    I found out that i eat when im not hungry, and it's bc of cravings. If it wasnt for them i'd be able to lose weight more efficiently.       I totally agree with mtreid2001 - the master cleanse is a terrific way to detox and break a food craving cycle. I've done it for 7 days myself with no negative effect.

      Food cravings can be caused by a lot of things though, for example an overabundance of yeast (candida) or emotional issues, just to name a couple. As you travel your path to wellness using mindfulness might help you determine if your craving is linked to unconscious or unresolved emotional issues. (when i feel angry i am attracted to chips - darn it).

      If, after reasonable attempts, you have no relief from cravings a visit to a health care professional would be in order.

      We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, raw nuts, vegetables,lean meats, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
      Lots of water ,green tea (antioxidant), and diluted fruit juices.
      Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda. Read food labels. If you can't pronounce it, don't put it in your body. Some cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
      Spend your money in the produce department and your body will cleanse itself..

    The New York Times published an article yesterday stating the weight loss INDUSTRY is now estimated at billion per year. That's up billion per year from just two years ago.
    And yet we still only have a 5% success rate for weight loss lasting more than two years.
    Why are the con artists selling acai pills, colon cleanses, packaged foods, shake weights, and ab crunch gizmos really sucking the consumer public dry? When will we wake up and realize there is no shortcut to a healthy weight and lifestyle?

      When education is acknowledged as the linchpin of our society, and is embraced as such. People need more guidance. Parenting is lost amidst next weeks report and next months bills. Schools are the only way to guarantee exposure to proper diet, fitness activity, etc.

    How am I going to survive not being allowed to eat for 2 days?
    I am in the hospital for a paralytic ileus and they have to do a digestive cleansing. At first, food was the furthest thing from my mind but now it's been over 24 hours since I ate and I am starving.... How do I get through this?

      Dri k Lots of Fluids, and Sleep a'lot, and you will be able to gst through this. You will not die from food xeprivation unless it is longer than two weeks. Two days is fine though. I survived a week without food a couple of times just sleep alot and your all good. Good luck.

    What foods and drinks are good for acne and complexion?
    I'm looking for foods that are good for naturally treating acne and that are good for the complexion. (I've heard that vitamin C and D are good for the complexion, not sure if this is true or not).

      For a healthy complexion, make sure that you eat leafy greens, a variety of colorful vegetables, anything with a high water content and vitamins (fruit, salads). Drink lots of green tea as it cleanses the skin, and make sure that you get plenty of water. Eggs are good for the skin hair and nails due to the high protein content. Fish and nuts are also filled with Omega 3 Fatty Acids which are beneficial to the skin and general appearance.

      Any time you're planning to cleanse your body, you need to prepare a few days in advance by drinking fresh pressed juices, soups, and things that are mostly liquid and only made of vegetables. Then you can incorporate lemon juice, cayenne pepper, ginger, etc. Make teas out of these and drink them daily.
      You can also do a cleanse on just fresh juiced vegetables. You can look online for a recipe, but I recommend a book on it. Also, lots of water, as it transports nutrients to the cells and flushes toxins out of your organs. Add some exercise, (but not too much WHILE you're doing a cleanse because you'll have less energy) and you'll be good to go.

    I'm starting a long term (3 month) detox which is designed to wean you off unhealthy food and get you to start eating healthy alternatives. I was wondering if eating healthy for a long period of time will reverse food allergies that were gained in adolescence.

      Anything from a health food store or smoke shop that says DETOX on the label should work fine. Drink lots of water and pee alot the day of and the day before your drug test. Drink at least a gallon of water after u drink the detox. Beware that detox doesn't work on hardcore drugs like meth..

    What foods should you avoid if you have gallbladder pain?
    Twice in six months, I've had attacks of gallbladder pain which my chiropractor has treated successfully. Are there certain foods you would recommend avoiding to prevent future attacks? And secondly, are there foods which are comforting to a gallbladder? I know I need to avoid high fat foods, which seems to be my trigger. I definitely want to hold on to what is mine and avoid having a cholecystectomy! Any tricks to end the pain quickly when an attack does strike? Thanks so much for your help!

      Here are some ideas to resolve your issue.

      Natural Cures

      Most gallbladder surgeries can be easily avoided through nutritional and natural intervention, with emphasis on identification, avoidance, and treatment of food allergies.

      Diet: Identify and avoid all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive, especially eggs, milk and dairy products, gluten, wheat and dairy products. Also reduce your saturated and overall fat intake, keeping it below 20 percent of the total foods you eat, and eliminate all processed and hydrogenated fats. But do not cut fat completely, as this can actually increase your chances of developing gallstones. Monounsaturated fats (olive oil, coconut oil) are the best fats to include in your diet.

