Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Do detoxifying teas from a Chinese herbalist really work?
An accupuncturist around the corner form my house has a little shoppe where you can purchase many Chines remedies. I bought a tube of something for acne, and it has helped. I also bought a box of Life Rising, Detox tea. It's supposed to clear toxins from your body, smooth bowel movements, maintain normal weight, and enhance skin beauty.

Any feedback on this kind of therapy?
Also, can anyone who's familiar with this sort of thing recommend a chinese herb for depression?

    • ANSWER:
The short answer is yes, Traditional Chinese Medicine is effective. That's why it has been around for thousands of years.
But before you try a herb for depression, you should have a diagnosis by a qualified TCM practitioner. What is recommended for you may be different for someone else with the same condition.

The diagnosis should be inexpensive and consist of taking your pulse, looking at your tongue and asking some questions.

That probably sounds like it wouldn't be valid, but when I had it done she knew I had asthma when I was a kid, but grew out of it, of course I never told her anything like that. She mentioned some other things that were spot on as well.

When I went for accupuncture for a bad back, it was 80% better right away, and 100% within a week.

  2. QUESTION:
What are the benefits Of drinking Chinese herbal tea?
I Drink Chinese tea a lot and I an aware it does benefit you in some manner? I really don't Know all the scientific benifits and stuff ,

How does Chinese tea benefit you in Health???

does it Help your skin? health brain anything???

    • ANSWER:
      Hi

I suppose it depends what sort of Chinese tea you are drinking.

The best known Chinese tea is Green tea. This is known to be anti-oxidant and also has anti-cancer properties. It is better than normal black tea which undergoes processing under strong heat.

An anti-oxidant neutralizes damaging free radicals which can damage our DNA. The anti-cancer properties are self explanatory.

I drink Green tea daily and probably have three large cups daily. As well as being healthy in itself, it stops me wanting normal (black) tea in which I would have milk. (I think milk is best avoided.)

To help brain and skin make sure you have enough exercise, and a good diet - high in vegetables, salads and fruit. On top of this, I believe it's good to have a detox now and again, to keep your detox organs - colon, liver, kidneys - working well. A 90-day programme can work well; or a 30 day one can be good too.

  3. QUESTION:
What is the slimming tea that Victoria Beckham drinks?
I've read in a womans magazine that a chinese herbal tea is good for helping you slim down as well as detoxing your body, the only thing is i can't remember the name of it or where i can buy it from. So if anyone can help i would appreciate it. I live in the UK so if i can buy it from a hebal shop please let me know. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
After seeing recent pictures of Posh Spice, I think that whatever she's been taking is not good as she's anorexic looking. Seriously, she used to be pretty hot in her Spice Girls days but now she's a farking skeleton.

Now as for the entire "detox" thing, your body does a good job of detoxifying itself regardless of what hippies and new agers tell you. So unless you're living in a mine filled with heavy metals and you're taking in twice the amount a day that people should be taking in a year, you don't need detoxing.

  4. QUESTION:
What vitamins supplements/natural remedies are dangerous during pregnancy?
I'm currently on HEAPS of vitamins such as zinc, vitamin c, a, c10 etc as well as a chinese medicine immune-boosting tonic, as am recovering from galndular fever and recurring viruses. I'm hoping to become pregnant soon, as was wondering which ones to keep and which ones to stop if i were to fall pregnant

    • ANSWER:
Herbs are consider unsafe during pregnancy because not enough research has been done on them but there is no reason why you should stop them until you are pregnant. If you are able to stop the herbs, I would do so the month you start ttc.
I would just take a multivitamin like Centrum (or find one that has all the things it has in it). Centrum contains vitamins and minerals that our bodies need for fertility like selenium and copper. Don't take the others (unless the C10 is actually CoQ10, that's also great for fertility as well as your heart).

Vitamin A over 10,000 before pregnancy and over 6,000 during pregnancy is know to cause birth defects.
Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble meaning they are stored in your fat cells so it's easy to have too much.
Other others are water soluble and eliminated by the body mostly through urine so they can be taken at higher dosage prior to pregnancy but not at pregnancy.
The only thing you should take during pregnancy is a prenatal vitamin and omega 3.

Here's other things that boost fertility--

Coral calcium (helps increase cm but you have to take it with water. Water helps absorption)
      PABA 300 mg
DHEA 75 mg (makes ovaries behave youthful again after 3 months of taking)
EPO and DHA (omega oils needed for fertility)
Arginine (increases circulation to ovaries and uterus)
Glutathione (an intracellular antioxidant found surrounding the egg before ovulation to protect the developing egg)
Manganese (known as the maternal mineral. Lack causes infertility)
Royal jelly (super food for cells)
Coenzyme Q10 (for heart and circulation)
Milk thistle and dandelonn (detox liver & improve toxic elimination in body)
      Pycnogenol (super anti-oxident)
Alpha Lipoic acid (aids certain vitamins in body)
      Green tea (anti-oxident)
Chlorophyll (balances insulin and feeds cells)
      Taurine (fertility amino acid)
Acetyl L-Carnitine (amino like compound found in growing egg)
      Grape seed (aids fertility)

And EVERYTHING that is found in the multi-vitamin called Centrum.

Eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids. Stay away from things that degrade the growing egg-- sugar (even the sugar found in milk is toxic to developing follicle), white carbs, alcohol, caffine (it causes cortisol and inbalanced insulin levels), smoking, and any type of unnatural chemicals (natural meaning baking soda and vingar to clean) and fumes.

  5. QUESTION:
Any great ways to detox the body?
I'm looking to detox my body from the impacted meats and air born microbes that I'm sure are jammed in there. I'm looking for a natural detox to do at home (forget the water and Juice fasting techniques). Herbal drugs are are okay, but I'm not going to spend on some chalky detoxing crap that pot smokers use to pass urine tests.

Now I eat pretty healthy, drink around 60oz of water a day and exercise about 4 times a week. But I know I have impacted stuff in there, and looking to break it up, and I've been getting sick more often lately, so just looking for a "body restart"

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    • ANSWER:
      1. Detox Diets:
Diet is an important part of detox. Vegetarian diets are the best naturally for detoxifying the body. Due to the fact that meat takes a lot of energy and enzymes to digest it. Also vegetables and fruit which vegetarians eat a lot of contain high amounts of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes which help the body cleanse itself.

Chorophyl which is what gives plants their green colour is very detoxifying. Eating vegetables that are very green like spinach will help you get the chlorophyl you need.
Adding spirulina to your diet will also greatly enhance your bodies ability to detox and heal. Spirulina will help speed the metabolism, and is very easy to digest due to it's very basic spiral cell structure. Spirulina is a type of blue/green algae that is full of amino acids (protein), minerals, anti-oxidants, and enzymes.

      2. Detox Baths:
Salt Baths are an excellent way to detoxify the body. The salt will help clear toxins and lactic acid through the skin. Lactic acid causes aches in the muscles. It is good to take a detoxification bath once a week while on a cleanse or detox program. Otherwise once a month is good for maintenance.
Use 1/2 cup of baking soda, or 1/2 cup of epsom salt, or 1/2 cup of sea salt.
Adding a smoky quartz crystal to the bath water with help detoxification.
      Soak for 15-20 minutes.
Scrub skin gently with a natural fiber scrubber (Loofa sponges work great).
The water will turn murky due to toxins such as heavy metals coming out of the skin.

      3. Saunas, Steam Rooms, & Sweat Lodges:
These are also excellent ways to remove toxins from the body through sweating them out. The high temperatures in saunas, steam rooms, and sweat lodges cause your muscles to relax which will allow those cells to release any toxins they were holding when they were tense. When your body is heated up to high temperatures you will sweat, and sweat is a natural way that your body rids itself of built up toxins. The sweat will safely remove these toxins from your body.
Taking cayenne, ginger, lemon, and/or lemongrass will also help the body expell toxins through sweating. Taking any of these in tea form before or during your sweat lodge, steam room, or sauna sessions will greatly facilitate the cleansing process. Also showering after a sweat is important to make sure you've rinsed away any toxins that were eliminated.

      4. Tongue Cleansing:
Whenever you go to sleep at night, your body will go into a deep state of healing and will work to remove toxins out of your body through your tongue. When you wake up with bad breath, that is a sign that you have released many toxins through your tongue. This can be seen as varying colours typically white, yellow, or brownish on your tongue. Ayurvedic and Chinese doctors sometimes diagnose people according to the colour of toxins eliminated through the tongue.
It is important to clean your tongue in the morning before eating breakfast to avoid re-ingesting those toxins. To do this you can simply use a toothbrush to brush your tongue clean of the toxins released. Even better is to use an ayurvedic tongue cleaner. This is a device usually made of metal that is shaped with a loop that rakes over your tongue pulling off all the toxins.

