Foods To Cleanse Your Liver

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Can I include dairy in a raw food cleanse?
I'm doing a 21 raw food cleanse with my husband for his fatty liver.

However, since I'm pregnant, I'm going to also eat dairy such as greek yogurt and milk. Would that be okay for him too?

I know raw milk is okay, but you can't get it in Canada.

    • ANSWER:
You probably should let your husband go on the cleanse and do it right. A liver cleanse while pregnant might be dangerous. You should sit this one out.

  2. QUESTION:
How to cleanse the liver and/or Pancreas?
Whats a good natural remedy to cleanse the liver and pancreas?

    • ANSWER:
This page outlines the basic Liver Cleansing. This section contains eight pages of details related to the Liver and Gallbladder Cleanse. We hope you find this information useful.
It is quite impossible to achieve complete health without having a clean body. If you want to build health and sustain it, the body must be made able to feed itself and remove its own wastes. This starts with a liver cleanse. When the liver is functioning it will clean the body at the cellular level provided that one eats good foods on a regular basis. At this point the food itself becomes a constant remedy. Eliminating the need for excessive supplementation.
The Basic Ingredients needed for a successful Liver Gallbladder Cleanse or Flush:

2-4 quarts of Organic Apple Juice
      6-12 fresh Organic Lemons
A 16 ounce bottle of Extra virgin Olive oil, or Walnut oil which is much more palatable and just as effective.
1 bottle of Digestorum or enough Paracelsus Elixir on hand to last for two or more weeks.

  4. QUESTION:
How can i detox and cleanse my liver?
What are some natural and low cost ways to detox and cleanse my liver?

    • ANSWER:
The healthy way is to have a healthy lifestyle.
Adopt a healthy balanced eating plan, with a variety of fruits, vegetables, wholegrain, lean protein, healthy fats & low-fat dairy.
Drink adequate water, keep the not-so-healthy foods to small portion sizes & don't over-indulge with alcohol.

  5. QUESTION:
How to end my craving for junk food?
I'm 14 years old and 110 pounds. How do I say no to cookies, chips, and fries?? I'm always wanting sugary and fatty foods. Dr. Oz said you need to cleanse your liver? How do I do that? Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
drink water and eat fruits, fruits always satsify a sweet tooth

  6. QUESTION:
Can any one advise me on a good vitamin, herb or food for detoxing your liver?
There are so many different kinds of supplements out there but what brand is the best? What should you look for on the label? Is there any kind of food that cleanses your liver, colon, arteries?

    • ANSWER:
The best herb for the liver is milk thistle. It's absolutely amazing. It is the only known antidote for amanita mushroom poisoning (the poison basically liquefies your liver.) Many herbalists recommend taking it along with turmeric, which also has hepatic (liver) protecting qualities.

As far as food to clean various parts of your body, artichoke shows promise in the liver, a high-fiber diet (with whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables) is best for the colon and arteries.

If you get a milk thistle or milk thistle/turmeric herbal supplement, make sure the label says the capsules are standardized. This means that each capsule has the same amount of the active ingredients, as opposed to the average of the capsules in the bottle being at the recomended dosage.

You should avoid acetaminophen (tylenol) and alcohol when detoxifying your liver, as well.

      Good luck!

  7. QUESTION:
Spiritually, if you knew a certain food would beat cancer, would you eat it?
I have learned how to eat healthier and eat certain foods to help with health problems, for example:
Cherries reduce inflammation and help with pain.
Pineapple has an ingredient that helps with arthritis.
Blue berries fight cancer and cleanse the liver.
    Limes fight lung cancer.
    Lemons cleanse the liver.
Cooked broccoli fights and prevents cancer.
Oranges have vitamin C with helps with colds.
Asparagus helps with urinary tract infections.
Homemade chicken soup is like a natural antibiotic.
The list is endless; feel free to give extra help tips also
But really this question is about your spiritual life.
We do all we can to stay healthy by eating healthy.
But how many of us think about their spiritual health.
This is what the Bible says about spiritual health:

(John 17:3) 3 This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.
There is no hell and the Bible doesn't teach that. so if you are afraid of that, eat what you want.

    • ANSWER:
Some interesting claims here. A major practice in the area of food industry marketing and in pharmaceuticals is the process of taking our foodstuffs apart and looking to see what useful chemicals are able to be derived from them. In many cases this is good as it's a golden route to discovering new drugs.
The downside is the marketeers of these fruits can woefully misuse the information and spread what is essentially a bunch of misinformation to the public.

Nature is a brilliant chemistry lab and nearly all our pharmaceuticals are natural derivatives, but just because a drug comes from a plant, it does not automatically follow that plant itself is all that beneficial beyond it's source of everyday vitamins and minerals. The "active ingredient" or chemical property which actually aids us medically in nearly all cases must be concentrated, refined and synthesised.

Cherries contain anthrocyanins which show promise as an anti-inflammatory agent and mild analgesic - at least in rats so far. BUT the concentrations of these chemicals in an unprocessed cherry (or grape or raspberry which also contain them) are so low that no significant chemical activity could take place from the action of consuming them. Basically you could eat a whole bowl of cherries, and it will have little or no effect on your pain issues (other than perhaps the placebo). A single paracetamol tablet would be far more effective and less likely to give you a bad stomach as a result!

Pineapple contains bromelain which does have anti-inflamatory benefits when tested on mice. Again, though this is from the processed concentrated product, not fresh from a pineapple. However, it's usefulness in arthritis "has neither been confirmed in human studies for this use, nor is it approved with a health claim for such an effect by the Food and Drug Administration or European Food Safety Authority." Bromelain would also have a side effect of increasing heart stress and anxiety, so may be a tricky drug to administer. It's got other useful non medical properties though.

Blueberries are excellent sources of many dietary requiements, but some of the claims of them as "superfruits" (a term invented entirely by advertising executives, not nutritionists) are wildly overplayed. Blueberries will NOT fight cancer, although the phytochemicals they contain may help towards preventing it, but as yet there's no firm scientific evidence for that. Blueberries are excellent sources of anti-oxidants, but after a decade of research and endless advertising for the wonders of anti-oxidant supplements, there isn't any medical evidence that suggests ingesting antioxidants does anything at all to help you. One pharmacologist described it as expecting an anti-oxidant food to protect from the scourge of free radicals was like hiding behind a sheet of paper hoping it protects you from a gunshot.

I've never heard of limes helping against lung cancer or lemons cleaning the liver.
Broccoli genuinely does have anti-cancer benefits due to it's concentration of 3,3-Diindolylmethane along with sprouts and cabbage.
Oranges are packed with vitamin C, but also so are a number of fruits on this list.
Asparagus is a natural diuretic, but there's no scientific evidence that it actually helps UTIs. In order to check the claim I ended up having to look at **shudder** complimentary health sites. This quote is from one of those sites and is a surprising confession: "UTIs have to be promptly treated with antibiotics. Otherwise, bacteria may infect other organs or enter the blood stream. Keep in mind that asparagus does not replace and should not be used to replace any conventional drugs prescribed for urinary tract infections. It is not approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration for any kidney or any other urinary tract infections."

As for homemade chicken soup being an antibiotic, thats a highly contentious claim. For a start it depends entirely on who made it and with what ingredients. It could just as easily be a bowl of warm ecoli or typhoid! From what I can see of the claim, the mechanism of the soup is not antibiotic in itself, but does act to aid decongestion in colds. A Nebraska university study also said that commercial chicken soups were equally as effective.

In all I don't want anyone to be put off eating healthily but please don't believe in miracle health benefits. The real miracle is the medical sciences that allow these investigations to take place and for us to use genuinely effective drugs beyond the wives tales and folk medicines that consistently failed to save lives for thousands of years. The pharmaceutical industry may be greedy, bureaucratic and given to claims stretching of it's own, but the astonishing leap in longevity and healthy lives in the past 100 or so years are testament to it's effectiveness.

  8. QUESTION:
What will help to loose weight fast over the next three weeks?
Other than of course low diet and execise, I know that.
Do any foods help cleanse you? Detoxes? Sauna?

    • ANSWER:
Your liver and kidneys cleanse you.

Detox diets are unhealthy. When you don't get enough food your body destroys muscle to get energy, which produces toxic byproducts. This is why cleanse or detox treatments can cause permanent damage to your organs.

The best way to lose weight is to cut out flour, butter, cheese, juice, soda, diet soda, protein drinks, and red meat. Combine this with walking five miles a day -maybe 1.5 hours of walking - and you will easily start losing weight.

