What Does A Colon Cleanse Do

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How does a colon cleanse help the body and how effective is it?
I am thinking of getting a colon cleanse as I have been experiencing constipation for a while now. What I need to know is how does a colon cleanse help the body and how effective is it? Also, is it worth the money and how long would I have to use it?

    • ANSWER:
A colon cleanse can help your body rid itself of toxins that have built up in the intestines. If you're not eating enough fiber, which is cleansing, then your system will get backed up. Things can get clogged/stuck to the lining of your colon. You can then experience constipation, and even if you overcome the constipation, you may still have a residue of stuff stuck on the walls of the colon, causing a toxic buildup. So the colon cleanse is comprised of a combination of ingredients that will help to rid the colon of the toxic buildup. It is very effective. Some people can even lose a few pounds after going on a colon cleanse.

How long you would have to use it really depends upon which program or products you use. If I were you, I'd find a naturopathic doctor who will recommend the proper cleanse for you, as well as advise you what kind of a diet you should be consuming during and after the cleanse.

      Good luck!

    • ANSWER:
If you do a thorough, quality colon cleanse and then keep from eating constipation causing foods, you should have some good relief. I've done it with the cleanse listed on the website below. It lasts 10 days and really cleaned me out.

  5. QUESTION:
What is the best cure for compacted stools/colon cleanse?
I have been having a lot of problems with recurring constipation and have wanted to try a colon cleanse to get rid of the compacted stools. I just have a feeling that there are stools that are stuck in my bowels. My diet isn't terrible but isn't good either. Can you give an natural recommendations or commercially available colon cleanses that would loosen the compacted stools? I have seen a bunch of websites that try to see these. Which is good for this?

    • ANSWER:
Any "colon cleanse" that you buy is most likely just a laxative, which will indeed cleanse your colon temporarily but will not solve your problem. Your constipation is most likely due to your diet. You need to increase the amount of fiber you eat. The best sources of fiber are vegetables, and to a lesser extent whole grains and fruit (mostly in the peels). Without fiber, stools harden and compact.

  6. QUESTION:
What advantage does a colon cleanse have over a fleets?
I 'm going to have a colonoscopy soon. I will have to use fleets to clear my colon before the procedure. I was going to do a colon cleanse to improve the view for the procedure. However, the GNC rep I talked to said he didn't know why people didn't do a fleets every once in a while instead of a colon cleanse.

    • ANSWER:
Colon cleansing is typically herbal, whereas fleets is tried and true method :-)

  7. QUESTION:
Does a colon cleanse and fasting actually have health benefits?
I am thinking of taking a trip to a Thai spa and having a colon cleanse. Not the silly fifty pound health juices, I want to do the whole kit kaboodle. If it works.
It says that the colon is the 'root of all disease'. I seriously doubt this, but then again I'm not a health professional.

So: does the colon cleanse actually work with health benefits? And does the whole fasting - raw - food jam work?

    Thanks!
I'm centring on the colon bit - I know some people say it's rubbish, but is there any sorta scientific proof?

    • ANSWER:
If you use colon cleansing kits whose products are made up of chemicals and herbally based products they may not be safe and may cause more harm then good.

When it comes to natural colon cleansing products, the government doesn’t regulate it so essentially their safety, purity, and potency cannot be guaranteed. And, each state has its own rules about whether or not practitioners must be professionally licensed. So really it’s a risk you take when you start a new pill. There may be side effects or there may be nothing depending on what you are taking.

In my opinion the best colon cleansing and safest colon cleansing 'kit' would be by naturally improving your lifestyle starting with nutrition.

A colon cleansing diet would consist of fruits, vegetables, berries, clean meats, oils, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, and whole grains. I’m a vegetarian myself so I obviously don’t include meat in my diet and neither would any other vegetarian. But for the most part you want to design a diet around those foods.

I do believe that disease starts from the colon or the digestive system. Proper nutrition is important and our digestive system does a lot of work for us - so when it is having problems it only goes to say the rest of our body will be having problems.

  8. QUESTION:
Where can I find Colon Cleanse reviews which are short and to the point ?
I just want a place with a quick comparison of colon cleanse products and colon cleanse reviews of key features to help take a decision. Any place that I visit has so much information about so many products that my head is spinning.

    • ANSWER:
Well, there are so many colon cleanse reviews out there that it is pretty easy to get lost, as you clearly are. However, a li'l effort searching on the right search engines like yahoo can help you get to the right content quickly.