      5. Juice Fasting:
Juice fasting is an incredible way to detox and heal the body quickly. 30% of our bodies energy is devoted to digesting our food. When we fast we give our consistently hard working digestive system a break and free up that extra 30% of energy which gets re-directed to detoxifying and healing the body.
Drinking vegetable and fruit juices are very cleansing and healthy. They are full of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes all of which are very important for helping the body to detoxify and cleanse. You are also able to drink much more juice than you would be able to eat from fresh fruits and vegetables. For example, you can juice and drink the nutrients from 3 large carrots and a couple of heads of lettuce easily, whereas it would be harder to sit down and eat them all fresh without getting full.
It is good general body upkeep to fast on a regular basis such as once a week 1-day fasts, or doing longer fasts/cleanses (3-12days) around the Spring or Fall Equinoxes. If you are planning a 3-day or more juice fast, I recommend consulting a health professional first to see if it is right for you and your body type and to make sure you will be getting the right nutrients. I also recommend adding Gelatinized Maca powder, Ayurvedic Herb: Shilajit, or spirulina to your juices or smoothies to increase your mineral, and vitamin intake.

      6. Herbal Teas:
Herbal teas are also an important part of a juice fast. By taking herbal teas that help cleanse and detox the body, you will greatly facilitate the healing process. Recommended herbal teas for juice fasting are: dandelion, fennel, licorice, ginger, cayenne, peppermint, goldenseal, juniper berry, chamomile, red clover.

      7. Detox Herbs
There are a variety of herbal supplements one can take to help detox the body. I'll just list some of the main ones here: dandelion, goldenseal, milk thistle, neem, anantmul, tulsi, and manjistha. DETOX is a general organ cleanser and tonic, specifically including kidneys, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Cleanses heavy metals and other poisons, such as mercury, lead, alcohol and a deficiency of the vitamin B complex, especially thiamin, from the blood, nerves and cells. A thiamin deficiency results in the impairment of nerve tissue so that it cannot utilize carbohydrates for energy. Also, DETOX is very good for providing a complete cleansing of the small intestine. Excellent for taking, following any intense experience of stress.

      8. Detox Foot Pouches:
A wonderful and very easy way to detoxify while you sleep is by using a detox foot pouch. This is a wonderful method used by the Chinese and other Asian doctors. It is quite simply a small pouch filled with mandarin wood vinegar, tourmaline, and germanium. This pouch when placed on the foot creates a chemical reaction that causes the pouch to emit far infrared energy that stimulates the body's meridians and circulation of blood and lymph. This greatly helps the system detoxify and the pouch will then absorb toxins released by the body. These pouches are specifically placed on the foot's reflexology points to target specific areas of the body for stimulation and detoxification. They can also be placed on other acu-points on the body with similar results.

      good luck

  6. QUESTION:
Has anyone tried any natural herbal supplements to help with kindey stones?
I have suffered with kidney stones for over 2 years. I have spent so much money on doctors and testing, yet I'm still nowhere and in pain- I cant take it anymore. I have found a few supplments online that are supposed to dissolve kidney stones. Most are Chinese herbs that are imported and not regulated by the FDA. Has anyone tried this? Does it work? Is it safe?? I'm desparate!!!

    • ANSWER:
Nothing can dissolve kidney stones. I too looked into these products and came across Kidney Dr. and Uriflow. Both are overpriced products that are not guaranteed to work.

Leaving those aside, I did research herbs and herbal remedies as well. Frankly, it's quite confusing. Everything you read points you to something different! There were some commonalities between sources and I finally chose 4 that I was going to try - dandelion, goldenrod, cranberry and corn silk (zea mays). These herbs have diuretic (and thus detoxing) effects, so be sure not to take any licorice at the same time. And also be sure to double your liquid intake when using these.

You could probably go to a vitamin store and buy a "detox" tea. They're likely to contain diuretic herbs that'll essentially do the same thing. And they'll be less expensive than those other products.

But really the best thing is just copious amounts of water or other liquids. Not soda, but things like juices or lemonade. You don't mention it but you're probably already drinking a lot. If not, you should be! Try to take in 2-4 quarts per day.

My research also led me to fiber, fish oils, magnesium and B6. I asked my urologist about those and about diuretics and he said "pffft." He thought fiber and magnesium would be fine, but his idea is that since people rarely stick with these things, drinking the water is the best thing you can do.

It has effects on your system that you wouldn't realize and it's probably the easiest thing to maintain long term.

It won't hurt you to try any herbal remedies, but research them carefully. There are some, like St. John's Wort, that everyone started taking without realizing that it has some serious side effects. So just learn about what you plan to take.

  7. QUESTION:
Could you outline some 100% natural colon cleansers that have no side effects?
I just want to detox naturally but i have read some adverse feedback against some colon cleansers.

    • ANSWER:
"Colon Cleansers" have been debunked as a myth. The icky evacuation they cause, claimed to be the "gunk lining your colon" is actually caused by the so called "cure" and is not in you.

Your body "detoxes" itself constantly. Drinking lots of water will do NOTHING to speed the process, despite what some fools believe.

      http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/gastro.html

To detox naturally, start with a magnesium citrate laxitive to help clear and serious blockages. Then, just follow this up with a healthy diet with plenty of fiber. Eat rasin bran, cheerios, oatmeal and other whole grain cereals for breakfast.
Make sure lunch and dinner are balanced meals. snack on fruits and veggies. Drink fruit juices and teas and avoid soda and coffee. Alcohol should be avoided while detoxing. Taking a good multi-vitamin helps.

I've used cleansing teas and things will come out of your body. Do a tea cleanse once a week, it's very gentle, you aren't on the toilet all day. There is no need to buy fancy and/or expensive preparations. Detox tea availible on your supermarket shelf at a reasonable price. It contains basically the same stuff you'd get from a chinese herbalist or holistic practitioner.

      Good Luck :-)

  8. QUESTION:
How to get rid of sodium from the body?
I just ate Chicken w/Broccoli and white rice A.K.A Chinese Sodium Attack and I'm a little worried about if I'm going to gain weight (Hoping to lose a bit) due to the water weight of all the salt. My first initiative is to do 45 minutes of exercise biking indoors because that's a good fat burner, but how can I detox myself of all this sodium I must have had? I think drinking water will help but I have no idea. Help ASAP. (:

    • ANSWER:
You're exactly right. The best way to get rid of sodium in the body is to drink lots of water. Get a good water bottle and keep it with you at all times (in your backpack, on your desk at work, near the TV at home). I have several that I keep in places like I listed above.

If you drink tea or coffee these are diuretics which means they gets rid of excess water in the body (that's why you pee more when you drink these two things). You may want to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and also have a daily glass of tea or coffee.

  9. QUESTION:
How can you speed up your metabolism?
Are there certain foods, exercises, ect. that speed up your metabolism?
I diet and exercise, but I also have a really slow metabolism. I was wondering if there was anything that might help me out a little.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
MSG (Mono-Sodium Glumate), high fructose corn syrup and other processed ingredients are found in fast-foods (not just Chinese food) and also foods in the grocery store. You should stay away from these, because they help slow down American metabolisms. You should shop in the organic/natural foods section of the grocery store or go to Whole Foods/Farmers Market....

Make sure you drink plenty of water....The amount of ounces you should be drinking is: divide your weight by 2 and that's the amount in ounces you should be drinking...The 8 glasses a day doesn't account for everyone!!

Also, as far as exercise...You don't have to kill yourself with starting off with the high speed" fitness....start off small and work your way up!!

Also, green fruits and veggies are good at burning fat....i.e. green tea is a great detox drink!!

      Hope this helps!

  10. QUESTION:

I am on the new lemon detox diet, i am at the end of my second day, an so far i have not had any problems... I just want to here some other ppls stories on how they went on it, an how were your results?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,
I'm on day 2 as well (Wednesday), and finding it suspiciously easy. Except when I see people eating! The smell of good food is proving a big temptation. Have you been using the laxative tea too? I'm taking a detox tea instead and it breaks up the taste of the lemon drink, which lets face it is pretty disgusting (although no worse that chinese remedies I've tried).

  11. QUESTION:
How to get rid of bad Acne, Painful lumps, boils and blackheads.?
I am an 18 year old male. I have had quite bad acne for about 4 or 5 years now. I have tried almsot every medicine and cream there is except accutane and I dont want to take it. I get painful boils on my neck and sometimes on my face. They can get quite big (up to an inch long) and I can feel either liquid inside them or a hard lump. Chinese herbal tea helped to reduce the swelling but did not cure them. Sometimes they flare up really badly and it hurts to turn my head, whereas sometimes they die down a bit but they never dissappear completely and when some of them heal up new ones grow somewhere else eventaully. I do get normal white head spots on my face, and my shoulders and chest are also a bit red and lumpy but my neck is the most annoying part. I dont know whether my diet affects them but I have tried a detox drink every morning for 2 weeks and that did help to reduce the swelling.
Does anybody have the same problem or know how to help cure them?
I also get blackheads and loads of these tiny little thick black hairs on my nose. What are they??? And please dont suggest things like clearasil or antibiotics I clearly need something much more stronger and that works from the inside also

      Micro Retin for example.