  9. QUESTION:
How can I do I liver cleanse without the apple/olive oil mix?
I want to do a liver cleanse but I don't want to do that extreme apple/olive oil lemon juice mixture.

Is there a way that I can do it with eating certain foods a certain way, slowly over time?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, there are many other ways to heal your liver, such as herbs like milk thistle or specially formulated liver supplements. Livatrex can help you painlessly pass stones like a liver flush with olive oil and lemon juice, but less dramatic.

Also there is a liver flush that uses eggs, limes, and oil but is really mild. Some people have success with that.

Changing your diet will help - healthy fats, cruciferous vegetables, whole grains, limiting sugar, eliminating bad fats. Karen Hurd has a protocol of eating legumes to decongest the liver. Just eating a lot of apples will help, one or two daily. The tart ones are best like Jonathan or Granny Smith.

Daily lemon water also cleanses the liver and kidneys and is easy to add on to whatever you decide.

  10. QUESTION:
What is a liver cleanse that you have actually used?
A doctor told me I need to do a liver cleanse. Is there one that you have actually used? How long did it take? Did you have to be close to a bathroom for more than 24 hours? I have a few weeks to figure out how to do this until I see him again.
Oh, the doctor didn't say to just do one right away. It has to wait a few more weeks. I just want to know what to expect, thanks.

    • ANSWER:
At Shoppers Drug Mart (Canadian) I did a detox of the liver colon and kidneys called triotox. its a 100% herbal cleanse and it was really easy -3 pills 3 x a day for 14 days with food and a multi vitamin. I could really feel the benefit right away. You will feel slightly sick for a while but that is because your body is adjusting to the cleanse. Drink about 8-10 glasses of water a day while on it or the cleanse will not work so great. Also I found herbal tyea to be stimuolating. I went to the bathroom a slight bit more than usual but it wasnt so bad. just one or 2 extra trips in the night.

      Good luck.

  11. QUESTION:
How to cleanse my body in a natural and fast way?
I want to know what's the best way to CLEANSE or DETOX my body (all organs). I'm going through vigorous training, so I need to eat, that's why the faster the method, the better. I was going to try the "Master Cleanse" but it's a 10 day fast and I don't now if I can do it...My goal is to reset my body, have everything clean to where all my nutrients are being absorbed properly, and processed well. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Take psyllium husk and coconut oil before every meal. This is a very gentle but effective colon cleanse. The psyllium husk is pure fibre and will 'scrub' the inside walls of your digestive tract. The coconut oil lubricates everything so foods passes through more easily and is also antibacterial and antifungal so it cleans. Also regularly eat foods that are high in Probiotics. I like kefir (strawberry flavour tastes like a fruit smoothie!) But yogurt and fermented vegetables are also good sources. Good bacteria helps you digest better

Drink bitter teas after each meal. This may not sound pleasant but bitter foods stimulate your liver and help strengthen it so it works better. Look for ingredients like dandelion, burdock, milk thistle, licorise, cinnamon, etc. Don't take capsules, they are way less effective

Drink lots of water, this flushes out your urinary tract (kidneys, etc). If your tap water has fluoride added, drink bottled instead. Fluoride is a chemical that is not good for you! If your water is fluoride-free but contains chlorine, boil it or leave it out overnight. The chlorine will evaporate and leave your water clean but chemical free

And obviously, if you really want to detox, you should avoid putting more 'toxins' in your body. This means you should avoid all drugs (including pain killers, cold meds, etc), alcohol, caffeine, and processed foods

  12. QUESTION:
Should a skinny person go on a fast or liver cleanse diet?
I'm currently on a liver cleanse diet to hopefully remove toxins from my body but the problem is I am skinny. I lose weight easily and by removing many foods from my diet, I feel like I will lose a lot of weight. Should I even be on this diet?

    • ANSWER:
Cleansing has absolutely no medical benefit and is in fact harmful to the digestive tract.
There is no "build up" of bad plaque or sludge in a normal system. If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their bodies couldn't absorb nutrients.
Since we reabsorb most of the water in our food and drink through the large intestine, If it was coated with "mucoid plaque", we would all be sloshing around like sponges yes?
We "cleanse and detox" 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
A high fiber diet works every time.
Spend your money in the produce department instead of giving it away.

  13. QUESTION:
What is the best full body cleanse recipe?
Do they really work? A friend has recommended Hulda Clarks Liver cleanse. The problem is I am 30 to 40 pounds over weight. (was 65 pounds). I lost 25 pretty quick now I am 'stuck'. I walk 2 miles a day fast, I do a 35 minute work out. I eat like a bird. Lots of salad, little to no carbs. Haven't lost an ounce in weeks! I feel better but I want the pounds OFF. My friend says a body cleanse might help kick the weight loss back into gear? I am 44, 5.6 and weigh 193. I need to get at least 30 more pounds off to feel comfortable. Will a body cleanse help?
I tried a body cleanse from the health store and I noticed NO difference in anything. It was called 'Total Body rapid cleanse by Renew Life. Was a waste of money from what I can tell.

    • ANSWER:
It is very normal to plateau during stages of weight loss, and very disheartening! Just keep up your commitment. Things that help include lemon juice in warm-hot water every morning (like a shower on the inside) - for the first week just have one large glass of hot water with the juice of up to half a lemon (or lime - not orange) first thing. then if you can, go for a walk. Follow with a vegetable juice, preferably carrot, parsley and celery. then have a good breakfast with some protein, but no processed foods. Eat fresh fruit and veg, preferably no meat, but some fish is OK. Definitely no chicken (growth additives to their food make it hard to lose weight if you eat chicken). Cut out dairy. Nuts and green veg will provide the calcium you need. Eat enough to satisfy you, but don't eat if you are not hungry. It is important to eat enough so that your body doesn't go into "starvation mode" and store everything, ie keep up your metabolic rate.

Before meals have a large teaspoon of psyllium husks mixed in water - the psyllium acts like a broom through the gut, and also fills you so that you won't eat so much.

From the second week on, start each day with two large glasses of warm water and lemon juice. (2 glasses the first week can make the cleansing process too fast, resulting in headaches and a feeling of nausea)

As a general rule: breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper - what you eat at night you tend to store on the hips, but starving yourself just makes it easier to gain weight.

Make sure you drink lots of water!!!! Add some lemon juice to help make it more palatable if you want.

Before going to bed each night, spend 5 minutes imagining yourself slim, trim and terrific!

Well done for getting as far as you have, and good luck with the remaining weight loss. Keep healthy and happy with who you are.

I hope these tips help and wish you all the best.

  14. QUESTION:
What foods are better for digestive health?
My stomach is often upset and rather than trying to avoid certain foods (because there seem to be so many of them that it is impossible to identify them all) I am curious to know if there are any foods that are supposed to be good for over-all digestive health, and if so, what are they? I know about yogurt already but is there anything else? Also are there any vitamins that are particularly helpful with this?

(I'm a vegetarian, by the way, but I eat cheese, fish & eggs.)

    • ANSWER:
      For Better Digestion Follow this:

      1. Every morning before breakfast, freshly squeeze the juice of 1 - 2 lemons in 250ml - 500ml of spring or filtered water. This small but effective daily routine will help to cleanse the stomach of left over 'debris' and remove any excess acid.

      2. Another daily drink taken late morning or sometime before lunch will complement the cleanse in 'Tip 1' . This can include 1tsp - 1 tbsp of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 250ml - 500ml apple juice (freshly squeezed is even better). This drink will balance digestive juices, specifically for low or high levels of Hydrochloric acid (HCl).

      3. Avoid cold drinks while eating. Food is digested more efficiently at around body temperature, therefore cold fluid can slow down the digestive processes. If you must drink while eating, try hot water or herbal teas. Caffeine can cause excess production of HCl so should be avoided, as should alcohol.

      4. Have you ever heard of Swedish Bitters? The taste of bitter herbs, foods, juices etc, 20 - 30mins before eating will increase digestive function by encouraging the release of digestive enzymes, juices and acids.

      5. Specific self massage and exercise techniques used as part of a daily routine will also contribute to better digestion.

'LIVER EXERCISE' - This exercise massages the Liver and Gall Bladder, tonifying and cleansing these organs. It helps cope with abdominal wind, and assists digestion. Place the heel of the right hand on the right side of the body under the rib cage, and just above the hip bone. The fingers should point straight across the body. Pressing firmly, move the hand slowly across the body to the middle of the abdomen; you should end up with the heel of the hand over the navel. Repeat this action 10-20 times.

