism up. Also, this guy talks about a colon and then later a gaul blatter/liver detox if you want to spend the money. Your body will heal quickly, so eat well and do some investigating about the best thing for YOU!

    What's a natural good way to detox your body?
    I'm starting a new work out system next week and want to detox but without the outrageous expensive pills that usually make you sick to your stomach.

    • ANSWER:
      If you are open to alternative health methods, I have had success with a 1) vegetable juice fast (inexpensive), a 2) liver detox (fairly inexpensive, some supplements involved), and 3) detox pads (on the more expensive side).

      1) If you have access to a juicer, celery is great to juice for detox. I've used the following combination to great effect (celery, garlic clove, lemon, cayenne pepper, salt to taste). In my experience, 2-4 weeks max without solids without becoming extremely depleted.

      2) Dr Hulda Clark's (controversial figure due to some pretty aggressive claims) liver cleanse. Although I think some of her materials are hard to believe, I've had great results with her liver detox (she publishes it for free on her site). There are some supplements involved, but fairly inexpensive, and you don't have to buy them from her. The cool thing is, at the end you will pass stones from your liver, and feel amazing for about a week.

      3) Detox foot pads - there is quite a bit of skepticism on whether these work. You wear them on your feet and toxins come out onto the pads.. I'm not sure if it's not just the herbs changing colors (they claim to test them), but they are doing something, as I sleep great with them.

      Several years ago I did a hair analysis test, then did the combination above for 2 months, and a second hair analysis that showed a significant decreases in toxic levels (especially aluminum, mercury, & pcb's).

    Liver and Gallbladder flush:What time of the next day should the stones be passed?
    Has anybody done the grapefruit and olive oil liver flush? I did it last night (followed by two cups of Epsom Salt this morning at 6 and 8 am). I have had many bowl movements from morning and still no stones passed (it is noon now). Some thing wrong?When are they supposed to pass? I also don't feel tired or nausea.

    • ANSWER:
      You should have noticed some, especially little white balls of chaff, but it's not wrong. Either you're healthy or very clogged up. You may need to do a detox diet for a week or so before doing another flush - a juice fast is the most effective; fresh, not from a carton - and then repeat the flush every two or three weeks. Detoxing is a process, not a one-off quick fix.

      I didn't feel tired, nauseous or much different the next day and I've done 5 of these now, so don't worry too much about "should bes".

    What is the best and most natural method for a detox?
    I am doing some research on detox and various ways of going about it. I am looking for natural, organic methods of detox. My questions are, have you detoxed before? How long is the process? What does it do exactly? What are the outcomes? Do you think it's healthy and how often should it be done?

    • ANSWER:
      A herb called milkthistle is a natural way to clean out toxins from your liver, etc & it's a gentle way to do it. I used a product called Legalon I think, which was basically milkthistle in tablet form. I guess maybe doing this once or twice a year until the box or bottle is finished.

      I've also tried the drastic product called Colozone. It's very high in magnesium & you take it every night for 7 days & it flushes out your system just like a colonic. It's pretty drastic though, like every morning you have to run to the toilet because it all comes out like liquid diarrhea! It sure did work for cleaning out your system (you should only do this once per year) but it was quite an experience.

      Also psyillium husks are good for intestinal cleansing. It's a powder you put in orange juice & drink everyday, it's basically a gentle fibre & very good for your system, particularly if you tend to not have muesli or anything like that for breakfast. It basically just keeps you having a regular daily bowel movement. It's also very inexpensive & you can get it at your health store. Doctors often recommend it for people who don't consume enough fibre in their diet & maybe get constipated sometimes or aren't having a bowel movement every day.

      A product called HMD heavy metal detox is the best on the market for using if you think you are overloaded with chemicals from things like hair dye you've been using or maybe you've been doing something around chemicals like painting your house or something. It's quite expensive though & not worth it unless you think you're sensitive to chemicals. Also anti perspirants are bad re the chemicals they release into your body (like aluminium cholorhydrate) & you should only use ones with natural ingredients (although it can be a search to find one that actually stops the smell of sweat - I've only managed to find one - it's called Spring Fresh deoderant by Natures Gate in California). Try googling it to buy online if it's not available locally.