  12. QUESTION:
How should I clean my face?
If i have combonation skin, only getting pimples on my nose and forehead. Because right now i use neutrogena face wash, then a burts bees garden tomato soap, then a toner. is that good enough?

    • ANSWER:
Here is what you have to do to get rid of acne and how to avoid acne.

1.Remove dead skin cells regularly by exfoliating. Use an abrasive cloth or scrub, or use an over-the-counter chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Remember that over-exfoliating can actually increase the likelihood of red, dry skin by irritating the skin. REMEMBER:Before you wash your face, wash your hands first so then if your washing your face, your not putting more bacteria on your face!

2.Remove bacteria from your pores. Your skin can become "allergic" to this bacteria. Use anti-bacterial products containing benzoyl peroxide by rubbing, twice daily, into the pores over the affected region or washing with a medicated bar soap or wash. Keep in mind that this may cause dryness, local irritation and redness.

3.Avoid exposing your skin to other sources of oil and irritants.

*Break the habit of touching your face (Even if you know that your hands is clean, there will be some left bacterias on your hands!).

*Keep bangs off of your forehead. The oil in hair as well as hair products in general may clog pores.

*If you use a phone a lot, don't let it touch your face.

*Change your pillowcases and sheets once a week to prevent the build-up of oils and bacteria that can re-occupy your pores.

*Use non-comedogenic moisturizers and makeup. Choose cosmetics that are water-based and hypoallergenic. Avoid oil-based products, coal tar derivatives, and heavy creams. Make sure you wash your skin thoroughly every night to remove makeup residue.

4.Review your diet and the research surrounding the links between diet and acne. The relationship between food and acne is a debatable topic. Your diet may or may not have an effect on acne.

*Studies have shown a correlation between milk and acne. Try substituting with soy milk and other calcium-rich foods.

*Excessive consumption of foods high in iodine, such as seafood, may worsen acne, but probably won't trigger it.

*Research suggests--but does not prove--that a diet with a low glycemic index may reduce the likelihood of acne. High glycemic foods to replace with healthier alternatives include:

      A)drinks (drink water instead)
      B)sweets (substitute with fruit)
C)white bread (replace with whole wheat bread)

5.Consult a dermatologist regarding your acne. Minimize use of medication containing halogens (iodides, chlorides, bromides), lithium, barbiturates, or androgens.

6.Keep your bedsheets clean. Wash your pillow case on a regular schedule to reduce the transfer of natural body oils.

7.Wash your face at least two times a day. Use face washes specifically designed to remove oils and bacteria that contribute to acne.

      TIPS

*Watch your diet and observe the effects it has on your skin. Whatever science has to say, every body is different and how yours responds to certain conditions can best be determined by you alone. As with any common condition, keeping your body hydrated is sound advice.

*Avoid drinking too much alcohol (especially beer) and eating spicy food. These increase the level of heat within, believed by the Chinese to be linked to acne. Salads, avocado etc will cool.

*Drink herbal or green tea at least once a day to help detox your system.

*Try Dan's regimen of gently washing your face twice a day, then applying generous amounts of benzoyl peroxide and finally putting on a good non-comodogenic moisturizer.
Cleanse the colon by taking psyllium husks with water once or twice per day. This is another excellent way of detoxing the body. Psyllium can be found at most chemists, pharmacies, and drugstores.

*Sometimes the best way of taking care of this condition is by doing it naturally, as in using natural products. Witch Hazel can help when applied with a cotton swab after washing your face.

*It may not seem like it, but green apples are extremely good for preventing and fighting existing acne both on your face and around the body. To avoid acne, eat one green apple a day (cut it into slices if need be and eat it throughout the day). And to reduce existing acne, cut a green apple into quarters and rub two of those quarters over the acne areas. If needed, use the rest, or just eat them. Combine this with drinking plenty of water to achieve clear skin.

*If all else fails and you have severe problems: Accutane (also referred to as Roaccutane) removes the underlying root of Acne and will in many cases rid you of the problem forever. It does however has several side effects and potential severe ones.

*If you have glasses wash them so that all the oil is off your face.

*There are no perfect creams or medicines that make your face smooth, soft and acne-free.

      Good luck!!!
      XXXXXXXX

  13. QUESTION:
what is the best detox drink/tea/program?
i want to detox my body. i tried this chinese tea, but it tasted very bad. any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Most detox teas are herbal based teas. And to be quite frank... no herb actually tastes good. Over time you might get used to the taste and learn to enjoy, but it does take some getting used to.

Detox teas are a very safe way to detoxify the body. With all the toxins and free radicals going into our body, it could use a little help in eliminating some of the junk.

I personally use a variety of detox teas. The herbs/ingrediants you want to look for in the teas are dandelion root, burdock root, licorice root, juniper berries, ginger, red clover....etc. A favorite detox tea of mines even contains echinacea root which is excellent in building the immune system.

Loose teas are a little more inconvenient when it comes to brewing... but if that's what you're interested in try checking out SBSteas.com. They have a great selection of teas... both gourmet and herbal. Yogitea.com carries an even wider variety of teas in bagged form. Both brands are good quality... I think you will find something that can suit both your taste and body.

  14. QUESTION:
I'm taking a personal day from work what should I do to pamper myself (spa enthusiasts please advise)?
Got a unexpected bonus at work (~150 bucks) and I decided I needed to take a personal day and spend it on myself. I wanted to go to a day spa but I've never been to one before and am not sure if it is my speed.

So if I do decide to spa it what should I expect? and if I avoid the whole spa-arena what should I do to relax and detox from my co-workers.

    • ANSWER:
hi....i'm currently in school to be a holistic health practitioner, and i know many spas have package deals :) check them out...they can include a mini facial and massage, sometimes even a mani-pedi. if you just want to go for a massage sweedish is a basic relaxing massage, or you might want to try a hot rock massage, or something with aromatherapy. or you could try a body sugar scrub or salt glow treatment! you might want to check out a massage/spa school in your area they are often much cheaper :) and i'm sure you won't be disappointed. if you just want to do something to relax and detox at home take a sea salt bath and drink some detox tea, light some candles, and play a relaxing cd (Steve Halpern is my favorite) and maybe order a healthy chinese delivery and finish it off w/ a great movie :) what ever you decide i'm sure it'll be great...enjoy your day of peace.

Green tea. Don't get into that junk loaded with all kinds of herbs and spices.
Or magic ancient chinese magic blend that cures everything from cancer to cold sores.
      Teas do not "detox".
Green tea is high in antioxidants.
A diet high in antioxidants can boost metabolism.
A boost in metabolism can burn more calories.
Burning more calories can reduce excess body fat.
We "cleanse and detox" 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body.
I like my hot tea with a spot of coffee in it.
I drink at least 2 1/2 cups a day cold with a splash of orange juice over lots of ice as my cold beverage of choice these days.

  21. QUESTION:
How do i get rid of my ance?!?!?!?
omg im started to have really bad acne on my face and i want it to go away. im kind of stressing out a lot and i drink a lot of sodas and i eat junk food.. i know i have to stop. Sometime i burst bumps, is that good? how do i get rid of my acne..Thanks

    • ANSWER:
When your body is stressed, it makes you increase in stress hormones can and you can experience all sorts of changes, such as weight gain, increased blood pressure, and worsened acne.it increases the amount of oil your skin, which can clog pores and cause breakouts.Wash your face regularly.
      Change Your Diet
Specific foods don’t cause acne. So, you can eat pizza and chocolate without guilt (at least, without guilt of worsening breakouts.)

But some doctors are rethinking the way diet affects our skin. There have been a few studies that seem to show a correlation between eating a high-carb diet and acne severity.

You may want to reduce your intake of high
glycemic index foods (like white bread, white sugars, SODA etc.) and replace these foods with whole grain alternatives, fruits and veggies. It’s a healthy diet even if it doesn’t help your skin to clear, and it can be easily and safely used along with other acne medications.

Some researchers also think eating a lot of dairy products, like milk, cheese and butter, can make acne breakouts worse. You could try reducing your intake, especially if you consume a lot of dairy, and see if it has a positive effect on your skin.

These acne remedies may be worth a try, especially if they just inspire you to eat a healthier diet.
      Detoxing
Detoxing has become very popular. There are many different “detox plans” from supplements and teas, to fasting, drinking lemon water or eating only raw foods.