'STOMACH EXERCISE' - This exercise is similar to the Liver Exercise, but is applied to the other side of the body. It benefits the digestion, the Spleen, and the Pancreas, as well as the Stomach. Method: Place the heel of the left hand between the rib cage and the left hip, with the fingers pointing across the body. Move the hand firmly and smoothly across to the centre of the body, until it is over the navel. Repeat 10-20 times.

      6. Short term fasting is one way to allow the digestive system a well deserved break. However "first time fasters"should try it for a maximum of 24hrs.

Remember always to drink plenty of fruit and vegetable juice during your fast. Also plan your fasting for days when you will not be doing lots of hard physical work and can take plenty of rest.

      7. CHEW, CHEW, CHEW... One of the most important mechanisms of digestion, yet more often than not, the most forgotten!

Chewing is the first stage of digestion. It not only physically breaks down foods, but signals the organs to secrete their digestive juices (pancreatic enzymes, stomach acids etc) in order to prepare for the incoming foods.

Naturopaths believe that you should try to chew your food until it is near to a liquid consistency.

      8. 'Food Combining' can work well for many people. There are
books available which explain the reasons for food combining, for
example, 'The Hay Diet Made Easy: A Practical Guide to Food
Combining' by Jackie & Alexandra Habgood. 'Food Combining' is not only for weight loss but can assist problems due to an imbalanced digestive system.

Briefly, food combining involves the 3 main types of food/fuel i.e. Carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, rice), Proteins (meats, dairy, nuts, soya) and Fats (cooking oils, avocados). It is considered that one should not mix these types of food within one particular meal. For example, eat either carbohydrates alone or proteins alone, together with (non starchy) vegetables or salad.

      9. Colon Cleansing & Liver Cleansing through the use of herbs, foods and supplements will benefit the whole digestive system greatly. There are many companies and practitioners (Naturopathic) who recommend their own cleansing routines and you will find that many elements of the various routines will be similar.

Any method is good if it does the job! Colon Cleansing & Liver Cleansing are two of the most popular approaches to getting started with detox, and detox benefits every part of the body by helping the body remove toxins which otherwise slow down every organ and every body function. Counteract this tendency by using Colon Cleansing & Liver Cleansing.

      10. Here are some herbs known to help with excess digestive juices & acids in conditions such as Hiatus Hernia and Stomach Ulcers: For example a great digestive tea can be made by comgined the excellent herbs Meadowsweet, Fennel, Comfrey and Peppermint.

Slippery Elm Tea is a very soothing herbal tea, with a consistency like thin porridge. It is blended with water and drunk hot. Slippery Elm is also available in capsules as Slippery Elm Capsules, if you prefer this. Slippery Elm is a fantastic herb to soothe the bowel if there is IBS or Colitis.

Bayberry and Wild Yam can also be used in drops (tincture or fluid extract) or as capsules or tablets. These herbs will help to soothe and heal an ulcerated or 'colicky' type of condition. Wild Yam is a great antispasmodic - it relaxes muscles in spasm. It is particularly helpful for the liver and also the bowel. It is also used by women to relax the uterus which can relieve pain during periods or menopause.

Digestive Capsules or Drops are available as well as teas. Generally, take these for 3-4 months for a course, though you should start to see benefits - eg reduced indigestion - after 2-3 weeks. If not, see a herbalist for advice. Licorice Tea is made in the same way as Ginger Tea.

Cardamom, Cloves, Fennel, Ginger and Cinnamon can all be made into a tea to be drunk after a meal. Simply place some seeds in half a pint or so of water in a non-aluminium pan. Bring to a gentle simmer and let simmer for a few minutes. Strain and drink. If using fresh ginger, cut a few slices (a few mm thick) and do the same.

Foods such as Lemons, Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic, Onion, Leek, Rice, Root Vegetables, Papaya, Pineapple and Artichokes can all aid proper digestion. Try to include some of these foods into your general daily diet.

Good Luck! I hope this helps!

  15. QUESTION:
How do you cleanse you liver and keep it clean?
I read that consuming certain foods can cause a buildup called "fatty liver" and that when you have this is slows down you fat burning metabolism. So I want to know how to make sure your liver is clean, which foods to eat and which to avoid etc.
I do work out daily, and I eat healthy most of the time.

    • ANSWER:
Going to quote you real fast:

"I read that consuming certain foods can cause a buildup called "fatty liver" and that when you have this is slows down you fat burning metabolism."

It's actually far more complicated than that. I'm not going to go into everything here, but there are plenty of ways people burden their livers and destroy their organs -- much of the time willingly.

To "cleanse the liver," there's only two things you can do:

      1: Stop burdening the liver.
--- Typically this step involves doing >less.< Eat less, for example. Suck in less car exhaust, drink less cola, wash your hands less, shower less, etc. There are too many things to talk about here, so I'll just leave you with that and move on.

2: Resupply your liver with what it needs.
--- This step can be a huge problem for people, because there's so much misleading information out there. In fact, most of that misleading information has "clinical trial" stamped to it and is therefor approved by the government and the masses.
--- But whatever -- they'll do what they want. I'll tell you the truth: In some way, you need to get just about every basal element into your body, all in different amounts. Magnesium, for example -- or zinc, or molybdenum, or hydrogen, or strontium.
--- The liver needs many different materials to make tools with. If it can't make its tools, it can't repair itself or deal with the load its obligated to take on. You can cleanse you heart out with herbs and water and all sorts of things, but your liver will never be healthy without the elements it needs. This goes for the entire body.

So, start researching, but lookout for the liars. Apparently you want to lose weight, which is fine, but be more concerned about your body as an organism. Go on a fast using pure, filtered water or deep-ground well water (get it analyzed), and remineralize it with dark sea salt ("dark" meaning the darkest in color you can find), sea water, or concentrated sea water (w/ or w/o sodium removed). Doing just that, you can expect to healthily lose five to twenty pounds a week, depending of course on how much weight there is to lose and what your body's condition is at the time.

      Hope this helped.

EDIT: "Cleanse your heart out" was meant figuratively.

  16. QUESTION:
What kind of food or drink has diuretic properties?
Every summer I have the tendency to retain water because of the heat. Right now, I am retaining water. If there are foods or supplements out there to help me that would be great. I can go to my doctor to get a water pill but I want to try the non-medicine way first. Thx.

    • ANSWER:
The following foods and herbs are know to have diuretic properties:

      Celery seed (and plant)
      Parsley
      Dandelion
      Juniper berries
      Asparagus
      Artichoke
      Melon
      Watercress
Other foods (common in the Western diet) also have a diuretic effect:

      Coffee
      Tea
      Coke
      Excessive animal-based protein

      Diuretic Diet Plans
A diuretic diet plan can help to alleviate symptoms of PMS - such as bloating and headaches.

Aim to eat small amounts of starchy carbohydrates (such as breads, rice, etc).
Avoid salt and salty food products.
Drink plenty of water and herbal teas.
      See herbs above.
      Avoid sugary foods.
      Eat fruit and vegetables.

      Natural diuretic
More and more people are resorting to natural foods and herbs that exhibit diuretic properties instead of diuretic pills. Moderation is the watchword even in the case of natural diuretics. Natural diuretics can aid in removal of excess fluids from the body and aid in treating of sciatica, kidney stone, lymphatic swelling, PMS, gonorrhea, liver disorders and high blood pressure.

Green tea is a natural diuretic food that has been in use for centuries in China.
Consumption of cranberry juice can aid in removal of excess fluid retention.
Apple cider vinegar exhibits natural diuretic properties and in addition maintains the potassium levels. It can be added to the salad dressing.
Dandelion is often used as a natural diuretic.
Nettle has natural diuretic properties that facilitate good cleansing.
Dandelion leaf tea aids in detoxification and has a beneficial effect on those suffering from cystitis and urinary tract infections.
Fennel has carminative and diuretic properties and is frequently used in seasoning food.

      Diuretic food
Natural foods with high water content such as watermelons and cucumbers help increase urination and better flushing out of toxins. Cucumbers are rich in sulfur and silicon that stimulate the kidneys into better removal of uric acid. Watercress and artichokes are also natural diuretic foods.

Asparagus contains asparigine - a chemical alkaloid that boosts kidney performance, thereby improving waste removal from the body.

Brussel Spouts help in stimulating the kidneys and pancreas. This helps in better cleansing of cells.