      How do I know all this? Trial & error & my naturopath has recommended all this to me & she knows all the good brands (as some are bad quality). So there you go, I've spend a few hundred dollars at my naturopath to find all this out & now you have the same info for free!

    What is the proper way to do a juice fast?
    I bought a juicer and plan on doing a fresh juice fast at least once a month, but not sure how to get started, do I drink juice every 4 hours along with water?

    • ANSWER:
      I have done many juice/water fasts. It is important to first prep your body before the fast. For at least 1-2 weeks eat no white flour products, fast food, junk food, snacks,soda, alcohol etc. eat only fresh fruits, veggies, drink 8-10 glasses of purified or spring water, brown rice, fish (no shrimp, lobster or crab) I recommend salmon and halibut, seeds and nuts. This prepares your liver and kidneys for the detox~as well as it prepares you mentally and spiritually.

      I think it is important to limit your fruit drinks~lots of sugar. for breakfast it is good to juice strawberries, apple and another fruit.
      My favorite is strawberry and pineapple. You can dilute with a little water.

      lunch and dinner it is very healhy to juice veggies. Use carrots for each one. You can do an all carrot juice~very good for you!

      if you want another fruit drink~best to have it after lunch not after dinner. I like making lemonade. 5 apples, 1/2 lemon and a little water

      I really enjoy making tomato soup. juice one clove of garlic, 3 large tomatoes, carrot, celery and whatever else you would like to add. then slowly warm up on stove. Do not make it hot, hot, just warm it as to not lose it's vitamins etc.

      remember, drink 8-10 glasses of water each day! Enjoy your fast~you will reap many good benefits. One last thing~when breaking your fast, break it with watermelon. work you way back to eating. do not hurt yourself. for the first 2 days eat fruit and carrots. may eat organic yogurt on second day. 3rd day~ low sodium or no salt organic soups and so forth.

    Ive decided on saturday i am going to detox my body before starting loosing weight. I want to do this so my body can be fresh and get rid of all the bad stuff i have been eating recently.       I, for one, believe wholeheartedly in detox. But, only in the proper way otherwise it may make matters worse. Many folks assume that the body is quite capable of ridding itself of the plethora of "junk" it comes in contact with and come out smelling like roses - that's just plain ludicrous. Yes, the Supreme Being did create a wondrous marvel, our body, as we are designed with organs and systems (colon, liver, kidneys, bladder, lymph and skin) that work around the clock to rid the body of "toxins" (cellular waste, digestive waste, foreign proteins, heavy metals, etc.) that occur due to what we eat, drink, breathe, put on our skin and even from the stresses of our daily lives. Problems will and do arise when our organs/systems are overloaded with work, impeding proper function and elimination. Essentially, If our bodies could handle all of this, there would be no sickness and disease, point blank!

      When we feel below par or have symptoms of dis-ease, we are experiencing the effects of the build-up of toxins. This is another name for "acidosis" of the body. And, this is what needs to be addressed and reversed through a proper detox. Most people get it wrong when they think to "purge" the body of toxins with the many detox diets, programs or pills out in the marketplace that may do more harm than good. What needs to be done and is the real meaning of detox - Alkalize! This is the golden key that opens the door to health and vitality.

      Here's what happens: Acidosis causes obstructions in either one or more of the 3 energy flows of the body - blood, nerve and lymph. Looking at the lymphatic system (which is the main system that is stressed), lymph fluid should be free flowing towards the kidneys that should filter out the acids. So, the solution to this inability to rid of something foreign in the body (obstructions) is to strengthen the cells so that they may perform this task of elimination optimally. Now, there are instances that a very "constipated" organ/system needs a little nudge and this nudge should be gotten through a natural means and for a short length of time, such as with the use of herbs - an alkalizing means…. not with chemicals that are acid-forming, making matters worse.