Detox proponents say toxic buildup within the body can cause a host of different health problems, including acne. The idea behind detoxing is to help the body rid itself of toxins that have accumulated from processed foods, caffeine, and the like. Believers say the skin will clear as the body is brought into a healthier state.

There are plenty of doctors who believe detoxing is pure hogwash. And while it’s true that the skin is an organ of elimination, there isn’t yet proof that any sort of detox diet, tea or supplement can improve the look of your skin.

Detoxing does have its believers, though. If you’d like to give detoxing a try, you should consult your primary care doctor first.

      Green Tea
Green tea is a healthy drink loaded with antioxidants. But could green tea hold the key to clearing acne?

studies that have shown topical application of a green tea lotion to be an effective treatment for mild to moderate acne.

Green tea has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries as a remedy for many ailments, including acne. Traditionally in the culture, several cups of green tea were drunk per day. Today, some herbalists go one step further and suggest making a toner from strong-brewed green tea. There isn’t proof beyond anecdotal evidence that this is helpful for acne, though.

Green tea extract is a common ingredient in many skin care products, but many don’t contain enough to really benefit your skin. Read the ingredients and shop around.

      Tea Tree Oil
Here’s one alternative acne remedy that has some science behind it. Tea tree oil is probably the most well-studied of all natural acne remedies.

Some studies have shown it to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide, although it does take longer to see results. Tea tree is a strong antiseptic and is believed to kill acne, the bacterium responsible for acne breakouts.

Tea tree oil can be found at most natural food stores or health food stores. It is also incorporated into cleansers, soaps, toners, and lotions.

      Zinc
Ensuring that you are getting enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals is important for your health. If you have acne, it may be doubly important to get enough zinc.

Used both orally and topically, zinc may help reduce inflammatory acne. Some topical acne medications, like Theramycin Z, contain zinc.

You can also get zinc tablets over the counter. Zinc can cause upset stomach and reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics. Don’t take super-doses of this mineral, because it can cause other health problems.

      Herbal Detoxification
Generic diets for detoxification are good, but may not stimulate the liver, lungs or the kidneys as much as one would like. Therefore, herbal cleanses are indicated when we want to hone our cleanse to a "sharp edge" and be organ specific. Of course, herbs are foods too and provide one with vitamins, minerals and enzymes for excellent nutrition. Herbs are powerful, because they may be combined together to fortify those herbs that aid specific organs. For example, herbal combinations that aid the liver may be found in many organic food stores. The list below shows how herbal combinations help the various organs.

      Herbal Combinations

      Liver
LIV-A Dandelion, red beet, liverwort, parsley, horsetail, birch leaves, chamomile, blessed thistle, black cohosh, angelica, gentian, goldenrod

      Kidneys
Uva ursi, parsley, dandelion, juniper berries JP-X Parsley, uva ursi, marshmallow, ginger, goldenseal, dong quai, cedar berries

      Lungs
LH Comfrey, marshmallow, mullein, slippery elm, senega, Chinese ephedra

While herbs may be taken at any time, they are best for detoxification purposes when they are used with a good diet also. It does not make any sense to take herbs to cleanse the liver if the bowels are clogged with junk or refined foods, since the liver dumps its toxins into the bowels. And while detoxification diets are effective by themselves, they may be reinforced and speeded up with herbs, which stimulate the eliminative organs.

Herbs may be used as teas, powders or extracts. Powders are usually encapsulated for easier swallowing, but are best when taken with meals and digestive enzymes. Extracts may be used when specific herbs are needed, but may be extracted with alcohol, which we need to avoid. Herbal teas are easily made and easily taken all throughout the day. They are mild and gentle and sometimes refreshing and sometimes bitter. Experimentation may be in order until one develops the right tea to drink. Herbal teas is a topic in itself, since there are so many and different ways to make them.

      Example Herbal Cleanse

      Rising
Drink a glass of lemon water or drink a glass of water with added: one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses

      Morning
Drink a glass of water with psyllium husk powder (follow with another glass of water).

      Meals
      Take 2-3 multi-digestive enzymes
      Take liver herbs

      In Between Meals
Drink herbals teas which support the liver, including Dandelion/licorice/ginger/fennel

Note: Following a good diet is mandatory for herbs to work optimally. See section on diets for detox.

      Skin Cleansing
Detoxification should include some type of skin cleansing, because our skin it one of our best eliminative organs. Heavy metals are actually released through the skin's pores when we sweat. Sauna baths and steam rooms are great for removing toxins from the skin and regenerating one's health and energy. It has been documented that our skin's sweat glands when combined can perform as much detoxification as one (or both) kidneys. Therefore, it is very important to support our skin for detoxification to be maximal. If our kidneys are damaged, then helping the skin will help the kidneys ... indirectly, but effectively.

Good skin care is in order, if one's health is to benefit, also. Using chemicalized skin care products is not wise, even though they are cheaper. These chemicals may be absorbed into our circulation and provide more "toxins" for our liver to deal with. We are not made out of cast iron, and even the chemicals in our soaps and shampoos will make a difference with our health. Most people do not "see" the ill effects of these subtle chemicals, because their liver is able to metabolize them. But, individuals who are environmentally toxic will see a great change in their health when using natural soaps and shampoos. We should take their advice and use only natural skin care products also.

Cleansing our skin is rather simple. First, we need to bathe daily using natural soaps. Then we need to care for the skin by using only natural oils and products of natural origin. Even the clothes we wear can make a big difference in our health. Synthetic fibers do not absorb sweat (toxins), while natural fibers, like cotton, will absorb toxins. Dry skin brushing helps in removing the outer dead skin layers and keeps the pores open. Another good method of skin brushing is with vigorous toweling off after bathing. Towel roughly until the skin is slightly red. Change towels often because they will contain toxins.

Good skin care also requires good nutrition.[ii] Since our skin is mainly fat, we need high quality fats and oil from natural sources to give our skin health. Butter and olive oil are two excellent natural oils, which keep the skin in good condition. As always, the fats/oils should be natural ... only.

      Detoxification Baths
Use 1/2 cup of baking soda or use 1/2 cup of Epsom salt or use 1/2 cup of sea salt. Soak for 15-20 minutes and then scrub the skin gently with soap on a natural fiber. Within a few minutes the water will turn murky and "dirty." The darkness to the water is heavy metals coming out of the skin (aluminum and mercury). Do this once a week during detox and once a month for maintenance.

      Juice Fasting
Fasting with vegetable juices can be another excellent way to develop good health and cleanse the body of toxins. Juices, minus their pulp (fiber), contain an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. When the pulp is not added, one is able to drink more juice than they are able to eat. For example, one can easily consume the juice of several heads of lettuce in one sitting, but may not be able to eat the lettuce whole. This allows the body to get an abundance of nutrients with minimal processing (digestion). Fasting on mono-juices also allows the body proper time to process these juices and helps to preserve our valuable digestive enzymes.

Juice fasting has helped many people over come serious diseases like cancer, because it gave them optimal nutrition and allowed the body to cleanse itself of toxins. [According to many nutritionists, cancer is merely a toxic condition.] With some juicers, the pulp is discarded, but it may be saved and added back for fiber (not too much). Juices contain good sources of antioxidants and enzymes, both of which are needed for cleansing and eliminating toxins. Juices are also easy to digest and help those with digestive problems.

      3. Do the same the next day but no salad.

      Hi,

one way to figure out what all these are, what they are good for and probably how to use them too is if you go to a library and search for natural herbs or something along those lines you should be able to find lots of books that would contain information about different kinds of roots, and plants used for things like cleansing, or even if you search on the internet you would be able to find somehting. Good luck with the cleansing, it's a good and natural way to keep yourself healthy, with avoiding drugs.

  29. QUESTION:
How long does it take for THC to clear out of your system by taking the proper detox procedures?
I'm a college student who used to smoke a lot of weed dialy for about 1 & 1/2 years. I have a job offer coming up and most likely a drug screen that will come with it. I've stopped smoking weed and intaking all other toxins (alcohol, tobacco, etc.) for about 2 weeks now. I wont be tested for another 2 weeks, so in total i have about a 4 week detox period. I'm a male, 6' 1", and weigh about 190 lbs. Im athletic with less than 10% body fat. Lately Ive been drinking a ton of water and chinese herbal detox teas and flushing my system with niacin (500mg 1-2 times a day). In addition, ive been sweating perfusly by taking long runs or working out with Insanity...those whove done insanity know how much you sweat.

I feel that i have taken the appropiate measures to detox my system on time, however i just wanted to get some insight on what the general public has to say about my detox and detoxing thc from your body in general. If you have any other great techniques please let me know.