Anyways the site mentioned in the source below contains short reviews of the most reputed colon cleanse products out there in the market. Hope this is what you were looking for!

  9. QUESTION:
How can I do a cheap colon cleanse?
I want to do a colon cleanse, but the stuff on the market is way out of my budget. If I just do some psyllium capsules and some pro-biotics (like acidophilus), will that work just as well as the expensive stuff like Evercleanse?

    • ANSWER:
Forget the colon cleanse. Your colon is clean. Detox is an alt med scam and can be dangerous.

TV show, "What's Good For You" recently tested detox products.

      Results:

Weight loss. One member of the detox group dropped out on day four as she was experiencing dizziness, headaches and nausea. In this time she lost almost 3kgs. The two other members of the detox group lasted the week — and lost 2.5kg and 4kg each. Our expert, Associate Professor Katherine Samaras of the Garvan Institute, believes the weight loss will be put straight back on. Plus the diet may have also altered the detoxers' metabolisms making it more difficult for them to lose weight in the future.

Blood tests. The blood tests showed decreased liver function in all members of the detox group. Their livers were shocked by the strict diet and weren't functioning very well. The blood tests also showed an increase in triglycerides (the bad blood fats that predict our risk to heart disease) and a decrease in the protective cholesterol.

      Conclusion
Within our group of six people the liquid detox diet did not help the body eliminate toxins. In fact, the diet did them more harm than good! The body is fantastically designed to eliminate by-products without needing any assistance at all. If you have overindulged Professor Samaras recommends a light healthy diet for one or two days to let your body recover.

      From Skepdic.com:
It's an irrational concept, yet an intriguing idea, that modern life so fills us with poisons from polluted air and food additives that we need to be periodically "cleaned out" ("detoxified"). Never mind that natural chemicals in our foods are thousands of times more potent than additives, or that most Americans are healthier, live longer, and can choose from the most healthful food supply ever available. -- Frances M. Berg, M.S.

Real detoxification of foreign substances takes place in the liver, which modifies their chemical structure so they can be excreted by the kidneys which filter them from the blood into the urine. --Stephen Barrett, M.D.

"Toxin" is classic pseudoscience terminology. --Ben Goldacre, M.D.

"...these detox programs amount to a large quantity of excrement, both literally and figuratively.” --Peter Pressman, M.D.

  11. QUESTION:
Is there a way to do a colon cleanse while still eating carbs etc?
I'm a 16 year old girl. I get bad gas and a bloated stomach a lot. I've worked out that I need to do a colon cleanse, but I think it would be extremely unhealthy for me to only eat raw fruit and vegetables for such a length of time. Is there any way to do a colon cleanse while still eating normally? For example, drinking water, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon on top of a healthy diet with wholemeal bread, fruit, veg and beans etc?

    • ANSWER:
It's possible that doing a colon cleanse would help take care of the gas... but it might make it worse, too.
Gas is commonly caused by improper digestion (either of one particular type of food like dairy or beans or by certain categories of foods) so there are a few ways you could address this. You could take the time and effort to keep a food diary and find out what types of foods you generally eat before getting gas, but some just like to help their digestion regardless of what foods may be causing the problem. One of the best way to take care of it is generally by taking a good digestive enzyme complex to help with the digestion.
Although with that being said, there are three major puzzle pieces for proper digestion... enzymes, fiber, and Probiotics. If the enzymes aren't enough, you could increase your fiber intake (fruits, veggies, grains, pastas, etc) and/or Probiotics in any order.

Doing a colon cleanse is almost like doing a hard reset... flushing everything out (good and bad) and hoping the good is replenished more than the bad. Unfortunately, if something in your current diet is causing the gas, then it will come back after a colon cleanse. Yes, you can still eat carbs and "regular food" while doing a cleanse, but it'll just replace the feces going out. Also, as a side note, I've heard of some pretty bad reactions to the cleanse you mentioned with maple syrup and whatnot... it's a lot healthier to do a lower-level cleanse by increasing your fiber intake, eating more fruits and veggies, and eating less processed foods. Good luck and I hope I helped!

  12. QUESTION:
How many bowel movements should a person have who is on a diet colon cleanse?
I have conflicting information as to how many bowl movements is good or normal. What is the normal amount for a person with a healthy cleansed colon or is on a regular colon cleanse regiment?