Beets are natural diuretic foods that attack floating body fats and fatty deposits.

Oats contain silica - a natural diuretic.

Cabbage is known to aid breakage of fatty deposits, especially around the abdominal region.

Carrots are a rich source of carotene that speeds the metabolic rate of the body and hastens removal of fat deposits and waste.

Lettuce aids better metabolism and flushing of toxins.

Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin C that aid the metabolism and release of water from the kidney to flush out waste.

Other than the other excellent properties that Garlic possesses, it is a natural diuretic food that aids breakage of fat. Horseradish, raw onions and radish speed up your metabolism.

      Good luck xx

  17. QUESTION:
What are the best brands to use for the master cleanse diet ?
I plan on starting the first step, which is called it ease-in, on Monday. I am wondering if anyone has done the Master Cleanse, how successful they were, & their recommendations. Mainly, what brands of the cayenne pepper, syrup, & everything else, & where's the best place to get it all locally. I live in the metro area of Detroit, Michigan. Thanks!! >.<

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
The lemon detox/master cleanse diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose weight on this diet whether you are attempting weight loss or just trying to "cleanse". The average adult has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose up to 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system. Plus the weight of the lost glycogen stores, excess sodium and associated water. This can add up to 15-20 lbs depending on your build. So it does work but it does not change your size. Pour the soda out of a bottle and the shape of the bottle doesn't change does it? Once you start eating again you just replace all the missing food in the system.
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available. The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to convert muscle and even organ tissue first for fuel instead of the stored fat. Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed. The complete opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. And sadly metabolism actually drops.
There is no build up of bad plaque, toxins, or sludge in a normal, reasonably healthy system.
If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their small intestines couldn't absorb nutrients.
The majority of the water from food and what we drink is reabsorbed through the colon, if our colons were clogged we would all be walking around looking like sponges right?
Detoxing is ridding the system - liver, kidneys, and intestines of toxins both internal and environmental. Our liver and kidneys aren't clogged with toxins. Otherwise we would be dead. The liver does in fact get layered with fat if we become overweight.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
A healthy high fiber diet works every time.
Increases the speed and efficiency of the digestive system and helps the body rid itself of both internal and environmental toxins.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
Search "gut flora" to learn about the beneficial bacteria we need in our colon.
We have more beneficial bacteria in our digestive systems than all the cells in our bodies!
A healthy digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system
They don't tell you about the gas, cramping, and bloating you will experience when you start eating again and the body has to rebuild this bacteria population.
Spend your money in the produce department.
      Good luck.

  18. QUESTION:
Can you recommend a cleanse that works quickly to remove sludge from body?
I tried the master cleanse and did not work, still very constipated after doing 2 salt water flushes and then felt VERY ill.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi there,

I have been in this business for quite a few years and have helped people with chronic ailments. I helped a young woman who had not been to the bathroom for 5 days and who had had a MIR Scan on the Monday and by Friday had still not managed to eliminate. I, on meeting her had commented on the color in her face and she proceeded to tell me her story. I told her to visit my home that afternoon and gave her three of the products that I thought would help her condition, namely Herbal Fiberblend, Composure and Herbal Release.

She went to the bathroom after only one and a half hours and I do believe that the same three products will help you too. I would like you to go to my website www.healthywithaim.com and look at the four videos, I have listed below. All these products can be taken at the same time, but not with meals --- half an hour later or before, will be fine. The fourth product that I have listed below is Para 90. This will be for a parasite cleanse. The reason I am giving you a few products to take is that I want it to work speedily for you. They are all safe to take and I use the products myself and am always so thrilled at the results.

      Check these articles out:

      http://www.healthywithaim.com/aim-articles/39-nutrition/166-article-hfb.html

The Herbal Fiberblend gently opens the colon as the gel within the product swells up, to make way for the movement. Remember to drink plenty of water when taking the products, at least 6 glasses throughout the day and also rest, VERY IMPORTANT. Each of the 17 herbs have a specific function. This product is also a food and cleanses the other organs, namely, liver, kidneys, pancreas, once it has cleansed the colon.

All these products can be ordered by going to the "ORDER AIM" on my website. In order to get the AIM products at wholesale prices, you will need to become an AIM Member. AIM membership is Free, when you purchase products with a BVP value of 50 points. Delivery is free when the order is a certain amount and can be collected the following day at your nearest Post Office. 20. QUESTION:
What is the best liver detox for someone with HCV x 20 years?
I'd like to know if there's a way to rid my liver of the effects of alcohol when I go out and have a few drinks.

    • ANSWER:
The medi-nerds are out in force I see here promoting their ignorance of detoxing. "Beware of detox scams?" Beware of ANTI-DETOX people. A liver gallbladder flush works wonders for the body and I have lots of people that I have helped with doing this type of cleanse. To say you can't detox the body is so ridiculous and only showing great ignorance.

John Hopkins researchers found intrahepatic gallstones in livers that are causing lots of problems for people. Typical medical diagnostics do not show these stones because they look like ordinary bile when using these tests. Autopsies were used to examine livers, etc. in the studies done by John Hopkins researchers. To remove these stones and gallstones is a very popular DETOXING flush that does remove the stones. I'm always anxious to hear from patients I put on this form of detoxing because the amount of stones that come out and the sizes are always shocking to these people. What I find is that many of these people take jars of their stones to show their doctors that lied to them, telling them detoxing does not work.

It takes several flushes to totally clean these organs, but the results are incredible. The skin becomes vibrant, the liver starts cleansing the blood better, producing better bile and all the health benefits are marvelous.

To prevent the problems with alcohol on the liver, you can take digestive enzymes that include all the pancreatic enzymes before drinking. You will not get a hangover the next day. Also, go to the health food store and purchase some prickly pear herbs and take those before going out.

A little alcohol will not hurt the average person, but excessive drinking will damage the liver and cause a huge build up of the intrahepatic gallstones that crate fatty livers.

The milk thistle herb will only have a very minor effect on the health of the liver, but it certainly won't hurt it either. Just don't expect great results from taking it.

      good luck to you

    • ANSWER:
      Patrice-
Colon cleansing has absolutely no medical benefit and is in fact harmful to the dietary tract. There is no "build up" of bad plaque in a normal system. We "cleanse" 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.

  23. QUESTION:
How many days is it safe to fast from food?
I am an emotional eater who has 2 basic levels, either can stay away from food completely, or binge. I have found fasting for a few days a week has really helped me gain control of myself, and then can eat healthy for several days afterward, but then bad cycle begins again, so I've started fasting weekly to keep the control. but am wondering howmany days can you do it safely. My deductible on health insurance is too high to try to see dr to ask. My stats are female age 41, weight 340 lbs, have lost 25 in past 3 months. no known health problems yet(the blood pressure cuff at walmart I check all the time and I am in the good range, amazing for someone at my weight). For physical activity I have a office job so I sit alot, but do regular housekeeping stuff and take care of family, don't sit on butt and watch tv all night. Do yard work on weekends and have a 2nd job 1 day a week that is driving. Walk about 3 times a week for a mile but not on days I am fasting.

    • ANSWER:
There is nothing wrong at all with fasting, especially if it helps you gain control of your eating problem. Here's an excerpt from a really good book I read, and the website below has great advice. Jesus Christ fasted as documented in the Bible, it wouldn't be there if as His example if it were bad for us.
Fasting can break many food addictions, such as coffee, sweets, alcohol, smoke and other bad habits
The natural process of toxin excretion continues, while the influx of new toxins is reduced, This results in a reduction of total body toxicity.
      • The energy usually used for digestion is redirected to immune function, cell growth, and eliminatory processes.
      • The immune system’s workload is greatly reduced, and the digestive tract is spared any inflammation due to allergic reactions to food.
      • Due to a lowering of serum fats that thins the blood; tissue oxygenation is increased and white blood cells are moved more efficiently.
      • Fat-stored chemicals, such as pesticides and drugs, are released.
      • Physical awareness and sensitivity to diet and surroundings are increased.
Due to these effects of fasting, a fast can help you heal with greater speed,’ cleanse your liver, kidneys, and colon,’ purify your blood,’ help you lose excess weight and water,’ flush out toxins,. clear the eyes and tongue,’ and cleanse the breath."

  25. QUESTION:
What should you eat when doing a whole body cleanse?
I am planning on doing an enzymatic cleanse after Thanksgiving and was wondering what should my diet consist of?