    • ANSWER:
You are in pretty good shape.
Eat nothing but fresh whole foods and stay well hydrated.
Eat and drink everything in its' simplest form.
Eat an orange, don't drink the juice.
By avoiding as much processed and refined foods as possible and increasing your fiber intake you will lower total toxicity.
Search high fiber foods and focus on those. Oatmeal, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, lots of beans. High fiber reduces transit time and lowers toxicity. Lean meats for protein.
Taking extreme amounts of vitamins or other supplements retard liver and kidney function and increase toxicity.
DO NOT drink large amounts of water before testing.
The test also measures proteins, hormones, urea, and other compounds in urine. A diluted sample automatically is flagged for a retest.

  30. QUESTION:
Is it healthy to 'detox' your body?
By just drinking things such as water and lemon tea.

    • ANSWER:
Just listen to the medical people rant here about how detoxing does not work. Doctors are killing more people in America than any one major disease including Cancer, Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, etc. Cancer is on the rise and is approaching heart disease as the number one disease killer today. What do doctors do about this? Drugs. No wonder they don't think people need to detox, just give them a drug. lol.

Do doctors actually believe that because the body has the ability to detox that everyone is going to have perfectly working organs that will "Just take care of the toxins?" Eat a balanced diet; that is their answer to nutrition. "Eat more fruits and vegetables" and that will detox you just fine. Really?

In July 2004, Gary Null Ph.D, Carolyn Dean M.D., N.D, Martin Feldman M.D., Debora Rasio M.D., Dorothy Smith Ph.D. wrote a paper that revealed very disturbing facts regarding an annual iatrogenic (induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures) death rate of 783,936 in one year. It is further disturbing to realize that as few as 5 percent and only up to 20 percent of iatrogenic acts are ever reported. This means that that iatrogenic death rate of 783,936 is most likely much higher.

As we look at the causes of death from degenerative diseases and other causes in America in 2004, it is obvious we are not good at solving this problem on any level.

      Heart Disease: 652,000;
      Cancer: 553,000;
      Stroke: 150,000;
      Diabetes: 73,000.

When comparing the iatrogenic acts of modern medicine in America with the statistical numbers of people dying of any particular disease, it is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. And when we look at the cost of these iatrogenic deaths, the cost is in the billions.

And these are the people telling us detoxing is a scam? Doctors "Manage disease and relieve symptoms" with drugs, but do not know how to find root causes of diseases or even want to take the time to do so. No wonder they say detoxing is a scam. These guys listen to drug companies and the drug company group, Quackwatch.com. Look at this: http://www.quackpotwatch.org/default.htm

  31. QUESTION:
    chinese tea--weight loss??
Hi! i have heard that chinese tea helps you lose weight....is that the one that causes you to go to the restroom?? does it actually help you lose weight? i dont want to drink it and be miserable in the restroom all day if it isnt going to help...if anybody knows about it or has tried it please let me know what it does & if it does really work.
    thanks!! :)

    • ANSWER:
Not the normal tea-bag ones. Here, it actually refers to those traditionally brewed tea (from real dried tea leaves). Chinese tea works for your health if only you consume it on a daily basis for long-tem. Same here for Japanese tea. Results won't show up overnight, so don't expect miracle.

For myself, I am drinking this brand of Chinese tea from HongKong - Zhu Zhu Shen Cha (Oolong Tea Flavour), which will helps to increase your body's metabolism and hence, burns up fat faster. Another function is: Detoxification of the body's toxics, which is the one that will make you go to the restroom more often in a day. One bonus is that it will energize your body, makes you feel more awake and can have concentrate better.

Health benefits of drinking tea: Improves and nourishes one's looks, reduce cholesterol, burns up/clears away fat and slims the body, detox the body's toxics, cleans the blood cells, anti-aging, etc. These health benefits are based on tradition or medical research, including preventiion of cancer, promoting a healthy heart, preventing arthritis, and aiding weight loss.

Other types of chinese tea: Oolong tea, Green tea, Jasmine tea, Flower tea, Ti Kuan Yin, Black tea, White tea, Yellow tea, etc.

So, basically, you got to be sure what are the benefits of the brand of tea. Eg. If it is good for detoxing, chances are you'll feel like going to the restroom every few hours. Otherwise, there isn't much serious side effects for drink tea daily.

  32. QUESTION:
Nutrition help....DO you think i should drink weight loss tea again or any other suggestions!!!?
ok i took weight loss drinking chinese tea for two days and i think it works but the problem is that it gave me diarreha and it tastes like sh.it literally it makes me puke but now it has been 2 weeks and m gaining weight again what should i do????
do u think i shd take it again or what
u can link me to a good website if u want any help and suggestions would be awesome, thx

    • ANSWER:
Well the chinese green tea is good if you need to do a detox, but to lose weight is plain simple you need to give your body time to digest the food.

In other words don't eat between meals, eat to stay healthy, not to lose weight, don't diet, just change your eating habits, better choices.

Making changes is what will help you lose weight, not a diet. Try eating vegetables once a week, instead of chocolate eat fruits.

Just make baby steps and believe me you will lose weight.

  34. QUESTION:
Is any kind of tea good for a diet?

    • ANSWER:
Green Tea is an excellent aid for weight loss. It is only effective if made correctly though.

Steep tea bag or tea leaves for 3-5 minutes, MAX. Otherwise it changes it's medicinal properties. Green tea is a delicate tea & oversteeping destroys the antioxidants & internal cooling action of it.

There is a wonderful Chinese tea that is a bit more difficult to find called Pu'er. This is most commonly used to detox & lose weight.

Be aware that commercial green tea drinks are empty calories & usually have sugar. Stay away from those - the tea must be freshly steeply to use it medicinally.

  35. QUESTION:
What kind of Astragalus is in TA-65?
Are there any other supplements that can increase the length of your telomeres?

    • ANSWER:
All I could find is "TA-65 is made from the chinese herb Astragalus". You have to be careful with Chinese herbs as most are cultured using sewage factory water that is high in toxic heavy metals. Here in California websites that sell Chinese herbs disclaim that they contain cancer causing heavy metals per Proposition 65. It would be best to go with Russian astragalus or at the very least, organic. If it contains contaminants, it defeats the purpose and ages you much faster. If you consume chemicals in your food and body care products (phthalates in perfumes/fragrances, air fresheners, BPA in plastics, heavy metals and other tox chems) you defeat the purpose.
Also you should include a daily organic green tea in your diet for detox and youthful properties, as well as goji berries, the eternal youth berry. Will fwd you more info on that.

  36. QUESTION:
Is this tea safe to drink while breastfeeding?
I've always been an avid fan of teas. However, I almost always drank the cheaper generic green teas. I recently discovered the vast array of teas at 'DAVIDStea' and purchased quite a bit of the detox tea as well as the 'SKINNY' tea.

I have been drinking a few cups of the skinny and the detox I drink twice a week. However, I do breastfeed. I breastfeed a lot less now because I have gone back to school full time and it is hard to find the time to pump but I do want to be able to give him a bottle of breast milk as often as I can.

Can drinking these teas harm my milk and in turn harm my baby? Are these okay to drink?

Here are the list of ingreidents in each tea

  38. QUESTION:
Chinese Oolong tea works for this or what . . . .?
Alright I posted my concerns at another forum asking for a quick solution to a quick weight loss. But I will recap so if you have anything else that might work.

My situation is I realize this is not going to be a permenant fix, I am just looking for something that can make me look and feel better for this weekend event that I am going to. I have started to cut back on my eating "bad food" and working out. I just need that extra boost, for this weekend. I sound like a teenager but I wanna impress this guy! :-)

Well a poster said something about chinese oolong tea, that she lost 6 pounds in 5 days, so I am wondering does this work? Is that all that I need to take for the 5 days or what?

Also I am also wanting other thoughts to other methods that could possibly work.

Please nothing rude, because like I said I realize this is not a permenant fix just something to help me feel and look better for the weekend.

Thanx in advance for the help...

    • ANSWER:
Oolong tea is good for you but no...I don't think it will make you loose that much wt so quickly unless that is the only thing you are drinking. But if you do want to do a drastic diet like that...for just a few days...you might want to try the lemonade detox diet. Here is a website that describes it well and what you need to do. I have tried this...although I lasted only abt 5 days...but it did make me feel better and like I had cleansed my body...and of course lost quite a bit of water weight.

  39. QUESTION:
I just thought I would help those out that were on the Depo-provera and are now ttc. This article explains how?
Depo can stay in your system up to 18mos to help get it out this website suggested these steps

1 Drink LOTS of water: We all know there many health benefits of drinking water. Besides clear skin and weight loss, drinking at least 64 ounces per day can help rid the body of toxins and expel waste stored in the bodies tissue and prevent disease. Adding fresh squeezed lemon to water can help flush toxins out of the body because lemons are a natural diuretic.