      Drinking tons of water to "flush" is not an advisable approach to detox. This is because, if you're acidic, your body will retain water as it tries to "put out the fire" of acidosis and bloating is experienced in most cases (and especially since most of the water people drink is acidic!) This approach holds no water (pun intended) since when you release your bladder, it is usually clear after drinking lots of water. The fact is, if your kidneys are filtering the lymph optimally, you would have cloudy and flakey pee.

      In essence, your diet should be your detox! A detox diet should include 80% (total calories) raw fruits or freshly-made fruit juices, 10 - 15% greens and 5 - 10% essential fatty acids. Meat, dairy products and even grain products hinder the natural detoxifying processes and should be totally avoided. They are acid-forming or congesting in the body. If your body is very acidic (sick and diseased) adding tissue-specific herbs or herbal formulas are a great plus. Even animals in the wild know which herbs to consume when they feel below par! By following this way of healthy eating, your body's elimination systems will be able to function optimally! Detoxing any other way sets you up for failure since it's most likely not an alkalizing protocol.

      The best (and easiest and cheapest!) thing you can do is to eat a diet of at least 75% raw foods. (Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fresh juices, lots of filtered water.)

      Keep the colon clean to facilitate toxin elimination from the liver: Eating plenty of raw fibrous vegetables, like carrots, celery and cauliflower, will sweep out your colon nicely.

      Foods high in Vitamin K (leafy greens, alfalfa sprouts) are especially beneficial.

      Eat plenty of raw almonds, Brazil nuts, coconut, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds. These contain arginine, an amino acid which helps to detoxify ammonia, a by-product of protein digestion which accumulates in the liver.

      For a week or so before your three day detox diet, prepare your body for the diet by eliminating alcohol and caffeine from your diet. Limit or eliminate your intake of "junk food," sugar, and red meat. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

      During the 3 day detox diet, drink nothing but filtered water. If you like, you can add a little fresh-squeezed organic lemon juice to the water. This will help flush the toxins out of your system. Eat light meals of steamed vegetables, fresh organic fruit, and a little brown rice.

      Do some moderate exercise during your detox diet. It will improve your circulation, helping the toxins to leave your body, and sweating will help flush toxins from your body. Make sure to drink plenty of water so you stay well hydrated, though.

      Following the three day detox diet, don't rush out to McDonald's. Eat lightly for the next several days. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Soups are good. Continue to drink at least ten glasses of water each day.

      There is a method of detoxing the colon that has worked for centuries and was used extensively by many ancient healers. To detox the body, you need to be more specific about what organs, etc. Detoxing is a very good way of relieving the toxic build up that happens in our modern society. The method is called the SALT FLUSH. I have personally experienced this and it is quite effective. I recommend this to people getting a liver/gallbladder flush to free the colon of toxins prior to the dumping of gallbladder stones from the gallbladder and intrahepatic gallstones from the liver. This takes typically 1 to 2 hours. Make a solution of 2 teaspoons of AIR DRIED SEA SALT, not typical table salt in 1 quart of distilled water. Drink it down first thing in the morning. Then lie on your RIGHT side in bed for about 1/2 hour. You will hear some gurgling sounds, but not to worry, it's just working its magic.       Those detox flushes will not cure acne, nor will changing your diet. Diet has been shown to have little or no effect on acne.

And sugars in juices will strengthen the heart... juice fasting is, therefore, the best form of fasting. " Vitamins, minerals, enzymes and trace elements in fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juices are extremely beneficial in normalising all the body processes. They supply essential elements for the body’s own healing activity and cell regeneration and thus speeding the recovery. All juices should be prepared from fresh fruit immediately before drinking. Canned or frozen juices should not be used.

      A precautionary measure which must be observed in all cases of fasting is the complete emptying of the bowels at the beginning of the fast by enema so that the patient is not bothered by gas or decomposing matter formed from the excrements remaining in the body. Enemas should be administered at least every alternate day during the fasting period. The patient should get as much fresh air as possible and should drink plain lukewarm water when thirsty. Fresh juices may be diluted with pure water. The total liquid intake should be approximately six to eight glasses.