    • ANSWER:
I am on the Acai berry product right now and I have also done "the ultimate cleanse" as well ( at GNCfor .95). The one thing that people are not aware of is that when you do these, that healthy people only need to do one a year if that, and when you do them you need to drink extra water ( more than your daily amount) because it is pulling a lot of water out of your body and can dehydrate you which is very bad. You also need to be taking your vitamins and you may want to double them because the colon cleansers go through your liver and take out all of the vitamins and mineral that you need in your body because it doesn't know which ones you need. so double up at least on a multivitamin and take supplements of acidopholus( for your skin) and extra b's and c's along with a calcium-zinc-magnesium combination pill to help with bones and getting sick ( not that you will just as a precaution to keep from getting sick. Your face will probably break out because it is flushing out all of the toxins in your body. Along with the vitamins, you should stay away from fast food as much as possible and eat as much fresh fruits and veggies and lean meats as you can otherwise e you are defeating the purpose. hope this info helps you. from my personal experience it has helped me fell better and took about 6 lbs. off in a 2 week period. Good luck

  26. QUESTION:
What is the best type of food to eat after fasting?
I'm fasting to give something up for God and just cleanse myself. I haven't eaten since 9:00 last night and I want to continue at least until then or the next morning if I can make it. What should I eat to get my metabolism back in check? Would it be better to eat in the morning? Thanks! :)

    • ANSWER:
When fasting, the liver "borrows" certain amino acids from one's muscles. After fasting, the amino acids need to be replenished, so you need to eat plenty of complete protein. After fasting, the body's nutrient reserves are likely very low, so one should eat LOTS of green vegetables, as well.

  27. QUESTION:
How can I do a cheap colon cleanse?
I want to do a colon cleanse, but the stuff on the market is way out of my budget. If I just do some psyllium capsules and some pro-biotics (like acidophilus), will that work just as well as the expensive stuff like Evercleanse?

    • ANSWER:
Forget the colon cleanse. Your colon is clean. Detox is an alt med scam and can be dangerous.

TV show, "What's Good For You" recently tested detox products.

      Results:

Weight loss. One member of the detox group dropped out on day four as she was experiencing dizziness, headaches and nausea. In this time she lost almost 3kgs. The two other members of the detox group lasted the week — and lost 2.5kg and 4kg each. Our expert, Associate Professor Katherine Samaras of the Garvan Institute, believes the weight loss will be put straight back on. Plus the diet may have also altered the detoxers' metabolisms making it more difficult for them to lose weight in the future.

Blood tests. The blood tests showed decreased liver function in all members of the detox group. Their livers were shocked by the strict diet and weren't functioning very well. The blood tests also showed an increase in triglycerides (the bad blood fats that predict our risk to heart disease) and a decrease in the protective cholesterol.

      Conclusion
Within our group of six people the liquid detox diet did not help the body eliminate toxins. In fact, the diet did them more harm than good! The body is fantastically designed to eliminate by-products without needing any assistance at all. If you have overindulged Professor Samaras recommends a light healthy diet for one or two days to let your body recover.

      From Skepdic.com:
It's an irrational concept, yet an intriguing idea, that modern life so fills us with poisons from polluted air and food additives that we need to be periodically "cleaned out" ("detoxified"). Never mind that natural chemicals in our foods are thousands of times more potent than additives, or that most Americans are healthier, live longer, and can choose from the most healthful food supply ever available. -- Frances M. Berg, M.S.

Real detoxification of foreign substances takes place in the liver, which modifies their chemical structure so they can be excreted by the kidneys which filter them from the blood into the urine. --Stephen Barrett, M.D.

"Toxin" is classic pseudoscience terminology. --Ben Goldacre, M.D.

"...these detox programs amount to a large quantity of excrement, both literally and figuratively.” --Peter Pressman, M.D.

  28. QUESTION:
How to clean out your liver and kidneys?
So I heard this is the first tip to start losing weight.. What foods and drink will do that?

    • ANSWER:
You don't need to clean or cleanse them. Both the kidneys and the liver are part of the body's own filtering and cleansing system, and they do a wonderful job in the average, healthy person. The kidneys filter out waste and excrete this in urine, and the liver metabolises drugs and alcohol, amongst other things.

Just keep up your water intake, as this will make the filtering and excreting of waste more efficient.

  29. QUESTION:
What treatments are there for liver failure?
I am doing research on liver failure in people who overdose on acetaminophen. I was hoping I might find out what some of the treatments are, how long the person has to live without treatment, and what some of the signs and symptoms are.

    • ANSWER:
      HI Pepto

DO you mean like a disease like cirrhosis? These methods here will heal the issue and all other kinds of internal problems.

      Cause
Liver function can be impaired by a toxic bowel. Most pharmaceutical drugs, if taken on a consistent basis, can also cause liver disease. If you are on such medications, be sure to have your liver function monitored regularly (every 3-6 months) by your physician, and consider other healing alternatives that might reduce or eliminate your need for medications.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Juniper, rosemary, and rose essential oils can all help stimulate liver function.

Detoxification: Liver function can also be impaired by a toxic bowel. For this reason, bowel cleansing and rejuvenation techniques may be very important. In severe cases, repeat the bowel cleanse once a month, or as needed, and stay on bowel nutrients for up to one year depending on the severity of your condition and your response to treatment.

Diet: Diet is extremely important in preventing and reversing all forms of liver disease, including cirrhosis. Eat a low-protein, whole foods diet of organic foods, including seeds, nuts, whole grains, beans, nuts, and goat or rice milk, and also eat plenty of leafy green vegetables. Avoid all alcohol and processed fats such as margarine, hydrogenated oils, and foods with these oils added, rancid oils, and hardened vegetable fats. Instead, use cold-processed oils such as olive. Also increase your consumption of foods high in amino acids and potassium, such as nuts, seeds, bananas, raisins, rice, wheat bran, kelp, dulse, brewer`s yeast, and molasses, and drink plenty of pure, filtered water. Avoid animal protein as well as raw or undercooked fish, and limit your overall intake of fish.

Also avoid all stressors on the liver, such as overeating, drugs of any kind, a highly processed diet (especially one high in processed fats, additives and preservatives), and foods high in animal protein, and accumulation of toxins from chemicals that have to be processed by the liver such as alcohol, drugs, acetaminophen, insecticides, and chemicals from rancid and processed oils. Toxins from Candida yeast organisms within the body can also contribute to liver stress, as can the use of contraceptives.

Herbs: Milk thistle is an excellent herb to help in the treatment of cirrhosis because it helps liver cells regenerate. It may be taken in the form of tablets or the non-alcohol extract called a glycerate. The dose is based upon the content of silymarin (the active ingredient of milk thistle) and so standardized extracts are preferable. The typical dosage range is 70-200 mg of silymarin daily. The herb Picrorhiza kurroa is not as well-known as milk thistle, but may have similar effects. Licorice can also be helpful. The Chinese herb bupleurum (chai-hu) may also be helpful, as can the herbal mixture of kutki (200 mg), shanka pushpi (500 mg), and guduchi (300 mg), with is used by practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine to boost liver function. Take 1/4 teaspoon of this mixture taken twice a day, after lunch and dinner, with aloe vera juice.

Juice Therapy: The following juices can help the liver eliminate toxins that cause stress on it: beet and carrot juice and wheat grass juice. To either juice, you can add raw flaxseed oil and garlic as tolerated.

Nutritional Supplementation: Lipotrophic factor nutrients are essential for aiding liver function. These include vitamin C, vitamin E, silymarin, lipoic acid, and raw liver tablets. Other useful nutrients in this regard include vitamin B complex, vitamin B12, folic acid, niacin (in small doses such as 10-30 mg. three times), liver glandulars, digestive enzymes with hydrochloric acid (HCL) and ox bile extract, and the amino acids L-methionine, L-carnitine, L-cysteine, L-glutathione, and L-arginine.

Caution: For all cases of liver disease, do not use more than 10,000 IU of vitamin A daily and avoid cod liver oil entirely.

      Alternative Professional Care
If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating and relieving the symptoms of cirrhosis: Acupuncture, Cell Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Reflexology, Qigong, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

      Best of health to you

Drinks like Wheatgrass, Aloe vera juice, green tea, and white teas are excellent drink choices to boost your immune system. Holy tea is my favorite, since it also does a great job in cleansing my body and maintaining a healthy weight.

Whole grains like brown rice, millet, buckwheat, oats, and barley are also a valuable source of the vitamins, minerals and fiber that are an essential part of keeping the immune system healthy. Fiber helps cleanse the colon of toxins and helps prevent intestinal infections.