Step 2Exercise: At least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity a day helps increase the blood flow to the organs, muscles and tissues. Exercise helps endorphin levels rise and remove toxins from the body. Sweating also helps remove waste and toxins. Daily walks outside in the fresh air also help the detoxification process.

Step 3 Eat 6-11 (or more!) servings of fruit and vegetables a day: High in fiber to help move your bowels and loaded with anti-oxidants to help your body defend itself from any damaging toxins that enter it. Make sure you wash your produce well or chose organic if possible.

Step 4 Try Acupuncture: A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that helps rid the body of drug toxins by balancing the body and the mind.

Step 5 Try a colon cleanse: A form of alternative medicine that removes feces and toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. Colon cleansers are composed of a combination of fiber, herbs, supplements and laxatives and can be purchased at your local health food store. Use as directed.

Step 6 Drink detox tea: A combination of herbs used to rid the body of toxins by supporting liver and kidney function. Detox teas are organic and caffeine free and can be found in your local supermarket or health food store.

Step 7Take a detox bath: Soak in a warm bath for 30 minutes with 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of Epsom salt. This helps the body eliminate toxins through the skin. After the bath you will feel refreshed and your skin will be soft and smooth. Rinse off with a cool shower.

Step8Relax in a sauna: Heavy metals and toxins are expelled through the the skin as we sweat. Sitting in a sauna for 10 minutes helps open the pours and detoxifies the body. Consult your health care professional before trying a sauna detox.

Step 9Take Probiotics: Also known as "good bacteria" that are necessary for digestive system health. Probiotics have been said to strengthen the immune system, allowing the body to fight off allergies, exposure to toxins and other diseases. Probiotics can be taken in supplement form, yogurt or shakes.

  41. QUESTION:
    Question about detox...?
Is it really good for your body to detox by drinking chinese herbal tea and pooing ( 2 put it nicely!) it out. Is this process good for the body.

    • ANSWER:
It's unlikely. Your body has its own methods for removing toxins; that's what your liver and kidneys are for.
I've never seen any reliable evidence that detoxes work. It's much better to eat a healthy diet rich in fruit and veg, and drink plenty of water, than to splash out on expensive herbal teas or detox juices.

  42. QUESTION:
Green Tea, Water, Fruit and Veggie Detox?
Can I Detox By Only Eating And Drinking Green Tea, Water, Fruits and Vegetables? If not could you name something else that I would work that is at home. I want to for the health reasons and also weight loss. How Long should I do this detox for? Will there be any sort of symptoms during the detox?

    • ANSWER:
I exercise 2 hours a day at least. I was more interested in muscle building than weight loss. I decided to start drinking green tea to help boost immunity (because it was found green tea drastically reduces sepsis and I have an upcoming surgery and prone to infection). After two weeks of drinking a quart of green tea (no sugar added) throughout the day, I dropped 5 pounds. I don't know that if you had poor habits that it'd be realistic to expect miracles in weight loss, but I do think the green tea may have given me a push.

I drink cold green tea that brew I myself. Also, I put the teabag in the hot water for a minute to reduce the oxalates, caffeine, etc and throw out that first batch because tea bothers my stomach. Then I use the pre-steeped bags to steep again in the next batch of water which I actually end up drinking. I never drink the first brew tea. I also believe Japanese and Chinese tea rituals involve the same process, they throw out the first brew.

The amount I drink is 2 green tea bags for quart of water. Drink this quart throughout the period of the day if you can. What you will first notice is that you have to urinate what seems a lot extra for the amount of green tea you're taking in. What green tea does is help push out retained water. You won't start losing weight right away. After a couple of weeks of this process and having to go to the bathroom a lot, you'll begin to see the weight loss. Also, the need to urinate so frequently tapers off and goes back to normal. Like I said after a couple of weeks, I dropped 5 pounds and hadn't changed anything.

What happens is that water retention interferes with weight loss. Meaning, it seems that people who have an extra hard time losing weight (I never had a hard time with weight) also seem likely to retain water. If the body has a hard time releasing water, it also has a hard time pushing fat metabolism. And so green tea pushes the process with the water first.

  43. QUESTION:
    how can i prevent acne?
how can i prevent acne, pimples etc...? everytime i use my pimple medicine, it goes away and sometimes it leaves black marks or spots on my face that will go off sooner or later.i have sensitive skin, its oily.somebody please help me!!

    Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acne?
I went into see chinese herbal doctor because of my right cheek having bumps, redness, and occasional itchiness. I went to see my doctor and she called it a form of dermatitis. When I went to the herbal doctor, he said that I have a bad case of dampness in my body and prescribed me one week worth of medicine to make and drink.

I drank them for a week already, the bumps that I have are gone but it is causing me to break out badly, some of them are now fading but are still present. Some of them are small blemishes around the mouth and are painful. When will they be gone? I am less red but still feels the itchiness possibly to scar trying to heal themselves. I just finished my medicine two days ago so I duno if I have to wait for another week to see more results?

    • ANSWER:
The Herxhiemers Reaction or healing crisis is when the body detoxes of dirt, and can worsen symptoms, like acne, before the skin clears up. Personally I had bad acne all through my teens, and even after, I didn't like the bitter taste of Herbal tea, so I tried other things. As I will now detail, but it depends on the cause:

      ===============================================
Acne or pimples have two causes:

      1) Hormone imbalance, causing the sebaceous glands in your skin to produce more oil, which feeds Acne bacteria, which causes the sebaceous glands to become inflammed, red, hot, and swollen, this happens so white blood cells can fight the acne bacteria. Thi occurs at pubery {usually}, or during pregnancy. This theory is accepted by conventional medicine/dermatologists.

      2) Candida overgrowth in the gut, produces many toxins, which leach into the bloodstream, and can result in acne, as this is one of the ways the body rids itself of toxins, if you do not drink enough water, {1/2 your body weight in ounces per day}, however, if the toxic load is high, as it is with candida, water alone will not cure acne.
This is rejected by conventional medicine {due to various reasons, although I can vouch that this is a genuine medical condition, read 'The Yeast Connection' by Dr. Cook MD}, and is accepted by alternative medicine practionioners, Herbalists, and some Medical Doctors.

Do the candida spit test, or find a local nutrition-based lab to test you for candida overgrowth, e.g Blood test {antibodies against Candida, not very accurate}, or Urine {to test for a metabolite of candida, 'D-mannitol Urine Test', most accurate, yet hard to find a lab that performs this test, pioneered by Japanese Researchers}, or a Comprehensive Stool Test {Good, 2nd best, yet can be too expensive}.

Candida Spit Test Instructions, you can do this at home, immediately after waking up:
      http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/pdf/Spit_Test.pdf
      ======================================...
      The Good News Is

In either case, there are things you can do to reduce/cure your acne.
      ======================================...
      1) If your acne is caused by a hormone-imbalance.

      Vitamin A - 10,000 IU per day, {no more than 5,000IU if pregnant, as this can cause birth defects similar to the drug Roaccutane}

      Vitamin B Complex

      Vitamin C - 1000 - 2000mg per day, as Low-acidity Magnesium Ascorbate Powder.

Zinc - 20mg per day, in chelated amino acid/ bio-available form. 'Mineral' is a good brand, as is 'Higher Nature'

      DIM - Di-Indole-Methane, shown to regulate bad hormones that cause acne, andhas immune modulating effects on the skin, 100mg - 400mg per day. {DIM - Highly Reccommended supplement!, if you decide to take nothing else on this list, take this}

      Chromium - 400mcg - 600mcg per day
      ======================================...
      2) If Candida-overgrowth is causing your acne

Severe Acne is often associated with Candida Overgrowth, please see the following website.

      http://www.significanthealing.com/Symptoms.htm

I suffered from acne for years, I managed to cure my acne by following a nutritional approach/ a special 3 day Apple Fast, this was my supplement regime:
      ======================================...
      Fasting

      Day 1

      - 10-15 Red/Golden Delicious {most high in pectin, do not substitute for Green apples} Apples. {You can eat as many Apples as you like, on average I ate 10-15, just tot give you a figure for how many apples to buy. The best place to buy these apples in a Local Farmer's Market, in bulk, and its organic/cheap; Although even apples from the superstore will work as well}

      - 3 litres of Alkali Water, {to make alkali add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to every litre of filtered/spring water}

      - Coffee Enema, scientifically proven to detox the liver and kidneys. You will urinate alot after, so drink lots of water before/after.

      - 2x S. Boulardii Probiotic Supplement {this flushes out Candida Albicans, and lodged fecal matter, use this instead of imodium/laxatives}

      - Oil of Oregano Capsules x 4

      - Oxygen Elements Plus/Max by GHT, 21 drops, trice daily as 7 drops in a glass of filtered water

      - {Optional Step} 3 tablespoons of Colloidal Silver, in between meals, alternatively use diltued Iodine BP oral suspension {available at chemists}.
      ======================================...
      Day 2

      Same as Day 1, although substitute the 'Oil of Oregano Capsules x 4' for 4x Olive Leaf Extract {Optional, you can stick to taking Oil of Oregano for all 3 days, I just happened to have these other anti-fungals at home. I thought to cycle the anti-fungals, like Doctors do with antibiotics for Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth}
      ======================================...
      Day 3

      - Same as Day 2, although substitute '4 x Olive Leaf Extract' for 4 x High potency Ginger/Allicin Extract

      - Drink 1 glass of grape juice before bed

      - And 1-2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, to restart digestion.

      - A Word of Caution - You will feel very down, and have a headache through this 3 day fast, if you have candida, this is known as the Healing crisis or Herxheimer's Reaction, tis is good as it means candida is dying, I reccommend if you decide to do the fast, do it in the holidays, or on a friday, then over the weekend so it does not interfere with work/university/whatever. The second day is the hardest.
      ======================================...
      After Care Day 4 - 60

      - 4.5g of Glutamine powder, before bed, to heal the gut/leaky Gut Syndrome, damage caused by Candida Albicans

      - Extra Virgin Cocconut Oil 4 tablespoons per day, after meals, this heals the gut also, and kills any remaining Candida Albicans/other pathogenic fungi, bacteria, viruses.

      - Oxygen Elements Max/Plus 21 drops, 7 drops thrice daily, or a cheaper alternative would be Hydrogen Peroxide 35% Food Grade, 1 drop to a pint of water, build up slowly, do not exceed 25 drops.

      - {Optional} Ginkgo Biloba 60mg per day - Increase blood circulation, , scientifically proven to improve memory and concentration

      - Vitamin/Mineral complex by Higher Nature 'Advanced Nutrition Complex', to eliminate dificiencies from the fast, and give the body what it needs to heals itself. 3 capsules daily. 1x Omega 3 by 'Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega'

      - Kefir - made at home {join Yahoo Kefir Making Group, to obtain Kefir Grains} drink 1 pint for breakfast, 1 pint prior to bedtime. This is a probiotic drink.

      - {Optional} Fivelac probiotic supplement by GHT, 4 times daily, then twice daily for maintenance.

      - S. Boulardii x1 capsule, prior to bedtime.

      - {Optional} Consider also supplementing with Oxy Powder to oxygenate the gut/blood, and kills any remaining candida. Although this is an expensive supplement, I personally did not use this, as I had no knowledge of it.

      - Anti-Candida Diet, no sugar, yeasts, ect. Also stop cooking with Vegetable oils, and replace with Virgin Olive Oil, or better Virgin Coconut Oil {anti-candida, and anti-bacterial/acne}. Vegetable oils are rancid and causes alo of oxidation in the body, and hus aggrevate and can cause Inflammation, which is not good for your acne, which involves: Inflammation. Make sure it is 'Virgin' or 'Extra Virgin' {in the case of Olive oil}, these oils are more expensive, but worth it.
Continue the anti-candida diet for 6 months, then leave the supplements, continue to eat healthy, eat sugar moderately, continue taking Vitamin/Mineral complex and Omega 3.

      ======================================...
      Alkalising the Body

Candida or Acne bacteria cannot thrive in an alkalised, oxygen rich body, the following will help you alkalise your body to an optimal state:

      - Drink alkali water, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to every litre of filtered water that you drink

      - Eat lots of dark green leafy vegetables with food.

      - Cut down on citrus fruits, soda's, sugar

      - Replace table sugar with Xylitol, this alkalises the body and promote health/ fights candida, and is a prebiotic.

      - {Optional} Consider buying a Bob Beck Ozonator, to oxygenate water before drinking, this also alkalises the body/ kills candida alibicans.

My Experience/ Life Story....Don't fall asleep...

I suffered from severe acne in my teens, which was not long ago, I was on Roaccutane 4 times!, 16months in total {cumulative, 4 month/16wks period per treatment}, it worked great, clear skin, yet the acne returned after 3 months of stopping the treatment, when the drug began to wear off. The side-effects were also nasty, Migraine headaches, chapped lips, ect.
I finally found the cure to acne, not in antibiotics or roaccutane {accutane} but in Herbs, Orthomolecular medicine and Alt. Medicine. My acne was caused both by Candida overgrowth {due to 6months of antibiotic use, tetracycline} and Hormonal imbalance, so I followed both of the above suggestions. The 3-day apple fast reaps brilliant results, I highly reccommend you look into this, do not do it near your period.

      Hope this helps.

      Topical Application to Acne Pimples

      - MSM cream or lotion is said to work well, I did not try this though, I was reccommended this by my Naturopath. Further, DMSO with help reduce inflammation, associated with the acne condition.

      - Apply Virgin Cocconut Oil to skin prior to bed {this will kill the acne bacteria}, in addiiton apply Aloe Vera Gel to the affected areas, Buy an Aloe Vera plant, this is best, cheap and most effective. You can cut a small portion of the leaf of and the Aloe Vera leaf with seal/heal the leak, it is easy to look after, 100ml of water watered weekly!

      - Salt Face Wash - Fill the sink with lupe warm water, add lots of salt, until the water becomes murky/cloudy, splash face with this water several times, covering

  46. QUESTION:
    Detoxing your body?
Has anyone done these detoxing that they keep talking about? I hear the most about the lemonade detox, but heard a little about the others. Do they really work and did you find it worth the time? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
There is a pro-biotic substance known as Kombucha, it is a delicately cultured bacteria that thrives within types of chinese tea. You can get it at your local grocery store; it comes in different flavors and types; you can find this at natural/organic foodstores as well. It sounds gross but isn't at all! It actually tastes pretty good. This substance already exists within your stomach and when you take penicillin it destroys this natural biotic in your body, making you more susceptible to illness.

  47. QUESTION:
    Chinese detox foot patches...?
Has anyone tried them? Are they a scam, or something worthwhile? I bought some, and they never stopped turning brown and gross like in the commercial, BUT when I put them on before bed, my legs get all tingly and sleep like a bump on a log! It also seems to calm my PMS a bit. So the jury's out for me, but they DO seem to be very relaxing. Any opinions?

    • ANSWER:
      Scam.

One of their ingredients is wood vinegar (pyroligneous acid) - it attracts and absorbs water in the same way those little silicon packets that come in electronic equipment do.If there is any moisture around, wood vinegar will absorb it and make a brown mush. The other main ingredient is basically sugar, which obviously gets sticky in sweat.

Ben Goldacre suggests the following experiment - take a patch and squirt some water onto it, then pop a nice hot cup of tea onto it and wait ten minutes. You'll se a brown sludge forming. There are no toxins in porcelain.

Scam. Amy benefits you feel are likely to be a placebo effect or coincidence.

  48. QUESTION:
    Question about fasting/detoxing?
    1) Is it okay to drink packaged tea or add real lemon juice to water during the seven days fast? Is that all I should consume?

    2) After three days of broth, where should I go from there?

    • ANSWER:
Nowadays, there are so many different ways of fasting...It used to be just “not eating” but now, some people do not fast, they detox, hopefully with some natural food and not detox products or doing awful things to themselves (like enemas) and disrupting the normal function of their body.

I believe in the “not eating” simple method as the body really cleans itself, if given a chance. You won’t disrupt a digestive system if it’s dormant as you’re not forcing it to do anything faster.

For some people who eat junk food, detoxing is just eating super healthy and drinking more water for a few days.

For others it is drinking/eating diuretics, so they pee a lot and would dehydrate if they would not drink a lot of water. So they drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration and they pee a lot because of the diuretics...water is in one way, out the other in an accelerated fashion (lots of bathroom trips) so you feel like you’re cleaning the inside of your body. You also need fruit juices and sport drinks to replenish your electrolytes.

Diuretics are drinks like alcohol, tea, cranberry juice, and food like cucumbers, watermelons, fresh tomatoes, asparagus, artichokes, beets, carrots, lettuce, raw onions, oats, melon, celery, parsley and any veggie from the cabbage family...cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, Chinese broccoli (kay-lan), Chinese cabbage (bok choy), cress, cauliflower, turnips, kale, collard greens, mustard , canola (rapeseed), radish, horseradish, rutabaga, and hybrids like broccoflower (broccoli/cauliflower...green cauliflower and also Romanesco broccoli) or broccolini (broccoli/kay-lan) and 15 others...
Usually, diuretic food are eaten with salty food to counteract dehydration with water retention so you don’t have to drink too much water.

      Now, to answer your question...

