      It is very normal to plateau during stages of weight loss, and very disheartening! Just keep up your commitment. Things that help include lemon juice in warm-hot water every morning (like a shower on the inside) - for the first week just have one large glass of hot water with the juice of up to half a lemon (or lime - not orange) first thing. then if you can, go for a walk. Follow with a vegetable juice, preferably carrot, parsley and celery. then have a good breakfast with some protein, but no processed foods. Eat fresh fruit and veg, preferably no meat, but some fish is OK. Definitely no chicken (growth additives to their food make it hard to lose weight if you eat chicken). Cut out dairy. Nuts and green veg will provide the calcium you need. Eat enough to satisfy you, but don't eat if you are not hungry. It is important to eat enough so that your body doesn't go into "starvation mode" and store everything, ie keep up your metabolic rate.

      Before meals have a large teaspoon of psyllium husks mixed in water - the psyllium acts like a broom through the gut, and also fills you so that you won't eat so much.

      From the second week on, start each day with two large glasses of warm water and lemon juice. (2 glasses the first week can make the cleansing process too fast, resulting in headaches and a feeling of nausea)

      As a general rule: breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper - what you eat at night you tend to store on the hips, but starving yourself just makes it easier to gain weight.

      Make sure you drink lots of water!!!! Add some lemon juice to help make it more palatable if you want.

      Before going to bed each night, spend 5 minutes imagining yourself slim, trim and terrific!

    Did you try it, and do you think it really worked?

    I was reading about this, and you're supposed to drink a lot of apple juice for 6 days and then drink water mixed with epsom salts and then another drink with grapefruit right before you sleep, then one more drink with epsom salt in the morning. Anyone heard of this? Anyone do it and can you tell me what you thought?
    This supposedly releases all of the gall stones that have accumulated in the liver. You poop them out after drinking all of this stuff.

      As you requested, I did some further research upon the topic and found that both lemons and limes seem to work the same way for this purpose.

      The use of lemon or lime varies depending on the area. For example, in some Latin America countries, what we call "Lemon" is called "Limon Amarillo" (Literally "Yellow Lemon"), and they call limes "Limones" ("Lemons")

      Depending on where did the recipe originated, you may find that they either use one or the other. Some will exclusively say "Lemon Juice", while others will say "Lime Juice"

      Several recipes call for either one or the other saying "lemon or lime juice"

      Since both are highly acidic the results seem to be pretty much the same.

      In conclusion, the only difference you will notice will be in the taste.

    I found a recipe online that is supposed to cleanse your liver and gallbladder through the consumption of JUST apple juice and lemon for two days straight, plus epsom salt to induce bowel movements. Is this even safe? It sounds like drinking just apple juice for two days would be horrible since you aren't getting other vitamins.

      That recipe will cause harm to your body. Doctors have come out in droves against these fad "cleansing" regimens.

      Just eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables(frozen counts as fresh) and get daily exercise, and your body will naturally cleanse itself.

      Here are a couple of facts:

      Diets, in the modern sense, do not work.

      Miracle cures are bogus.

      You don't need a colon cleanse. Your body rids itself of toxins naturally. This is what the liver and kidneys are for. You also don't need to 'go on a diet.' What you do need to do is make a fundamental, permanent lifestyle change. Cut out the soda, even diet soda. Cut out drive thrus and never eat in your car. Eat food that you prepare yourself, from scratch, using fresh ingredients. Try not to eat meat every day. Eating meat is fine and healthy, but not in the quantities that we typically consume it. Try two new vegetables every week. Some you will hate, some you will like. Keep the ones you like in your diet. I recommend parsnips. They make a great replacement for potatoes. You don't need a colon cleanse, you just need more fiber in your diet. Eat a couple of apples every day, skin included. Hunt around for some good salad recipes that use mixed greens, arugula, fresh spinach, or leaf lettuce. Stay away from iceberg, it is nothing but water. Look for nutrient dense, calorie light foods. I am not going to lie to you, you are going to probably end up spending more on food than you do now, for less food, but the food you eat will be a lot healthier, and it will taste a lot better. Don't 100 percent cut out the things you like. Allow yourself dessert, although no more than once a week. Allow yourself a soft drink, but no more than once a week, and get one that is made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

      Here comes the difficult part: never stop doing this. Diets fail because they are finite. People start them and stop them. True change comes with permanence.

      Eating right is only half of the equation. You also need to increase your level of physical activity. A great way to do this is to get a good, comfortable bicycle and use it for any trip that is three to five miles each way or less instead of your car. You don't have to wear stupid looking lycra clothes, there are plenty of bikes that are designed so you can ride them in your normal every day clothes. You can get bikes with baskets, racks, and bags so you can even carry a week's worth of groceries on your bike. The other advantage to this is that even though you will be spending more on food, you will be spending less on gasoline and car maintenance, so it will balance out.

      It isn't easy at first, but it becomes easier with time. If you can keep it up, you will never want to go back to your old ways.

      Drinking just water and herbal teas for one day is a good way to detox. If you want to do it longer, you can add a day eating only melon. Cantaloupe (rock melon), which is both warming and a good laxative, and/or water melon which is cooling and is very good both both the liver and the kidneys, and if you are experienced in fasting, you can practically stay on this diet for several days.
      Or go on a banana day, which is good for detoxification, removing drug deposits from the medulla in the brain and rebuilding worn body tissue.

      Detoxing your body is a great thing to do if you have been abusing it. That doesn't have to mean lots of alcohol or drugs, just that you have been loading it up with more toxins than your body can handle. You also need to consider whether you spend a lot of your time in a toxic environment - big cities, lots of exhaust fumes, industries near where you live pumping out crap into the air you breathe, contaminated drinking water ...

      The body uses the liver and kidneys in particular to process and eliminate toxins. Too much and these organs cannot cope, so your body stores them in fat.

      I've never taken supplements to detox, although I have friends and relatives who have used them and agree they help. Metagenics is the brand that they use, and they provide you with a booklet giving you a program and diet to follow.

      You can, however, detox just by changing your diet for about 6 weeks. If you want detailed info Dr Sandra Cabot wrote two books for the Liver and Bowel Cleansing diet, including plenty of recipes.

      - Eat only fish and chicken as meat products, but not tuna, and try to get organic chicken or at least chicken that has not been fed hormones or treated with a lot of chemicals

    What are some of your creative ways to get rid of them? I wash my makeup off at night and apply the benzoyl peroxide or whatever spot treatment there is, but it just doesn't seem to really get it.

    Also, how do you guys get rid of acne scars? The small red blemishes, not the craters.

      Lemon Juice Applied Directly to Acne

    The thing about the Weight Watcher's meals, or the healthy frozen dinners, or healthy recipes is that they don't really fit my eating style. "Penne pasta and portabella mushrooms, drizzled in a savory sauce" is not something I really want to eat with or without the carbs and calories.

      Morning: Drink any kind of tea ( green, berry, etc.) and squeeze lemon into your tea, and boil ( not fry!) an egg and avocado for breakfast.

      lunch: eat non pasteurized yogurt, you can add fresh berries into it, and if you want you can pair it up with some carrots and celery.

      Dinner at 5 or so: steam some fresh veggies, and cook a tilapia fish in the oven, you can season it with pepper, 0 calorie salt, and some spices)

      -during the day make sure you drink 8 cups of water a day
      - do not eat past 6:00 PM

      the reason for avocado and egg for breakfast, is: avocado cleanses your body of garbage and gives healthy skin ( rids acne), egg for energy, and tea to help loose weight and boost metabolism.

      the reason for yogurt and berries is its healthy does good to your liver and spleen, and yogurt boosts metabolism. resulting in loosing weight and being healthy in a fast and easy way.

      and reason for dinner is: fish is healthy for your heart and does alot of good for your body as well and the veggies.

      I've lost almost 10kg in 8 weeks by doing the liver cleansing diet. It just basically means you eat healthily and eliminate problem foods.

      Food choices are important because certain foods clog the liver and reduce its fat burning function, while other foods cleanse it and increase fat burning function. The liver cleansing diet lasts for 8 weeks but the principles of the diet can be adhered to for life. This diet allows you to eat well but just has some restrictions.

      It requires that you eliminate red meat, animal fats, dairy, all processed food and anything containing additives. Replace that with fresh fish/seafood (not fried), some lean chicken, lots of vegetables (raw is better), salads and fruit, wholemeal bread, pasta and rice. Drink lots of water and if you can make a fresh raw vegie juice each morning then the process will speed up.

      I do this myself every year to shed excess weight and usually lose around 1kg a week. It works if you don't cheat of course.       Well I can suggest a few diet ideas but you HAVE to do your own research on them if you want to try them because you have to get enough of certain vitamins and stuff.

      Vegetarian: Why? Because meat isn't just meat when you buy it at the stores. Its filled with ridiculous chemicals that your body has a hard time processing and so your liver works over time and because 13 is the hormone years (and the worst years of your life it seems like) some of the hormones can go into your blood stream and clog your pores. So if you just cut out meat it might help a little bit

      Juice cleanse: So I read about this and all you do for 3 days/sometimes more (I think but you should do the research if you want to do this) is where you make your own fresh fruit smoothies or juice and you can only drink that for 3 days or more.
      The only problems with this is the fact that you would be getting basically no protein for a week and when your growing you need protein (so they say)
      The juice cleanse detoxifies the body and allows the liver to work more normally.

      Raw food diet: This is something similar to vegetarian but a whole lot more difficult. The raw food diet is a diet where you don't eat any processed foods. That means no chocolate/bread/meat/cheese/etc. (Again do research if your interested)

      Also I have heard that the entire "your bones need milk to grow" idea is just a way for dairy companies to make money (again do research before you think it would be okay to cut out dairy)

      And the problems with the juice cleanse an raw food diet is that they are both weight loss programs as well. (So if your thin and tend to lose weight easily then you would have to eat a lot more to keep your weight)

      Mineral-Rich Bone Broth (Beef & Garlic)
      Ingredients
      This recipe make approximately 64oz of broth depending on how much water, how much you reduce the broth and how strong you like the flavor to be.

      4 quarts of filtered water
      1.5- 2 lbs of beef knuckle bones or marrow bones (or any other kinds of bones – especially oxtail, which lends added gelatin and a delicious flavor). Chicken necks are inexpensive and also work great.
      the cloves from 1 whole head of fresh garlic, peeled & smashed
      2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (organic, unfiltered- I like Bragg’s brand)
      1Tsp unrefined sea salt - or more/less to taste (I like Real Salt)
      Preparation

      If you choose, you may brown or roast the bones/meaty bones first in a separate pan/pot if using a crockpot, but this isn’t a necessary step. I don’t normally do it because I don’t find it enhances the flavor – and it saves dishes. You can choose to brown them in bacon fat or coconut oil before putting them into the water in the next step.
      Place all ingredients in a 6 quart crockpot and set the heat to HIGH.
      Bring the stock to a boil, then reduce the heat setting to LOW.
      Allow the stock to cook for a minimim of 8 hours and up to 24 hours. The longer it cooks, the better!
      Turn off the crockpot and allow the stock to cool.
      Strain the stock through a fine mesh metal strainer and throw away what you skim off.
      Place the cooled stock into glass jars for storage in the fridge (for up to a few days) or pour into freezer-safe containers for later use. (You can freeze it in ice cube trays and defrost a few at a time!)

      When the broth is fully cooled, look for a gelatinous consistency. That means your broth is gelatin-rich! At times, a longer or very hot simmer may break down the gelatin and your broth won’t appear gelatinous. That’s OK! The minerals are still there.
      If you like, you can skim off any fat that has risen to the top and solidified – consider this “tallow” – and feel free to cook with it!

      You can drink stock any time of day, before or after meals, or use it as the base for soups and stews! Perfect in any recipe that calls for broth.

      Variations
      Use any other kind of animal bones you like – chicken, in fact, will take less time due to the smaller pieces.
      Add chopped veggies like carrots, celery and onions for more flavor or variety.
      A crockpot makes this recipe super-simple, but you can also use a large stock pot (hence the name) or an enameled cast-iron dutch oven.

    Is fasting frequently short periods of time over the course of a year as effective as fasting long periods of time infrequently over the course of a year? Thank you.

      Although one should start with short juice fasts, I would think long ones would be most effective.

      that is when I got phenomenal results during my 30 and 50 day juice fast.

      Water fasts should generally not be undertaken and if they are, they should be short.

      A juice fast like I did includes fresh juiced fruits and veggies (drink juice within 15 minutes (lest enzymes dissipate) with no pulp (so the vital elements go to healing repair and not digestion and . do not hold over in the fridge. if you must put in a glass jar, fill jar to tiptop, open infrequently and put a lid on it.

      Though not recommended I occasionally did take (100% juice) commercial juices when I did not have access to fresh.on it) or tomato juice if taking a slew of nasty tasting tinctures at once to disguise taste.

      I once heard a lady at the gym say she never felt as healthy in her life as when she did a 7 day fast.

      But short fasts do not get to the stages of cleansing that a long fast can as each day new things are being done to the body.

      I also lost a lot of weight during these even though I was taking in a lot of nutrition (I took herbdoc.com 's superfood that has a good deal of sea algae and seaweeds for protein)

      I would say definitely long fasts less frequently is the most healing. Start with shorter fasts and then work up to long fasts.

      I've done it and there was really no pain at all considering I'm a veggie person. The only agonizing thing was the sticking to the routine with the flushing recipe, the trips to the toilet, and finally relieving yourself of the stones which were a plenty if it is the first time you're doing it. The funny thing is you hear funny sounds on the gallbladder side after you drink the olive oil stuff. Drinking the olive oil stuff was actually the worst part unless you temper it with lemon juice.

      On the other hand, my friend who was into eating a lot of meat had so much discomfort and pain that he did not push through with the flush. There is a 7-9 day flush recipe for meat eaters that starts with vegetarian meals for at least 3 days that should soften the bile to loosen the stones.