      Be sure to eat less, as well, since overeating places stress on the gallbladder. At the same time, be sure to eat breakfast, don`t skip meals, and eat a balanced and healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes and other vegetarian sources of protein. Increase your intake of dietary fiber to improve bowel movements, and avoid refined carbohydrates, which can cause gallstone formation. Overall, eat less animal foods, remove processed foods and move toward a whole foods vegetarian-oriented diet. If you are overweight, lose the weight, but slowly and sensibly.

      Good foods to include in your diet are black cherries, pears, beets (raw and cooked), fresh steamed and water sautéed greens such as beet tops collards, kale, plenty of steamed broccoli and cauliflower, snack on seasonal fruits, eat plain organic yogurt, as well as more raw foods in general.

      Gallbladder Flush: Flushing the gallbladder of stones is a common natural cure and practice of holistic physicians. It is quite easy.

      For six days do the following: Eat a whole foods diet with no animal products and no processed, refined foods. Eliminate all flour products, eat whole grains such as quinoa and brown rice. Limit dairy products to organic plain yogurt. Drink plenty of raw, fresh apple juice, and eat applesauce and organic apples as both meals and snacks. Eat fresh leafy green salads, steamed vegetables, tofu, tempeh, and vegetable soups.

      On the afternoon of the seventh day, have 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil mixed with 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice. Drink all at once and skip your evening meal.       I don't know if detoxing your body will help you achieve your dieting goals, but cranberry juice is a good detoxer. Are you exercising as well? One of the key components to losing weight is using more calories than you consume, so that your body has to take the extra needed calories (your body's energy source) from your fat cells. So my suggestion is just eat low calorie food, and exercise a lot. Ride a bike or walk to school or work instead of drive. Go for a jog instead of watch TV. Or find something you enjoy doing that is physically active, for me it is playing sports..

      sex is a good (and fun!) form of exercise as well, there is even something called sexercise where you purposely do difficult positions and other things like that to make your sex more of a workout. Look it up.
      Also, don't expect to lose 20 pounds instantly. Losing weight in a healthy manner is a slow process. If you lose 2 pounds a week your doing darn good! Make a plan and stick to it, you can do it!

      There are many products you can purchase that can help to flush out your system but I must warn that you may also flush out important flora, or good bacteria in your digestive tract. I recommend the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. The making of whey is very simple you can buy organic yogurt at the grocery and drain it through a cheese cloth or dish towel into a jar. You use the whey to lacto ferment vegetables, the most healing of these is the beet Kavas which uses 2 large beets, 1Tsalt, enough water to fill a 2 qt jar after all ingredients are added and 1/4 C whey you leave them set 2 days to ferment then move to refrigeration.

      According to Her book "Periodic fasting is an age-old method for restoring and maintaining health.       But the investment in 2 beets and a tub of organic yogurt is much cheaper, natural, and effective than expensive cleanses. Most cleanses you buy are attempting to recreate a similar effect but can not be the fresh natural effect you get with a lacto fermented fresh product.. She recommends you use this beet Kavas in you cooking regularly it has a sour almost like vinegar taste but will help with your digestion.       In reality you don't need to change anything. Sometimes it's best to take a warm water enema before your appointment, but not necessary. Remember, one session is not enough for a complete cleansing, it takes between 3 and 5.

      Red fruits are very good. This is the likes of red grapefruit, cherries, rasberries, strawberries etc.

      If you eat red meat,.. you would do well to only eat "organically raised",.. "grass fed" beef or bison. ....       I detox with Isagenix. A bit of $$$, but so worth it. You are spending less on groceries and eating out during the cleanse too.
      They have a 9-day program, where the average loss is 7lbs. I lost 12lbs on my first 9 day.

      Foods to avoid:
      •Salt. Too much salt upsets the body's regulation of fluids. Drinking water helps your body to flush out toxins. But too much salt makes your body retain the water you consume - and therefore toxins. All convenience foods - including many tinned and frozen foods.
      •Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. Try organic tea or coffee instead and have no more than two cups per day. Restrict your alcohol intake to a glass of good wine a night.
      •Saturated, polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats -particularly heated fats.
      •Dairy and wheat products.