    • ANSWER:
It's basically impossible to predict. Many of these 'cleansing' procedures are not particularly healthy - in addition to having no actual health benefits. For some people it is normal to have a bowel movement only two times a week, for others, daily. Either is completely normal, and there's nothing pathological about either. 13. QUESTION:
Is colon cleansing different to prepping for a colonoscopy?
I'm thinking about doing a colon cleanse, but was wondering how similar the effects are to the prepping you have to do for a colonoscopy. I had that test not too long ago, so wondered if it would even be worth my while doing the cleanse?

    • ANSWER:
Yes- prepping for a colonoscopy is cleaning out your colon for a reason.

"Colon cleanse" quackery is cleaning out your colon for no good reason at all. Unless you LIKE diarrhea and hemorrhoids and a sore bottom.

Many 'cleansing' regimens severely disrupt the internal flora and absorption processes of the GI tract. This can result in a slowing of bowel movements and constipation all the way to constant runny diarrhea. That's of course for those regimens that actually do anything to the GI system at all.

Basically, it's impossible to gauge health or normalcy from bowel movements. There's a huge range, and despite what the charming evangelist selling laxatives on the TV at night says, you can't claim any particular number as what everyone should be having. It's not very productive to focus a lot of energy on this, as the medical data is quite clear about the above. Visit this site, if you want to know how to get colon cleanse benefits for your body

  15. QUESTION:
How many lbs do you loose when you colon cleanse?
I am doing a colon cleanse before i start a fairly large diet [at least 50 lbs by august!] and i was wondering what the colon does and how many pounds on average that you might loose. thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Yes - you can lose weight with a colon cleanse!

The colon is part of your digestive system - it's main function is to absorb the vitamins and nutrients from the food you eat, and to pass the waste on to... the end of the line. lol!

The problem is that our digestive system isn't set up to process a lot of the foods we eat - like meat products, processed foods and some dairy. Little bits can get left behind in the colon and, over time, these can really add up, leading to weight gain, gas, bloating and even more serious conditions like diverticulitis.

This is where colon cleanse products come in - they help to remove all this built up gunk and replace the natural bacteria that grow in your colon. When all the stuff comes out, it makes sense that you lose weight.

Personally, I lost about 43 pounds using colon cleanse products along with another supplement. To read my story, click on the link below:

  23. QUESTION:
Can I do a colon cleanse and still take my birth control pills?
I just started a colon cleanse, but the whole point of it is that it absorbs everything in your intestines and then pushes it out.

But I don't want my birth control absorbed out! Can I still take it and it be effective? Or if I woke up at 3 am in the morning (I take my last dose of colon cleanse stuff at 10 pm, the next one at 7 am) and took the BC would it still be effective?

    thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Probably not. Alot of people are warned about birth control pills interacting with antibiotics, or if they are having diarrhea or frequent loose stools. The reason for this is due to the fact that in order to be effective bacteria in your stomach must effectively break down parts of the hormones in the BC that have been recycled through your liver and must be re asborbed once again to reach the target hormone level (required to suppress ovulation). If the contents of the intestines are cleared prematurely, or there is a lack of bacteria (ie after taking an antibiotic) there is a risk of incomplete absorption of your BC.

Your suggestion theoretically would work, but I would be extra cautious. I would suggest either of two things:
      a) Do not take your BC on the day you do your colon cleanse and take 2 pills the following day, then resume as normal.

      b) Take your BC as normal, use backup contraception for 7 days after the colon cleanse (I would recommend using extra method of contraception for the remainder of your cycle).

It is ultimately up to you and how comfortable you are. There is always some slight risk regardless with birth control pills, but the number is quite low, mostly due to human error (such as missing pills).

Lastly, the colon is self cleansing and does not require products to cleanse the bowel or intestinal contents. Sometimes these products can lead to electrolyte disturbances such as hyponatremia, or hypokalemia. Obviously, this decision is up to you but you should be cautious when using them, and perhaps check with your doctor regarding its safety for you. Hope this helps.

  24. QUESTION:
What is the best colon cleanse, and are they safe?
Hello, I have been wanting to try a colon cleanse. I need someone who knows or who has used one to tell me a few things:
is it ok to use one at my age of 15,
    will it be painful,
will I be spending the majority of my days on the toilet,
    are they safe,
and which one would you personally recommend?
I don't want to get in over my head here.