It is also important to avoid "bad" foods ("unprocessed" and "unrefined") that will weaken your immune system.

      Here is some suggestions:
Sugar contains no nutrients. Excessive sugar intake can deplete your body of several vitamins and minerals. Sugar impairs the ability of white blood cells to sweep up and kill bacteria. It also robs the body of key nutrients such as zinc that is vital for the immune function. Sugars food to avoid include soda pop, candy, many cereals, and ice cream.

      Coffee
Caffeine is a diuretic that contributes to the body's loss of important nutrients, such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. The acid in coffee eats away the villi of the small intestine, reducing their effectiveness in supporting nutrient assimilation.

Alcohol (when consumed in excess), is a poison to every system of your body. It depresses the nervous system, inhibits the bone marrow's ability to regenerate blood cells, is toxic to the liver, depletes B-vitamins, and is dehydrating.

Raw foods such as clams, oysters, sushi, very rare meats, and undercooked eggs contain infectious bacteria and intestinal parasites.

With the advent of pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizer and green harvesting, our fruits and vegetables lack vital nutrients. Today, it is necessary that our diet will need supplements to the food for the immune system.

  31. QUESTION:
Strep throat home remedies for a person with cirrhosis of the liver?
My bro has no insurance so he can't go to doctor. He has strep troath and needs some home remedies that won't hurt his cirrhosis of the liver?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Sol

I have healing remedies for both mentioned.

      Cause
Sore throats are usually caused by viral infections, but can also be due to bacterial infections, tonsillitis, overuse of the voice, exposure to irritating substances such as cigarette smoke, allergic reactions, infections of the mouth, and/or colds and flu.

Caution: Sore throats are rarely serious. However, if your sore throat does not heal within two weeks, and/or occurs with a rash, seek immediate medical attention. If any sore throat occurs with a rash, see a doctor. A sore throat caused by a Streptococcal infection (strep throat) must be identified and treated, or else it could create rheumatic fever or acute glomerulonephritis (disease of the glomerulus, a network of blood capillaries of the kidney).

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Inhalations with benzoin, lavender, thyme, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, clary sage, or sandalwood can help relieve symptoms.

Diet: Increase your intake pure filtered water, hot herbal teas, diluted fruit juices, and broths. Eat an organic whole foods diet that emphasizes fresh vegetables and vegetable soups. Avoid all sugars, alcohol, milk and dairy products and any and all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive. Raw organic honey placed at the back of the throat can also help soothe symptoms and speed healing.

      Flower Essences: Crab Apple.

Herbs: If your sore throat is due to an infection, chew a small piece of osha root (Ligusticum porteri) and/or gargle with an infusion of sage or licorice. For a sore throat due to smoke or pollution irritation, gargle with an infusion of lavender or hyssop. Other useful herbs include echinacea, garlic, ginger, goldenseal, and slippery elm.

Juice Therapy: Drinking the juice of one or two red potatoes can soothe symptoms.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients can be helpful: vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, and zinc (in the form of lozenges taken every 1-2 hours unless nausea occurs, in which case decrease dosage).

Caution: Serious cases of cirrhosis require immediate medical attention.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.
*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. The section Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Best of health to both of you

  32. QUESTION:
How long does it take your liver to detox?
I've been unhealthy for a while now. I eat fast food, take sleep aids, and drink alcohol on a regular basis.
Bottom line, my liver isn't in peak condition.

My question is how long does it take the liver to naturally cleanse itself? Does the length of an unhealthy lifestyle complicate the process?

    • ANSWER:
You've been sucked into a bunch of garbage pseudoscience. Your liver is constantly detoxifying the substances you put into it. Within a few hours of consuming alcohol, your liver has broken it down to harmless compounds and prepared it for excretion from the body.
Stop thinking in terms of "cleansing" the body. You've been abusing your body with this disgusting lifestyle, but that doesn't mean that you're "dirty," only that your body is overworked and run-down.

  33. QUESTION:
What foods should I be eating that contain iron?
I was told that I am anemic, and need to eat more foods that contain iron. What foods should I be eating?

    • ANSWER:
largest does of iron is a supplement given by your doctor but food wise it is spinach, don't eat liver. liver is what cleanses the body so it has every toxin in it that has ever traveled thru that body. ick you don't want that when cans of spinach and vitamins can help you

  34. QUESTION:
How much weight did you lose on the master cleanse (lemonade/maple syrup diet)?
Hi I am starting the master cleanse on Monday, would just like to know how much weight people have lost of it, any experiences and tips?

I do not want people to tell me not to do it am doing it anyway, I have read that I will put all weight I lose back on. I am not doing it for weight loss that is just a big bonus I am doing it to detoxify my body as I wish to turn vegan.

    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
I lost about 12 pounds and gained half of it back. I only did it for six days because I started to get paranoid that my body would start pulling nutrients out of my muscles and I got what I needed from it which was a clean slate. The weird thing was, and this may be kinda gross, but even though the body cleanses itself with liver, kidneys, waste, etc, I had corn coming out around the 5th day, and I hadn't eaten corn in a number of weeks. A lot of stuff, I realized, stays for awhile, so I felt that I did get flushed and did it to the point that I had nothing left to come out and that was when I stopped. The fourth day was the hardest, I reintroduced food with flavored broths and then softened veggies and it was okay. I only did the salt flush for two days because it was awful and I also did the tea but only for about four days. The cramping became too much after I had flushed out solids so I stopped that, and two days later stopped altogether because I didn't think I needed it longer. I drank water and tea, it was mainly a mind of matter thing, which was empowering in the end, because what you will yourself to do can be incredible. I did it once a year ago, since I have eaten well and am doing a triathlon this summer, so I'm training and on a well balanced meal plan. I survived it, had a fresh start, and stuck with good food choices afterwards. Good luck!

  35. QUESTION:
Are you supposed to do a cleanse before starting slimquick?
I'm about to start slimquick, I want to lose 10-15 pounds by June. I got the kind that comes in a blue box, it says slimquick fat burner, clinical strength. It came with a little brochure thing with sample diet and exercise plans. It also has a sample cleanse plan too, so am I supposed to do that? The directions don't say anything about a cleanse, but does it enhance or accelerate the affects?

    • ANSWER:
I would not do Slimquick! I tried it for several months, I didn't lose much and my liver enzymes were elevated horribly with no real explanation at the time. When I stopped it for a few months and got my blood work redone my liver enzymes were fine again! Talk about a horrible scare!

I started a new diet last Sunday (one week ago) and I'm down 10 pounds - could be mostly water weight but I'll take anything and it's working great and I'm not hungry like I thought I would be.
I eliminated starches such as pasta, bread, potatoes and I'm only eating meats (fish/chicken), eggs, fruits, veggies and nuts. Eliminate diet sodas and sugars! This is all in Phase 1 of my new diet and then in Phase 2 you're allowed one or two meals per week that allow you to eat whatever you want such as chocolate cake or pizza... You should consult a physician before you do anything since everyone is different but eliminating trigger foods for me has been successful. I've done other programs that made you track what you ate and calculate calories - they worked but it wasn't a long-term solution. So far I'm eating better and I haven't been hungry all week. Drink water and you can have unsweetened iced tea or coffee - try to limit dairy as well. You should also eliminate a large portion of dairy as well such as a lot of cheese and heavy cream sauces.

So far I'm loving it and I'm hopeful that this will work well for me!

  36. QUESTION:
What is the best body cleanse geared toward weight loss?
I am not overweight at this time but more or less, a little unhappy with the weight I have around my stomach, hips and thighs. I am going to the beach in two weeks and would like to do a cleanse to help jump start some weight loss. I have started running/walking 2 miles everyday about a week ago. I have read about a lot of different 48 hours cleanses but I need to get a better idea of what will actually work.

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Brook p

If you are looking to lose weight, burn fat, and rid your body and your colon of harmful toxins, you may be interested in trying a colon cleanse diet. The point of this diet is to eat foods high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, in order to free your body of the toxins that enter our body during the course of the day through things like processed food, alcohol, and pollutants in the air. It is also meant to free your colon of nasty build up which contains a high concentration of toxins as well.

When done correctly, these diets can be very helpful to your overall health. They contain foods high in nutrients, which will make you feel more energetic and alert naturally. Your overall body and mind will feel more healthy and your stress levels will go down as well.

On top of the above benefits, these diets can help prevent sicknesses like cancer and other health problems. They will decrease your risk of heart attack, liver disease, and many other illnesses. You can help restore cells in your body and prevent any other damage from occurring.