Why would you want to add tea (or squeeze a lemon)? For flavor?
Once your taste buds are dormant, water will just taste refreshing. You want your WHOLE digestive system to go dormant, once it is empty. Your taste buds are also part of the digestive system.

I would avoid tea during a seven day complete fast. Tea could be good for a short detox as it is a diuretic but for a week long fast, you only want water. The last thing you want is a diuretic as you have to walk a tight rope between dehydration and over-hydration. You need to drink enough water to not be thirsty but just enough so you avoid electrolyte imbalance. When you’re not eating, the water goes through your body pretty fast as you don’t have to wait for your intestines to suck it out of your waste, since you have no waste (yeah, I’m getting gross there). Your pee is colorless...you feel that flushing is a waste of water.

So I would avoid tea as to not dehydrate and not stimulate the dormant taste buds but I would also avoid lemon. That would be even a stronger taste buds stimulant (like a wakeup call) but really lemon is acidic (like vinegar) and would probably has an effect on your stomach, which usually use gastric acids to digest food BUT since you are fasting and your digestive system is dormant...I don’t think it would be advisable to wake up the beast!

Only drink just enough water to not be thirsty.
After the first 3 days of hunger, fasting is a great experience that clears your mind once your body does not have to digest anymore. Stay active, walk, swim, bike, and away from the smell or sight of food that is disgusting when you don’t eat (make sure you start with a few pounds of fat reserves).

The 3 days of broth are really like clear liquids, then pureed soups and fruits/veggies juices, and then soups with soft pieces of food...go at your own speed.
Imagine that you’re a toothless old person who does not like to eat with dentures or that you're a baby.
Mashed potatoes are pretty good and contain electrolytes too. Any purée is good, put your cooked veggies in a blender.
A ripe avocado with vinaigrette (extra virgin olive oil/vinegar/salt) is good to get electrolytes and soft food. Avocado are usually sold unripe (for transport), vibrant green and hard, and need about a week to 10 days to ripen to a dark green that yield under the thumb...so buy them at the beginning of your fast if they’re unripe at the store.
Drink fruit juices. Usually fruits are better than the juices but after a fast, it’s the opposite. Soft fruits like ripe bananas are good (you can mash them with a fork).
So basically, anything you like as long as it’s pureed of soft...and not too much fiber. Again, usually fiber is good but after a fast, do not go look for it, just eat/drink fruits/veggies.
You’ll need about 5 days to resume BM.

  49. QUESTION:
Went to Asian Market in Phoenix and got some Chinese Green Tea. DETOXIFICATION symptoms?
Does this sound right? Been down for 5 days now... dizzy, faint, weak, headache, chills, muscle & joint ache.

Sounds like DETOXIFICATION symptoms, right? I've read that if you experience this, you are actually detoxifying toxins and bad things from your body. My poop, is green! Not like the fiber green you get from eating veggies... Green Tea GREEN. It looks like I've pooped out what's inside the tea bags... Its really weird & starting to freak me out.

Pooped twice since I drank the tea and its like pooping finely ground tea leaves. I'm still really dizzy with aches and symptoms. Anyone else ever experience something like this? When will it go away?

    • ANSWER:
No, it does not sound like detoxification symptoms. Sounds more like dodgy tea, or a virus, or both. Its not uncommon for Chinese herbs to be contaminated.

I don't know if you are actually trying to detox, but - detox in the alt med sense is baloney. ‘Detox’ has no meaning outside of the clinical treatment for drug addiction or poisoning. Your body naturally deals with foreign substances. The liver and kidneys automatically detoxify and excrete "toxic" materials including metabolic wastes. There is nothing you can do enhance this process.

      Furthermore, it can be dangerous.

      From wiki:
"Many alternative medicine practitioners promote various other types of detoxification such as "diet detoxification," but there is no evidence that detox diets have any health benefits."

"These toxins are undefined and have no scientific basis, making the validity of such techniques questionable. There is no evidence for toxic accumulation in these cases, as the liver and kidneys automatically detoxify and excrete many toxic materials including metabolic wastes. Under this theory if toxins are too rapidly released without being safely eliminated (such as burning fat that stores toxins) they can damage the body and cause malaise."

"Certain diets have an underlying assumption that the body accumulates toxins that must be removed, especially after periods of over-eating or the consumption of non-nutritious and processed foods. As with alternative medicine, the 'toxins' removed are undefined and are ascribed to foods, the environment and the body's own wastes, and there is no scientific basis for the hypothesis."

Quit the tea and if you don't improve soon, see a doctor asap.

  50. QUESTION:
What sort of foods should I eat while detoxing?
So I've quit smoking marijuana very recently and I'm currently trying to clean out my system. I've heard of detox kits, but I'm kinda iffy on their effectiveness and any adverse side effects. I'm trying to just go the natural way: drink lots of water, take a few key vitamins(niacin and fiber), and do a couple of hours of calisthenics every day. I know the THC(active chemical in marijuana) is stored in fat, and it is my understanding that I am supposed to avoid foods with lots of fat or sugar. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge of this, and if there are any things I have wrong or any other things I should avoid. Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
      So...got into any fight recently?
Try to manage your mood swings.
One of my sons who is 21 just quit marijuana (he wants a summer job and has to be tested). He’s the perfect son, a college student with perfect grades, smart, athletic, has a great sense of humor and he’s loving and sensitive to me, his mother. I never even had any problems with him when he was a teenager. And then suddenly he’s screaming at me! I am who I am so I scream back and then wonder what is happening here?!? And then I realize (too late) that I was a bad mother, not realizing what he was going through. He needed my support and understanding, not my screaming at him back. Make sure your family knows what you’re going through and ask for their support...before you get into a screaming match, not after.

I never smoked marijuana but I smoked and quit nicotine and the withdrawal symptoms are somewhat similar...headache, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, anger, aggression, anxiety, sleep problems, nightmares, depression, constipation coupled with diarrhea, like your whole body is out of whack. I made sure to ask for my friends/family support before I quit so they would let me rant and pace in peace.
Marijuana withdrawals symptoms (not nicotine) also include vision problems like palinopsia and sensitivity to light. You also get loss of appetite...but it’s the opposite for nicotine withdrawal symptoms during which you need to munch all the time and ravenously eat carrots like a rabbit with rabies.

I don’t know about the avoidance of food with lots of fat or sugar. Surely avoid junk food with a lot of saturated fats, not just because you quit smoking marijuana but on a regular basis, so you can eat healthier. I don’t see any problem in eating the good kind of fats that your body needs (your organs) like olive (olives and olive oils), avocado, nuts, fish...
And you would need a lot of sugar (carbs) especially if you do a couple hours of calisthenics.
Weight training is anaerobic so fat burning shuts down because it’s very intense and you could never get enough oxygen to use body fat. Your body has to use blood sugar, which is why you need to eat before so you get enough energy.
Make sure you have a good high carbs meal one or two hours before you weight train.

Do not use detox kits. You’d get the same results with natural diuretic food, some of them are very healthy (the cabbage family) and have no side effect.

Diuretics are drinks like alcohol (my son who does not drink, asked me if he could drink my beer while quitting marijuana), tea (anything with caffeine like coffee), cranberry juice, and food like cucumbers, watermelons, fresh tomatoes, asparagus, artichokes, beets, carrots, lettuce, raw onions, oats, melon, celery, parsley and any veggie from the cabbage family...cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, Chinese broccoli (kay-lan), Chinese cabbage (bok choy), cress, cauliflower, turnips, kale, collard greens, mustard , canola (rapeseed), radish, horseradish, rutabaga, and hybrids like broccoflower (broccoli/cauliflower...green cauliflower and also Romanesco broccoli) or broccolini (broccoli/kay-lan) and 15 others...

I usually eat diuretics with salty food as to not have to fight dehydration by having to drink too much water and also be bothered by having to pee a lot. You’re not peeing more because you drink more water but because of the effect of the diuretics and drinking more water just helps you not dehydrate (to avoid chapped lips and dry skin...).
This is why some recipes have ingredients that complete one another. For example, cabbage is a diuretic so you have to eat it with something very salty in order to not dehydrate, like the “corned beef and cabbage” recipe I cook for St. Patrick’s Day...or sauerkraut/sausage combination, cauliflower/ham casserole, adding ham/bacon to your lettuce, tomato, onion sandwich, crunchy celery in your tuna salad, salty vinaigrette with artichokes or asparagus. If you eat a fresh tomato like an apple, biting into it (a good organic one, not tasteless commercial ones), it will taste much better with some salt, same with radishes, as your body knows that those are powerful diuretics.
If you eat/drink sodium separately from your diuretics (as you don’t add salt to your tea!), try to do it before and not after. I cannot drink tea without having something containing sodium beforehand (anything salty or things like V8, cheese, any canned veggies like carrots, peas or green beans, tomato juice...).

(End of my answer coming next...)