    • ANSWER:
Before you do a colon cleanse, make sure it is o.k. with your parents. It is not painful and is safe. If you go to your local health store and ask for an all natural colon cleanse, they can help you. Wait after you have eaten dinner for at least two hours before you take a pill. It is not like a laxative. If you don't have a health store close, you can go to this site a friend gave me.

  25. QUESTION:
How do you do a colon cleanse?
I want to do a colon cleanse without taking any pills. Do I only drink liquids?

Are there certain foods like fruits I can eat?

How long do you stay on it and what effects does it have on you?

    • ANSWER:
You didn't say how old you are. Doing a colon cleanse is a good thing but the rules have to be followed for you to do it in a healthy manner. There is a tea that you can get from your health food store. It is a TEA NOT a SYSTEM. Follow the directions. Also try drinking more water to keep hydrated. Try more salads and fruits. Stay away from junk, you konw the junk I'm talking about! The teenage junk food!

  26. QUESTION:
How do you go about giving yourself a colon cleanse?
This is gross but ever since I've heard that the average person has about 5 lbs. of impacted fecal matter lining their colon I've always wanted to do a colon cleanse. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
The notion that your colon needs cleansing is a triumph of marketing. There have been clinical studies, but none produced results backing the claims of colon cleansing products.

      What the studies did show:
--Fecal material does not collect, impacted on the colon walls.

--Fecal material in the colon is not toxic and cannot poison. (Or constipated people would be found dead on the street. "Look, Jerry, there's another one. Poor bastard didn't eat enough fiber.")

--Removing fecal material earlier than it might otherwise have exited the body does not improve health in any way.

Colon cleansing is quackery, designed to sell you a product you don’t need.

There is no legitimate reason to cleanse your colon unless you're getting a colonoscopy. (And the various colon cleansing products marketed on TV and in magazines are not what gastroenterologists want patients to use.)

Flushing everything out of the colon is not the secret to weight loss or better health. It results in weight loss not because it's healthy but because poop and future poop weighs something. You’ll feel better because you *believe* you’ve done something healthy, not because you *have* done something healthy.

More beneficial than a colon cleansing is consistently eating whole grains, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and drinking enough to be properly hydrated all the time. Spend your health care dollars and time on something that's actually beneficial.

  27. QUESTION:
How many pounds could I lose after a colon cleanse?
I'm doing a colon cleanse, how many pounds can I lose? && how long will it take me to lose it?

  29. QUESTION:
Need advise on an effective colon cleanse thats safe and cheap?
Im constantly bloated latley, stressed out, not going everyday. I think I need a good colon cleanse, and something to remove the waste weight.

Any sugguestions on products or foods.. I am on a tight budget.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
If all you think you need is to take a good poop, then eat a lot of natural natural fiber in the form of raw vegetables.

Now, if you think need a colon cleanse, then you need to go to the doctor and get a colonic. "Safe" and "Cheap" are two terms that do not go together when discussing medical procedures. Also, no magic food or drink is going to roto-rooter your bowels.

  30. QUESTION:
How long should I do this colon cleanse?
I am going to start taking Yerba Prima Psyllium Whole Husks Colon Cleanser Powder. How long should I take it before stopping. I read that your should do a colon cleanse for about three days. Is that long enough? How do I know if I've cleansed my system enough to stop?

    • ANSWER:
You read wrong. If you need to clean your colon it is because you have a medical problem and should be consulting with your physician and not YA. If you don't have a medical problem, you shouldn't be cleaning your colon because cleanses are bogus fads which do nothing worthwhile.

The problem with the internet is it is difficult to know what websites to trust. Especially in diet and fitness where there is no good proof and the US federal law tolerates all sorts of scams (eg: DHSEA1998), it is easy to be misled, scammed, and bilked. The way search engines work is to show you the most popular websites at the top and the least popular at the bottom...often buried in an mess of thousands of hits. And, popular does not mean good or true. It often means fad or trendy or mediocre or memetic or myth. And, is asking a bunch of strangers in YA really a good way to get information? Well, there are some excellent websites you CAN trust. They usually end in dot gov and contain some very heady scientific articles which are buried among other articles. The reason is the US government doesn't have the time or money to debunk all the junk, bogus, and just plain bad information on the web. So, if you want the truth, you're going to have to do your homework and dig for it. Here are some links to help you with your question.