If you are faced with a substance abuse problem, alcohol problem, or smoking addiction, a cleansing diet may be what you need to free your body of the harmful build up of toxins in your body that keep your dependence on them going. With an alcohol problem, for example, over time the alcohol builds up in your body and your tolerance for it goes up. This means that after a while, you are forced to drink more and more to get intoxicated, which in turn causes you to put more toxins into your body, and over time the problem gets worse and worse. If you think of alcohol just as you think of any other toxin or free radical in your body, you will see how a colon cleansing diet can help you with your problem.

So, now that you know the basics of the cleansing diet, you know that it helps you not only to free yourself of toxins and other free radicals that are roaming around in your body, but that it can help you lose weight, burn fat, and restore cells in your body as well.

  37. QUESTION:
Would a liver cleanse as well as a colon cleanse take away any cravings for sugar?
I was wondering with any cleanse would it take away any cravings for junk food.

If so I was going to do one this weekend but I would like to know health perspectives of others!

    • ANSWER:
There is no therapeutic effect to any colon cleanse or liver cleanse regimen. This is all a marketing ploy. I am a nurse and I work in the Gastroenterology Field. Any Gastro doctor will tell you it's a waste of time and money.

  38. QUESTION:
How much weight will i lose on the master cleanse diet?
I want to lose some weight asap i'm considering trying the master cleanse diet but around how much would i lose?

    • ANSWER:
There is a diet called the The Fat Flush plan by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman. I lost 10 lbs in two weeks and I was not even following it to a tee. This doctor's diet is centered around cleaning out your liver and getting rid of the toxins so that it can process and burn calories better. Our liver is what helps us burn calories but if it is all junked up with fast food and junk food and sodas, it will not process the fat correctly, thus burn more calories.

  39. QUESTION:
i want to start the master cleanse diet but i dont know where to start?
i don't know if were allowed to eat. and what are the symptoms. how long should i do this. anyting so would you give me any information to help start. anyone who did the master cleanse would be better.

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
The lemon detox/master cleanse diet you are referring to is a calorie deficit program.
You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult American has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose around 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system.
So it does work. but it does not change your size.
Additionally, many toxins are stored in our fat cells so in order to truly "detox", you need to lose excess body fat as well.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
Did you know the digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system?
They don't tell you about the gas, cramping, and bloating you will experience when you start eating again and the body has to rebuild this bacteria population.
Spend your money in the produce department.
      Good luck.

  41. QUESTION:
What is the best way to naturally detox the body?
What calories, foods, and liquids are necessary? Supplements not too pricey?

    • ANSWER:
FASTING - Cleansing of the inner body. Don't be mistaken by the word FASTING. It's not a measure of starvation but inner Detoxification of your body. :D

The three ways our bodies handle toxins are neutralizing, transforming or eliminating them. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. The liver transforms toxic substances into harmless agents. And blood carries waste to the kidneys or liver, eliminating through the bladder or intestines. Elimination can also occur through sweating during exercise or heat. These are only a few examples of the built-in cleaning mechanisms, working hard to maintain the thousands of miles of tubes and membranes. If all these systems are working well, and we are taking in fewer toxins than the body can detoxify; the result will be vibrant health and long life.

      The Result
      Ø Mental clarity is improved

Ø Rapid, safe weight loss is achieved without flabbiness

Ø The nervous system is balanced

      Ø Energy level is increased

      Ø Organs are revitalized

      Ø Cellular biochemistry is harmonized

Ø The skin becomes silky, soft, and sensitive

Ø There is greater ease of movement

Ø Breathing becomes fuller, freer and deeper

Ø The digestive system is given a well-deserved rest

People testify that after making changes toward better eating, fasting becomes easier. You could say fasting is a measure of lifestyle.

      METHODS OF DETOXIFICATION

      Juice Fasting

This is the best choice for detoxification because it supplies an abundance of nutrients, including enzymes and calories to reduce the cleansing intensity to a more comfortable level. Using an enema during a juice fast will flush the lymphatic system attached to the lower colon with water and help remove hardened fecal matter from the intestinal wall, while giving the digestive tract a chance to rest and heal.

      Water Fasting

Water fasting demands more calories therefore cleansing will be intensified.

      Raw Food Diet

The same cleansing reaction that is experienced on a juice fast will also be experienced on a raw food diet of fruit and vegetables but the process is slower.

      Eating Less

This is a good way to start the detoxification process but can require the greatest discipline. Chew food 30 times and eat smaller amounts.

      Vegetarian Eating

A light vegetarian diet will also aid detoxification. For example, fruit for breakfast, a salad for lunch and a meal of cooked vegetables with some raw nuts or beans and brown rice for dinner.

      Exercise

During exercise the lymphatic system is being flushed and the cells are being flooded with health-giving oxygen. Walking, stretching and light exercise can benefit the body during a juice fast or cleansing diet.

Best of luck on cleansing your body. :D

  42. QUESTION:
what does it mean when ur liver enzymes are extremely high?
i need help.i went 2 the docters twice and they said my liver enzyms are high what does it mean?could it be harmfull and what do i do 2 lower it.

    • ANSWER:
The liver enzymes are known as ALT and AST. You
      can read about them here:
      http://www.labtestsonline.org

      These enzymes could be elevated if you drink alcohol;
are taking certain medications; are coming in contact
      with chemicals; have developed a virus in your body;
or the tube like structures that lead from the liver, known
      as ducts, become blocked..malformed...or twisted.
It can even be caused by hereditary conditions also.

The ALT enzyme is made in the liver and pertain mostly
to the liver, the AST is made in the liver but also other
organs as well. Alk Phos is an enzyme that can be
elevated if the bile ducts have a problem.
These enzymes are stored inside the liver cell...if the cell becomes damaged, they are released.
When liver cell damage occurs, the liver may have
inflammation. This can be treated and the cells and liver
can heal. However, if it isn't treated, this will eventually
lead to death of the liver cells...known as cirrhosis.
You can read more about it here:
      http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cirrhosis/DS00373

There are usually two sets of tests the doctors do:
the liver enzymes to see if there is potential damage and
liver function tests to see if the liver is able to perform
the function it usually does to help the body be healthy.
Other tests are done if they think you contacted a virus:
      like Hep A,B, or C.

You asked what you can do: this may pertain to you or
      it may not.
(1)Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol is the number one reason
      for liver damage.
(2)Don't take any medications except what the doctor authorizes. Many medications, over the
counter, herbs, herbal teas, are hard on the liver. Be sure
to tell the doctor about these and any other medications
that are being prescribed to you by other doctors.
Most medications go through the liver first, when they
enter the body, to be processed.
      (3) If you are gaining weight, try to lose some...some people
      develop fatty livers.
(4)Stay away from chemicals, like carbon tetrachloride.
(5)Try to stay clear of others who are sick...your body may be trying to heal and you don't want an added strain on it right now. Use hand cleaners when you cannot wash your hands after touching things others have touched. Or that they may
blow on, like a child blowing out birthday candles.
(6)Eat well and eat foods that give your body
all the nourishment, vitamins, and minerals it needs.
Only take vitamin and mineral supplements if your doctor
recommends them. Wash all foods others handle, like
fresh fruits and stay clear of communal foods, like salad

  43. QUESTION:
What is a good cleanse / detox for a beginner?
I love to work out at a fairly high intensity, and I do a pretty good job of eating healthy. I am really interested in doing a cleanse, but I want to be able to continue to work out while I am on it. A lot of the ones I have seen suggest that you work out at a low intensity, so I was hoping some one could point me i the right direction. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It does not work for detox purposes and it is an extremely unhealthy way to try to lose fat. It's no more than a really bad fad.

"Detox" is short for detoxification and detoxification is a natural process involving your liver and kidneys and there is nothing you can do to effect it. It is impossible to detoxify a human once the toxin is in the blood with the possible exception of kidney dialysis, kelation therapy, and other expensive medical therapies. Currently "detox" is a faddist word, relatively meaningless, and is used to express that which the users cannot otherwise express because of ignorance of because the expression would be patently false.

Detox diets, cleanses, and supplements don't work. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don't work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

Check out these reliable references. Listen to experts, not a random bunch of strangers of unknown credibility in this and other forums. Here's what the experts have to say about cleanses.