      Take psyllium husk and coconut oil before every meal. This is a very gentle but effective colon cleanse. The psyllium husk is pure fibre and will 'scrub' the inside walls of your digestive tract. The coconut oil lubricates everything so foods passes through more easily and is also antibacterial and antifungal so it cleans. Also regularly eat foods that are high in Probiotics. I like kefir (strawberry flavour tastes like a fruit smoothie!) But yogurt and fermented vegetables are also good sources. Good bacteria helps you digest better

      Drink bitter teas after each meal. This may not sound pleasant but bitter foods stimulate your liver and help strengthen it so it works better. Look for ingredients like dandelion, burdock, milk thistle, licorise, cinnamon, etc. Don't take capsules, they are way less effective

      I think that would be a very hard thing to do. The first three days of the master cleanse is when your body is getting used to not eating solid food, so you would be repeating your hardest days every week. Plus if your eating is not good on the weekend, you will lose ground and be frustrated.

      You can actually get great results from just the basic 10-day cleanse and then go longer if you want to. If you do the master cleanse exactly as designed, your body will purge toxins and lose up to 2 pounds a day in a healthy way (not like a crash diet), and your cravings for unhealthy food will change. The experience can put you on a whole new path.

      If you haven't already, I would recommend picking up The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs so you understand the original design and not someone's improvement. It's a fast read and cheap - very inspirational too.

      Going to quote you real fast:

      "I read that consuming certain foods can cause a buildup called "fatty liver" and that when you have this is slows down you fat burning metabolism."

      It's actually far more complicated than that. I'm not going to go into everything here, but there are plenty of ways people burden their livers and destroy their organs -- much of the time willingly.

      To "cleanse the liver," there's only two things you can do:

      1: Stop burdening the liver.
      --- Typically this step involves doing >less.< Eat less, for example. Suck in less car exhaust, drink less cola, wash your hands less, shower less, etc. There are too many things to talk about here, so I'll just leave you with that and move on.

      2: Resupply your liver with what it needs.
      --- This step can be a huge problem for people, because there's so much misleading information out there. In fact, most of that misleading information has "clinical trial" stamped to it and is therefor approved by the government and the masses.
      --- But whatever -- they'll do what they want. I'll tell you the truth: In some way, you need to get just about every basal element into your body, all in different amounts. Magnesium, for example -- or zinc, or molybdenum, or hydrogen, or strontium.
      --- The liver needs many different materials to make tools with. If it can't make its tools, it can't repair itself or deal with the load its obligated to take on. You can cleanse you heart out with herbs and water and all sorts of things, but your liver will never be healthy without the elements it needs. This goes for the entire body.

      So, start researching, but lookout for the liars. Apparently you want to lose weight, which is fine, but be more concerned about your body as an organism. Go on a fast using pure, filtered water or deep-ground well water (get it analyzed), and remineralize it with dark sea salt ("dark" meaning the darkest in color you can find), sea water, or concentrated sea water (w/ or w/o sodium removed). Doing just that, you can expect to healthily lose five to twenty pounds a week, depending of course on how much weight there is to lose and what your body's condition is at the time.

      For Better Digestion Follow this:

      1. Every morning before breakfast, freshly squeeze the juice of 1 - 2 lemons in 250ml - 500ml of spring or filtered water. This small but effective daily routine will help to cleanse the stomach of left over 'debris' and remove any excess acid.

      2. Another daily drink taken late morning or sometime before lunch will complement the cleanse in 'Tip 1' . This can include 1tsp - 1 tbsp of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 250ml - 500ml apple juice (freshly squeezed is even better). This drink will balance digestive juices, specifically for low or high levels of Hydrochloric acid (HCl).

      3. Avoid cold drinks while eating. Food is digested more efficiently at around body temperature, therefore cold fluid can slow down the digestive processes. If you must drink while eating, try hot water or herbal teas. Caffeine can cause excess production of HCl so should be avoided, as should alcohol.

      4. Have you ever heard of Swedish Bitters? The taste of bitter herbs, foods, juices etc, 20 - 30mins before eating will increase digestive function by encouraging the release of digestive enzymes, juices and acids.

      5. Specific self massage and exercise techniques used as part of a daily routine will also contribute to better digestion.

      'LIVER EXERCISE' - This exercise massages the Liver and Gall Bladder, tonifying and cleansing these organs. It helps cope with abdominal wind, and assists digestion. Place the heel of the right hand on the right side of the body under the rib cage, and just above the hip bone. The fingers should point straight across the body. Pressing firmly, move the hand slowly across the body to the middle of the abdomen; you should end up with the heel of the hand over the navel. Repeat this action 10-20 times.

      'STOMACH EXERCISE' - This exercise is similar to the Liver Exercise, but is applied to the other side of the body. It benefits the digestion, the Spleen, and the Pancreas, as well as the Stomach. Method: Place the heel of the left hand between the rib cage and the left hip, with the fingers pointing across the body. Move the hand firmly and smoothly across to the centre of the body, until it is over the navel. Repeat 10-20 times.

      6. Short term fasting is one way to allow the digestive system a well deserved break. However "first time fasters"should try it for a maximum of 24hrs.

      Remember always to drink plenty of fruit and vegetable juice during your fast. Also plan your fasting for days when you will not be doing lots of hard physical work and can take plenty of rest.

      7. CHEW, CHEW, CHEW... One of the most important mechanisms of digestion, yet more often than not, the most forgotten!

      Chewing is the first stage of digestion. It not only physically breaks down foods, but signals the organs to secrete their digestive juices (pancreatic enzymes, stomach acids etc) in order to prepare for the incoming foods.

      Naturopaths believe that you should try to chew your food until it is near to a liquid consistency.

      8. 'Food Combining' can work well for many people. There are
      books available which explain the reasons for food combining, for
      example, 'The Hay Diet Made Easy: A Practical Guide to Food
      Combining' by Jackie & Alexandra Habgood. 'Food Combining' is not only for weight loss but can assist problems due to an imbalanced digestive system.

      Briefly, food combining involves the 3 main types of food/fuel i.e. Carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, rice), Proteins (meats, dairy, nuts, soya) and Fats (cooking oils, avocados). It is considered that one should not mix these types of food within one particular meal. For example, eat either carbohydrates alone or proteins alone, together with (non starchy) vegetables or salad.

      9. Colon Cleansing & Liver Cleansing through the use of herbs, foods and supplements will benefit the whole digestive system greatly. There are many companies and practitioners (Naturopathic) who recommend their own cleansing routines and you will find that many elements of the various routines will be similar.

      Any method is good if it does the job!       have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
      have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
      cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
      dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.

      The presence of suds indicates that the soap has not become saturated with grease or other matter such that it is no longer effective at cleaning the dishes.

      When you start out with a sink full of fresh water and dish soap, you get lots of suds because all you have in solution is the soap and water. The soap molecules bond together, allowing small spaces to be filled with air and retain a structure (bubbles). When you introduce a dirty dish and begin scrubbing it, the chemical action of the detergent is to bond on a molecular level with any contaminants (grease, food, whatever).

      Once that chemical bond takes place, the soap molecules will no longer bond to anything else - including other soap molecules. So, the soapy water will no longer have suds or bubbles. And, you know it's time to change the dishwater.

    I have not read stanley burrough's book but he says you can eat only certain foods while on the diet. What are they?

      Food is not allowed on this diet. It is strictly liquid that you will be consuming. I have done 4 full days (I am now in day 5) and have lost 8 pounds. I will be doing it for the full 10 days and, if I keep losing at this rate, I will lose 20 pounds. When you come off the diet, you have to work your digestive system up to receiving whole foods. You need to do more research but here is the basic diet:

      Days 1-10: Drink the "lemonade" and lots of distilled water (no tap or spring water)
      Day 11: Drink lots of water and as much orange juice as you like
      Day 12: Drink lots of water and drink chicken broth
      Day 13: Start consuming "regular" food but start slow with fruits and veggies

      P.S. The purpose of this diet is not to just lose weight (although that is the most popular reason for doing it). It is to wean you off of fatty foods and get you to eat fruits and veggies when you are done with the detox.

      When you eat a protine such as meats, eggs, milk products your stomach produces acidic juices to break them down.
      When you eat carbohydrates such as potatoes, breads, your stomach produces alkaline juices to break them down.
      If you mix an acid and an alkaline together they null in-void each other. Your stomach keeps pumping in more juices, the food doesn't digest in the proper amount of time and starts to rot in you stomach.       So from this I get that its ok to eat veggies with meat or veggies with carbs. (veggies are simple carbs and digest well with either) .

      This is what I do and really works great.

      First off, stay away from meat, sea foods, cheese, milk, butter, white bread, rice and pasta. Instead eat plenty of raw vegetables such as celery, carrot, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, avocado, salad or any other favorite vegetables and salads that you love. For carb - eat whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta in moderation. For protein eat avocado and/or fresh beans that you prepare at home. This is how to do prepare the fresh beans. Soak the beans for two hours in water and then drain and boil it until tender. Add your favorite seasonings, tomato, garlic olive oil and cook it a few more minutes. With this method, you can do similar dishes from whole lentils, chick peas and etc...

      Drink apple cider vinegar mixed with water at least once a day. Drink hot tea made of just honey and lemon. Don't drink sodas, juice etc... Just drink purified warm water if you can. That certainly washes all the toxins out of your body. Iced cold water will not do that. It just makes everything stagnant in your body, which makes it stay longer. Go for warm water, trust me, you will love it once you get use to drinking it. I don't eat breakfast before I drink a purified hot water. A great remedy for constipation too. You will feel the hot water cleanse your body for good.