      A lot of energy is spent during the fast in the process of eliminating accumulated poisons and toxic waste materials. It is, therefore, of utmost importance that the patients get as much physical rest and mental relaxation as possible during the fast. In cases of fasts in which fruit juices are taken, especially when fresh grapes, oranges or grapefruit are used exclusively, the toxic wastes enter the blood -stream rapidly, resulting in an overload of toxic matter, which affects normal bodily functions. This often results in dizzy spells, followed by diarrhoea and vomiting. If this physical reaction persists, it is advisable to discontinue the fast and take cooked vegetables containing adequate roughage such as spinach and beets until the body functioning returns to normal.

      The overweight person finds it much easier to go without food. Loss of weight causes no fear and the patient’s attitude makes fasting almost a pleasure. The first day’s hunger pangs are perhaps the most difficult to bear. The craving for food will, however, gradually decrease as the fast progresses. Seriously sick persons have no desire for food and fasting comes naturally to them. The simple rule is to stop eating until the appetite returns or until one feels completely well.

      Only very simple exercises like short walks may be undertaken during the fast. A warm water or neutral bath may be taken during the period. Cold baths are not advisable. Sun and air baths should be taken daily. Fasting sometimes produces a state of sleeplessness which can be overcome by a warm tub bath, hot water bottles at the feet and by drinking one or two glasses of hot water.

      Benefits: There are several benefit of fasting. During a long fast, the body feeds upon its reserves. Being deprived of needed nutrients, particularly of protein and fats, it will burn and digest its own tissues by the process of autolysis or self-digestion. But it will not do so indiscriminately. The body will first decompose and burn those cells and tissues which are diseased, damaged, aged or dead. The essential tissues and vital organs, the glands, the nervous system and the brain are not damaged or digested in fasting. Here lies the secret of the effectiveness of fasting as a curative and rejuvenative method. During fasting, the building of new and healthy cells are speeded up by the amino acids released from the diseased cells. The capacity of the eliminative organs, that is, lungs, liver, kidneys, and the skin is greatly increased, as they are relieved of the usual burden of digesting food and eliminating the resultant wastes. They are, therefore, able to quickly expel old accumulated wastes and toxins.

      Fasting affords a physiological rest to the digestive, assimilative and protective organs. As a result, the digestion of food and the utilisation of nutrients is greatly improved after fasting. The fast also exerts a normalising, stablising, and rejuvenating effect on all the vital physiological, nervous and mental functions.

      Breaking of Fast: The success of the fast depends largely on how it is broken. his is the most significant phase. The main rules for breaking the fast are: do not overeat, eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly; and take several days for the gradual change to the normal diet. If the transition to eating solid foods is carefully planned, there will be no discomfort or damage. The patient should also continue to take rest during the transition period. The right food after a fast is as important and decisive for proper results as the fast itself.

      I work in a drug/alcohol rehab clinic and I've watched people try all sorts of things to pass the tests we have to carry out on a daily basis.

      While it is true that the body has within it the means to remove toxins held in areas within it, ... the enormous onslaught of toxins which the body is exposed to in the modern world we live in, is extremely un-natural and the body is not designed to contend with such toxic assault on what amounts to a continuous basis.

      As well, the fact that many today do not eat a truly healthy diet and practice regular exercise etc, ... also does not support the body in cleansing itself of toxins which it accumulates over time. ..... A true detoxification process is one that supports the body in doing what it already knows how to do with respect to cleansing itself of toxins.

      There are specific herbal combinations which will gently support the liver and kidneys and colon etc. in cleansing the body of built up toxins. ...... Properly applied juice fasting is another natural tool that can be utilized towards supporting the body in eliminating toxins.

      I'm sorry to be a downer, but the alternative medicine claims that your body needs "detox" are false. Your liver is incredibly efficient at removing things that shouldn't be there. You don't need anything special to remove things.

      Drink lots of water. You don't need to drink aloe juice, and colon cleansing can be dangerous to the bacterial flora in your intestines. I wouldn't recommend it.

      You should see a dermatologist if you want to help clear your skin up. I went through about 15 prescription medicines that did nothing until I got Accutane, which worked perfectly. Each person is a little different.

      The main thing about detoxing is to eat only natural foods (Such as vegies, fruit and nuts etc.)