Your body cleanses itself naturally. And cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, alternative and homeopathic colon cleanses etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat and/or toxins. If fat is your problem, you're eventually going to realize that nothing works except a proper diet for life or surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn't changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

Detoxification is a fad and a fantasy only. If you have reason to believe you're toxic, consult with your doctor. Don't waste your time paying attention to advertising hype, naturopathic gurus, homeopathic charlatans, etc. The road to good health is paved with science. If you or someone you love gets deathly ill, you will take them to a place where medical science is practiced. So, where is the sense in abandoning medical science in favor of baseless and unscientific methods of quacks and charlatans.

      Good luck and good health!!

  44. QUESTION:
What are the benefits of a cleansing diet? Should I go on one?
Ok so I've done a little research and haven't found any evidence that conclusively proves or disprove cleansing diets and, to be honest, the evidence for them and scientific reasoning sounds very vague and unconvincing. I'm attempting to pass a fitness test in 10 days would a cleanse be worth it? I wonder if the benefits of the cleanse outweigh the loss of protein in my diet. by the way I'm 19 6 foot 1 inch( 180 or so cm) and 203 pounds, so a little overweight.

    • ANSWER:
You are really just looking at a painful and drawn out way to empty your entire digestive tract.
Detox and cleanse diets are calorie deficit programs.
You will lose weight on this diet. The average adult American has eight meals in their digestive system. Five more than they should. By going on a deficit diet like this you can lose around 10 pounds just by not eating. But it is only the weight of the food in your digestive system.
The signal these starvation diets send the body is that there is no more food available. The body immediately stores any fat it can and begins to convert muscle and even organ tissue first for fuel instead of the stored fat. Stored fat will be used as a last resort when needed.
The liver and other organs can get layered with fat if we are overweight.
We "cleanse and detox" naturally 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
Did you know the digestive system is one of the largest contributors to our immune system?
They don't tell you about the gas, cramping, and bloating you will experience when you start eating again and the body has to rebuild this bacteria population.
Spend your money in the produce department.
      Good luck.

  45. QUESTION:
How do you cleanse your body from all the junk food and crapp ?
the past weeks I been eating so much junk food ever since giving up on my diet.. what can i do?
I can feel that I gained so much weight..

    I'm 15, 5'2, 120 pounds, female.

    • ANSWER:
You are not full of 'crap'.

Anyone interested in detoxifying their body might think about paying a little more attention to their body and less attention to the people trying to get their money. The body already has nature's most effective detoxification system. It's called the liver. The liver changes the chemical structure of foreign compounds so they can be filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, which then excrete them in the urine.

  46. QUESTION:
What are good foods to eat to help with acne ?
i want to go on an acne diet but what are good foods to help clear your acne please help thanks !

    • ANSWER:
      1. Olive oil:

Olive oil provides good fats that our bodies need. Oils like olive oil and sesame oil have essential fat acids that are required for good health. These nourish our skin from the inside out.

      2. Green tea:

Rich in a chemical called catechins which is an anti-inflammatory. It helps prevent acne as well as reduce the signs of aging.

      3. Seeds and Nuts:

Seeds and nuts are rich in Omega 3 oils. These oils are also found in oily fish like salmon, and in flaxseed oil. Omega 3 oils are a powerful antioxidant which help the skin remain supple.

      4. Lemon water:

Lemon water helps to stimulate and detoxify the liver and expel fat deposits. It also helps your body to produce more enzymes in the liver to help with detoxification. Because the liver helps remove toxins from your body, it can not remove toxins which are pushed through your skin. This means those toxins become prime breeding grounds for bacteria that cause acne. In order to survive acne causing bacteria need specific conditions to breed, those are areas with low oxygen and high acid levels. The minerals in lemons help offset the acid pockets that can form in our skin.

      5. Garlic:

Garlic helps to lower our bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, called HDL. It also helps reduce toxins like lemon water does. So by reducing the toxins, we lessen the possibility of providing the required breeding grounds for acne.

      6. Watermelon:

As odd as it might sound, the pulp of watermelon is a good exfoliate. Taking that in mind some people will rub the their face with the rinds of the watermelon which is also high in vitamins A, B, and C. It also contains a lot of water which helps to keep the skin properly hydrated.

      7. Water:

Water is the most important aspect of keeping your body hydrated. Water will also help cleanse your body of the toxins that could build up. Some experts say that to determine how many ounces of water you should drink everyday, divide you body weight by 2, and that is how many ounces you should drink.

      8. Wheatgrass:

You can find this in just about every store that carries a selection of vitamin supplements. There are numerous health benefits for wheatgrass, many of which help with preventing acne.

      9. Yogurt:

Yogurt contains high concentrations of a good bacteria call Lactobacillus Acidophilus. This is commonly called a Probiotic. Probiotic microbes fight against infectious diseases by competing for the food and nutrients acne bacteria require to survive.

Closely related to this category are Prebiotics. Prebiotics help re-establish good bacteria in the stomach. Examples include honey, onions, artichokes and bananas.

      10. Barley:

Barley is high in both soluble and insoluble fibers. Soluble fiber helps the body metabolize fat, cholesterol, and carbohydrates. Insoluble fiber promotes healthy digestion; most people refer to eating insoluble fiber as "eating the roughage." Barley also contains high levels of Vitamin E which helps kill acne quickly.

can you substitute sea salt for epsom salt while on the lemonade master cleanse?
My friend is starting the lemonade master cleanse. She doesn't know what kind of salt water flush to use and neither do I. She was told to use the sea salt but it wasn't really do the job. So she heard that the Epsom salt would work better but I thought that was used for the liver cleanse. Should she use that or the sea salt. Also what are some brand types for the sea salt?

You can use either sea or epsom salt for the flush. I would advise using the epsom salts because you will have MUCH better eliminations with the epsom salts.

I would also suggest you read an article on the Master Cleanse. I read it and found the information to be extremely helpful.

How does a total body cleanse work?
I have seen these products at my health food store. I was wondering what you do & how it works...and how it makes you feel. Any info. you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi There,

A good total body cleanse involves changing your diet to simple fresh foods and taking some herbal supplements that cleanse the small and large intestines, liver and kidneys. The process usually lasts between 5 and 15 days and can be done by pretty much anyone.

Most people report feeling lighter, clearer and revitalized after completing a total body cleanse. This is because their organs of elimination are working better and also because they have detoxified their bodies.

Here is the total body cleanse that works the best in my experience (I've done about 10 different ones).

  50. QUESTION:
What are some ways to give your body a fresh start?
What are some ways to rid your body of toxins/bad things?

I want to completely start over and cleanse my body so it can have a fresh start. Besides drinking water, what are some ways to completely replenish/refresh/restart yourself (anything, really. Just no marketing scams. I don't want to have to spend money on this or anything).

and once I do, what are things I should keep from consuming, etc?

    • ANSWER:
I am glad someone cares that much about there body and wants to be heathy =) here are somethings to eat to re fresh your body
Green leafy vegetables Eat them raw, throw them into a broth, add them to juices. Their chlorophyll helps swab out environmental toxins (heavy metals, pesticides) and protects the liver.

Lemons You need to keep the fluids flowing to wash out the body and fresh lemonade is ideal. Its vitamin C, considered the detox vitamin, helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that's easily flushed away.

Watercress Put a handful into salads, soups, and sandwiches. The peppery little green leaves have a diuretic effect that helps move things through your system. And cress is rich in minerals too.

Garlic Add it to everything -- salads, sauces, spreads. In addition to the bulb's cardio benefits, it activates liver enzymes that help filter out junk.

Green tea This antioxidant-rich brew is one of the healthiest ways to get more fluids into your system. Bonus: It contains catechins, which speed up liver activity.

Broccoli sprouts Get 'em at your health-food store. They pack 20 to 50 times more cancer-fighting, enzyme-stimulating activity into each bite than the grown-up vegetable.

Sesame seeds They're credited with protecting liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. For a concentrated form, try tahini, the yummy sesame seed paste that's a staple of Asian cooking.

Cabbage There are two main types of detoxifying enzymes in the liver; this potent veggie helps activate both of them. Coleslaw, anyone?

Psyllium A plant that's rich in soluble fiber, like oat bran, but more versatile. It mops up toxins (cholesterol too) and helps clear them out. Stir powdered psyllium into juice to help cleanse your colon, or have psyllium-fortified Bran Buds for breakfast.

Fruits, fruits, fruits They're full of almost all the good things above: vitamin C, fiber, nutritious fluids, and all kinds of antioxidants. Besides, nothing tastes better than a ripe mango, fresh berries, or a perfect pear.