Detox diets and cleanses are don't work. There is no diet which will cause your body to get rid of toxins, heavy metals, poisonous by-products from smoking, drugs, etc. And cleanses for the purpose of weight loss don't work because they can only eliminate water and small amounts of waste which the body will replace very quickly.

      Check out these reliable references.

      "'Cleansing' diets may be worthless"
      http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/detox-diets-purging-myths

"A day on a detox diet program probably won't hurt you, but there's little point in following these restrictive diets - and they can do far more harm than good, says Michelle May, MD,"
      http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=64306

"Detox diets are a waste of time and money, say scientists"
      http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article784402.ece

"The human body can defend itself very
well against most environmental insults and the effects of occasional indulgence. If you’re generally healthy, stick to giving your body what it needs to maintain its own detox system— a healthful diet, adequate fluid intake, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and all recommended medical check-ups. Don’t waste your money...follow a healthy, balanced lifestyle instead."
      Ref: http://www.lee-county.com/gov/dept/HumanResources/Wellness_Newsletters/Aug%2008.pdf

The way to detox is to stop ingesting toxins and let your body cleanse itself naturally. And cleanses, purges, emetics, enemas, etc. cannot remove fat from your body or make your body lose fat. If fat is your problem, you're eventually going to realize that nothing works except a proper diet for life or surgery. The best diet for all normal adults hasn’t changed. It is still a varied, balanced, nutritious, and properly apportioned diet of high quality foods.

With the help of the web and it's instant global communication, it only took about a week for the Oprah/Oz acai myth to span the globe. So, one thing is certain. If there was an easy way to detox or lose fat through cleansing, the whole world would know about it very quickly. Why hasn't that happened? Think about it.

      Good luck and good health!!

  31. QUESTION:
How much does a colon cleanse cost?
When I DID have insurance, I asked for one and my doctor said no. She wouldn't even examine my colon maybe because I don't fall into the stereotype of the older male patient who get VIP treatment.

Anyway, lately I see little drops of blood from my behind and things just don't feel right back there, plus I have a family history of colon cancer. I currently no longer have health insurance. Can I just walk into a hospital and request a colon cleanse and if so how much out of pocket would it cost?

    • ANSWER:
You don't need a colon cleanse you need a COLONOSCOPY! That can detect cancer. A colon cleanse will simply empty your bowels of feces. That's not going to do much for you. If you really want to clean the pipes get a Fleets Enema from the store and take Metamucil. That will clean you out. Call your local hospital they may have programs for uninsured at risk people with a family history to get a colonoscopy. Or have a sliding scale fee. Out of pocket would be expensive because they sedate you for the procedure wich always costs waaaaay too much!!

My husband and I started a colon cleanse 3 weeks ago. Everything is working as planned except Im concerned I might be pregnant.Being pregnant is not a problem except the medicine we are taking states that you shouldnt use it if you are pregnant or nursing. I have done some research on why or what will happen or could happen and havent been able to find an answer. So does anyone know what happens if I become pregnant while on a colon cleanse. Just in case Im taking Colonix by Dr Natura.

    • ANSWER:
Any time you are taking medication that states it can be harmful if pregnant or nursing, is because it can cause a deformaty in your child or delay the process of growth. The best thing to do is to go to a ob/gyn or a free clinic based in a hospital in your area, and for your own saftey they can find out if your pregnant with blood work. He should also give you a recommendation on what medications are available for your pregnancy if infact there is one. But your first step would be to stop until you go to the ob/gyn. There you can get all of the help you need. Hope i helped.

  36. QUESTION:
What's the deal with getting a colon cleanse? Would it be worth the money or is just a fad?
I heard that the average person has anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds of fecal matter build up inside their colon! (YUCK) and that a colon cleansing can get rid of that. Is that true or just junk science?

Also, if a colon cleansing is worth the money, do you have to go to a doctor to get one done or can you buy something at a drug store or health food store and do it yourself?

Thanks for any help and / or advice.

    • ANSWER:
It's junk science. A "colon cleanse" is nothing but an enema. It might wash out everything, but within a few days (assume you keep eating), you'll replace all of it.

You'd be better off to learn and follow a healthy diet, set up a regular program of exercise, and get a physical once a year, just like your doctor has been telling you. That's boring and dull, but it works better in the long run.