      This means no processed foods, bread, cereals and meats. You are also not to smoke for the duration of the detox. (Even better give up completely)

      You need to cut out all alcohol, softdrink, juices, tea and coffee. (You can drink green tea though).
      There are many different detox programs you can follow, 2 days, 4 days, 1 week, 2 weeks. The easiest to do is the 2 day detox.

      You may find you get a headache during the detox as your body is eliminating toxins. You shouldn't really have any panadol or asprin (But if you really need it...?) It is relaxing to have a epson salt bath, but make sure the water is not too hot or you will feel faint.

      * You should use a loafah everyday before a shower/bath using circular motions towards your heart.
      * Drink lots of water - Carry a bottle of water and sip throughout the day.
      * Start the morning with a lemon wedge/slice in a glass of warm water (It helps kickstart your liver)

      Whichever one you decide to do, at least 3 days before (recommended a week) try and cut out meat and/or dairy from your diet. It takes a lot for the stomach to digest these types of foods, so by taking this away is a helpful jump-start for you digestive system, and to get your tastebuds used to new foods. A day or two before I'd go strictly to raw foods.. cut out all processed stuff, this will help with your system as well. It has already started to undergo the cleansing process before you've even started! How cool is that?
      I'm not sure about the order or master cleanse/juice fast... I don't think it will really matter. Never thought about doing them back to back... I'd suggest the master cleanse first, since it is meant to clean out your entire system. The whole point of the cleanse is to "detox" your body from all the junk we've put into it over the years (do you know that we can hold up to 7 lbs of unnecessary build-up in our colon? We've got build-up everywhere, our intenstines, our livers, etc)... so I'd cleanse first. Then I'd reintroduce the body with good, whole foods... cue the juice fast. So now your body's all clean, you'd only want to put good things into it. Your tastebuds will have already changed, and sweet/salty/processed foods won't seem as appetizing. The juice would mainly serve as a stepping stone into a healthy lifestyle! (Note: when you do come off the fast, don't opt for that cheeseburger you've been jonesing for... your stomach will NOT know what to do with it! So not only will you have serious indigestion, it will be a huge step backward into what you've been trying to remedy in the first place!) After the juice fast, introduce healthy, raw foods again for the first day or two (depends on how long you're doing this fast), and then add in a food group each subsequent day (meat, dairy, etc.).
      Yes, that's the order I'd do it. Cleanse, reintroduce... and when you're up for it... a water fast. (But please: save the water fast for down the line. Your body needs to recover and get back to proper function!)

      I like the old fashion mixture of apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon, cayenne, and water. mix a gallon in these parts and drink every day for 1 week.

      3/4 gal. water
      3 tbsp. Honey
      dash of cayenne
      fill the rest of the gallon with the apple cider vinegar

      It is good for detox and boosts metabolism. I would recommend a mostly vegan diet during this time. Use a lot of nuts or natural nut butter for protein. Grains in the morning, peanut butter at lunch, salads for dinner. Fruit and vegetables for snacks. I do this twice per year for detox and also recommend it to my patients.     Is there a way to heal and detox your liver?
    I recently have been injured and was prescribed Vicodin for pain. I took those for about a week and a half. I now know that all the Tylenol in the Vicodin doesn't do much good to my liver. Is there a way to know if I did any serious damage to my liver? Any signs? Also if I did are there any remedies that will heal and detox it? Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

      I rarely answer seriously, but I will for this one. Milk Thistle is great. Aloe Vera juice. And yes, coffee, two to three cups a day. Make sure you follow the directions on the milk thistle. Good luck.

    What is a good Detox diet for an ectomorph body type?
    I am 20 years old and have been having digestion problems and a few health problem. Yes, I have seen a doctor about it and everything seems to have rational and easily fixed by medication. It was suggested to me that I do a detox diet just to try to clear out some of the bad stuff in my system. But its hard trying to find a diet I can actually do.

    I am about 5'1" and 105lbs. I have a naturally high metabolism and physically need protein though out the day and sustenance or I become ill, light headed, nauseous and irritable. I want to find a detox diet that won't require me to just drink a veggie/fruit juice. My body can't handle just those in a day.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

      If you had a high metabolism, you would have a host of symptoms and be under the care of an endocrinologist. If you're lean, it's your genetics...minimal adipocytes.

      If your doctor suggested the detox diet, you need a new doctor. You have some bad information for a 20 year old. You should get some books at the library and study. Don't try to learn from the internet.

      "Detox" is short for detoxification and detoxification is a natural process involving your liver and kidneys and there is nothing you can do to effect it. It is impossible to detoxify a human once the toxin is in the blood with the possible exception of kidney dialysis, kelation therapy, and other expensive medical modalities. Currently "detox" is a faddist word, relatively meaningless, and is used to express that which the users cannot otherwise express because of ignorance or because the expression would be patently false.

      Detox diets, cleanses, and supplements don't work. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don't work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

Are there any dangers to feeding my cat nothing but fruit and vegetable juice for 72 hours?

      If your cat is on a high quality commercial diet, it doesn't need a cleanse.
      Cats are carnivores. They can't properly digest a large amount of vegetables or fruit. Cats are very prone to ketoacidosis. This is a potentially life threatening condition. When a cat in on an unhealthy diet, their body will start breaking down muscle and organ tissue and when those are broken down for nutrition, they produce an overabundance of ketones. At high concentrations, ketones make your blood acidic and cause massive kidney and liver problems. Cats can very easily develop this from a sudden change in diet.
      If you want to do the cleanse, feel free, but don't subject your cat to it. It's just not healthy and you would spend a ton of time fighting with him to get him to drink juice.

      You take 12 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
      12 tablespoons grade B maple syrup
      1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
      60oz. water.
      Mix them together and only drink it every day, dont eat or drink anything else for three days and it will definitly cleanse your whole body. You will feel so much better, and your body will thank you.

    How long is too long for an all liquid diet?
    I want to lose weight fast for an upcoming class reunion and I was just wanting to get some opinions of liquid diets. I had jaw reconstructive surgery a couple of years ago and was on an all liquid diet for 2-3 weeks because I couldn't open my mouth, much less chew anything and in which time I lost around 25 lbs. I ate lots of tomato soup and drank lots of apple juice threw a syringe. If I tried to do this again, is it good for a longer term diet? Say a few months? I wouldn't be just drinking juice or water I would incorporate some soups and broths...

      You see, the point of fasting is to "detox"--you're removing all the toxins in your body because you are giving your body a break from digesting. (I don't remember where I read this, but somewhere it said that when we eat, our body puts digesting as its first priority, and will abandon whatever else it was doing. It will store it away to "save for later." However, often they never get to later, because we keep putting stuff if!) By giving it a break, our body has the time and capability to clean out all the "bad stuff" from our liver, colon, kidneys, etc.

      When you have a piece of chicken, or a sandwich, or a hard boiled egg, you're just undoing the whole purpose of the fast. You're kind of either going to do it or not. Don't worry about nutrition deficiency, you'll be fine with how long you're doing it (I would recommend anywhere from 3-7 days the first time, and then 10-14 days another time down the road, should you decide. This is adequate time without doing harm to your body. I think 7 is a good time to shoot for.)

      But *your* liquid diet isn't that good for you. Caffeine is full of acid, and dehydrates the body. Broths are FULL of sodium, which just retains water/leads to bloating. If you are to do a liquid diet (better than a water fast), do 100% fruit juice (meaning no added sweeteners; if you have a juicer juice away, it's even better!) and water it down so you don't get as many sugars as normal. And, of course, water. But please, no coffee, it's terrible for a fast!

    This is just temporary.. I ate a lot of junk food recently, I stopped drinking fizzy drinks for over a month and then had 2 last weekend, and a lot of food. I want to do a liquid detox.. not to lose weight, just to cleanse my body.. I was thinking just water, cucumber juice, home made soups and smoothies, or just water and cucumber juice.       I am not sure but Cranberry juice is a very good drink to drink. It helps to clean out the body.

      What Is Detoxification?

      Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body using our organs such as our heart, liver, intestines, lungs or through our pores by sweat. Many of these toxins or poisons come from our diet, drug use, and environmental exposure, Because of the development of chemicals and the use of them in our everyday lives, people living in this century are being exposed to toxins that our ancestors never witnessed. Over the last century chemicals have crept into our environment. Toxins are in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink and inevitably accumulate in the body. This overload of toxins on our system is detrimental to internal bodily processes.

      With most people now leading very busy lives they turn to food that has been highly processed. Food manufacturers are using chemicals to preserve foods longer and putting more emphasis on packaging but this process often results in the loss of nutrients in the food. The quality of the processed food many people eat has greatly declined over the past 50 years due to these factors. If the body is deprived of quality food over long periods of time, this often leads to chronic illness and diseases. Our bodies are made up of highly sophisticated organs, but if they are deprived of quality fuel, they eventually cease to function properly.

      Not only should we worry about external factors, but also our bodies are also capable of producing toxins internally. Internally, fats, especially oxidized fats and cholesterol, free radicals, and other irritating molecules act as toxins. A body that is not fit leads to breaks down in its functionality and as a result this leads to poor digestion, colon sluggishness and dysfunction, reduced liver function, and poor elimination through the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all add to increased toxicity.

      Detoxification involves dietary and lifestyle changes that reduce intake of toxins and improve elimination. Avoidance of chemicals, from food or other sources, refined food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and many drugs helps minimize the toxin load. Buying and using organic foods will also greatly reduce the intake of toxins to the body. Drinking extra water (purified) and increasing fiber by including more fruits and vegetables in the diet are initial steps in the detoxification process.

      The Detoxification Organs
      There are five organs that are considered the detoxification organs. They are the lungs, kidneys, colon, liver, and our skin.

      Most of the nutrients your body needs are absorbed through the walls of the colon. One of the functions of the colon is to squeeze the nutrients out and discard the waste. The colon is considered the most important organ in cleansing the body. If the colon is not functioning properly or regularly toxins remain in our body, plaque can build up on the walls of the intestine which normally leads to constipation and deterioration in the absorption of nutrients into the body. Colon cleansing is one of the most popular treatments in most Detox centers. Although it is a practice that has been done for thousands of years the procedure became increasingly popular in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Now colon cleanings is normally done with hydrotherapy which is completely natural without the use of chemicals or drugs. One treatment will greatly improve the condition of the colon; but for optimal results it is suggested that the therapy is repeated three times.

      The lungs emphasize the importance of air quality in our lives. The lungs aid the body in detoxification by expelling metabolic wastes that build up in basic metabolic functions. The most widely recognized is carbon dioxide, which is removed from the blood and expelled through the breath. In addition, the lungs transform toxins into water-soluble forms that can be processed by other systems in the body. By trying to reduce the amount of toxins that our lungs are exposed to like cigarette smoke and polluted air we reduce the stress that is placed on the lungs. This is especially a conern in the major metropolitan centers of Indonesia where air pollution is at a critical stage.

      I think I heard long time ago as teen that eating poisonous mushrooms can cause irreversible damage.

      For cleansing, you can ask doctor to check your liver---enzymes---blood levels, especially if you're on prescribed meds. known to cause damage (I think all meds, pesticided foods, synthetic drinks, and herbs do something or other to body---you have to choose which is better to do--the disease without the med or the med that cause other condition). If the doctor finds something, he can help you.
      For at home practice, you can try fasting, water fast or juice fast. There are many books and websites on this subject, and you do not need to fast very long each time you fast, just 24 hours and up. Drinking a little water can help clean the body by diluting toxins and replace fluids. Just don't drink too much all at once or you get sick too. Even too much water too fast can make you very sick--to death. Also fasts can be dangerous because of the toxins building up and coming out of the body that are being expulsed, but the longer fasts can make you feel better when toxin symptoms go away. I urge you to do research study on this before you do or just do for a few days only and not very often. And ask people who have done safely before.
      The liver can regenerate itself, and you can look that up too. If you have the money and believe in this being o.k. within your religion, you can do liver tissue donation for self later. If not, and you have concern for liver damage and toxins, try not to eat or take things that damage it, eat and drink healthy.