Colon cleansing is well worth it. I was skeptical when I first tried it, but trust me, you will feel so much better. Doctors tend to frown on this kind of thing because it has more to do with natural medicine. There are natural clinics you can go to to have it done (colonic), or you can find pills at a natural health store. Here is some info.

  40. QUESTION:
What are the dangers of using a colon cleanse with abdominal pain?
I have had persistent abdominal pressure in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen underneath my ribs, and also i have these brown spots on the skin of my abdomen that are near where is hurts. The pressure has been there since July 09, 2011. These past few days it has gotten worse, along with constipation. Would it be okay to use an herbal colon cleanse with the abdominal pain though the bottle advises against it? If not, Why?

    Thanks for your time.

    • ANSWER:
It should be performed by professional and well trained practitioner. The temperature of the water used for such therapy has to lie specifically between certain degrees and if it goes beyond it, it can burn the intestinal cells and can harm the tract. The colon hydrotherapy also requires to be noted for its input quantity and output. The water inserted into the intestines should come out in a specific quantity and if it retains within the intestines for a long period and does not come out, it may create some complications such as abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting etc.
The herbs are to be used in specific quantity for a specific problem. For instance, in South Asian region, Terminalia chebula has been used to cleanse the colon, especially in case of constipation but if the dose exceeds, it causes diarrhea and then requires medication to stop diarrhea! On the other hand, herbs used to get rid of parasites/worms are generally ‘spicy’ or ‘hot’ in their properties and if used in excess, can create burning sensation in stomach and/or intestines. Probiotics, used to treat colon problem should be consumed in particular quantity since over dose will create abdominal cramps and diarrhea/constipation.

  41. QUESTION:
How many bowel movements should a person have who is on a diet colon cleanse?
I have conflicting information as to how many bowl movements is good or normal. What is the normal amount for a person with a healthy cleansed colon or is on a regular colon cleanse regiment?
Please site your source for the answer to this question. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
It's basically impossible to predict. Many of these 'cleansing' procedures are not particularly healthy - in addition to having no actual health benefits. For some people it is normal to have a bowel movement only two times a week, for others, daily. Either is completely normal, and there's nothing pathological about either.

It's not very productive to focus a lot of energy on this, as the medical data is quite clear about the above.

what is a good at home treatment for a colon cleanse?
I have heard to help lose weight one should do a colon cleanse to get rid of toxins. I just want to know what I can do with out spending lots of money.

    • ANSWER:
I love questions like this. There are hundreds of books out there that say something like "death begins in the colon" and "cleanse the toxins" and other rubbish.

While there is truth to poor diets causing ill health (Americans eat a lot of fat and have a very high incidence of colon cancer), there's a lot of myths too.

Fiber is the key. Instead of looking for miracle cures, adapt a healthy lifestyle. Eat whole-fiber, low fat foods and read labels. (While you're at it, cut down on the salt too). Just reaching the FDA's recommended allowance of fiber daily can be a challenge. (No more fast food!) Also, drink plenty of water. You can't flush out the bad if it's stuck like a rock inside of you. (Constipation hurts). Finally, exercise. Along with all the other health benefits (and burning calories, duh) regular exercise will promote peristalsis (the regular movement of stuff through your insides).

Seriously though, it takes some work to keep yourself healthy. Keep at it. And please stay away from people who are going to shove stuff where it doesn't belong and "flush you out". That's really not good for you. Also, stay away from laxatives unless your doctor suggests it. They can have very bad side effects.

      Just eat right and exercise.

Footnote: Enemas and Go-Lytly are not good! You can severely imbalance your sodium and postassium levels! (read: heart failure) Don't stick things up there unless a doctor (a real doctor) tells you to!

  49. QUESTION:
If I use acai burn will I get the same results without using colon cleanse?
I am a teenager, I have read that this is a healthy supplement. I just want to know that if I use acai burn alone will it give me the same results as using colon cleanse and acai burn together?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Megan,

Since you're still a teenager, I'd really recommend not using any supplements at all - whether it's colon cleanse products or acai berries. Colon cleanse products especially can mess with the natural level of bacteria in your intestines (depending on the specific brand you use and whether or not it contains a probiotic supplement). Since your body is still growing and developing, it's best to stick with a healthy diet and exercise alone.

However, if you're dead set on using a colon cleanse product, check out the Colon Clean brand specifically. I used that one with an acai berry supplement to lose about 43 pounds in the last three months, and can recommend it as a solid brand. If you want to learn more, check out my blog at:
