      Nobody "needs" to drink protein shakes. That's just what the manufacturers want you to think. protein shakes don't "grow muscle". Hormone does that, using proteins (from ANY source). Shakes are SUPPLEMENTS. That means "In addition to real food". Not instead of. They "supplement" your level of protein.. but only when you need more. Your body does not store protein like it does vitamins.

      Too much protein can be bad for your liver and kidneys, - yes, eventually. But you would need to be in ketosis, or 300-400% more then you need on a daily basis. And in that case -- you would get large in (body fat) more then anything. The calories in unused protein nutrients get stored. The rest get's flushed when you pee. Proteins also require carbohydrates and fats to get the full benefit. Something the manufacturers "forgot" to mention also.

If you want to keep your body in tip top form for swimming, the best thing you could do is simply eat a well balanced diet, heavy on the whole grains, fruits and veggies, and light on refined foods, fast foods, red meat, and fats. So stick with low to no fat dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt. Avoid the empty calories in junk foods and sodas. Do not try mixing up concoctions of strange things to eat or drink. They simply don't work, and your body won't appreciate the effort to help out. All you have to do is eat right, and trust your body knows what to do with the rest. That's the most natural way going.

      The cause of this "wine flush" has to do with how many Asians metabolize alchohol. Alchohol is absorbed through the stomach and small intestine. About 10 percent is eliminated by the kidneys, lungs, and sweat glands, but the rest is dealt with in the liver by two enzymes: alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). I don't know enough about the body's chemistry to know how these two enzymes actually manage to break down the alchohol, but it's enough to know that they do.

      It's this second enzyme (ALDH) that is missing (or low) in up to 50 percent of Asian people, and is not present at all in most Native Americans and Inuits. People with less ALDH will often flush and sweat after drinking alcohol, and if their quantities of the enzyme are quite low, they may also become ill after drinking even small amounts of booze.

      Recent studies also suggest women have fewer of these enzymes than men.

      I've lost 3 to Chronic Renal Failure over the years and each case was different. One was gone inside a couple of weeks and one managed with the condition for 18 months. Everything depends on how badly the kidneys are damaged - and they do not self-repair like the liver.

      If your dog only just got acute renal failure then it is possible that with the cause removed he may still be able to cope with residual kidney function.

      Sadly it is not a very nice way to die, you only need to speak with human kidney sufferers where there is no treatment. As the levels of toxins build up in your dog's system he will start to feel like he has a bad case of the flu plus nausea and stomach pains all the time. Your vet may allow you to give subcutaneous injections to flush the kidneys at home (more usual for people in the USA), this will temporarily make him feel a little better but it won't be long before he needs it again.
      Your dog will likely go totally off eating food and there will be maybe 3 weeks before the kidneys fail totally meaning that the dog can no longer regulate fluids and his quality of life will be virtually nil. At this stage they usually start to get seizures, eventually they will go into mulptiple organ failure and die as a result. I let my 3 dogs go before the seizure phase started and while they still had some quality of life; I consider keeping them longer to be very mean with that nasty disease.

      All food sources break down into "liquid" form once they pass through the stomach into the small intestine. The nutrients are then carried through your blood steam. Proteins pass through the liver. They aren't "stored" like vitamins. The circulate around the blood stream getting absorbed by anything that requires them for growth (muscle, hair, skin, fingernails, etc). They get filtered out when they reach the kidneys. At this point, the calorie is split off from the protein and is stored as body fat. The rest of the nutrient gets flushed down the toilet.

      Protein shakes are FAST absorbing, but also FAST moving too. It's a use it or lose it. If yoru not working your muscles hard - they wont absorb the nutrient and get flushed.

      Rule of thumb is 1g per lb of lean mass, but since the average body has a floating point number of how much get's absorbed, you could be only needing 60g per day, or 150g per day. That's not somethintg you can tell. But overdoing protien DOES NOT build bigger muscles. Hard work, and the NEED for bigger muscles (thus more protein absorbtion) does.

      If you use them sporadically.. (not very often) -- Then regardless of the medication.. no, it will not effect any part of your body if you are other wise healthy.

      Now, for more chronic use.. it goes something like this:

      For all pain relievers , if used more than once every 10-14 days, there are quite a few theories in the scientific community that support the idea that your pain threshold is lowered due to the use. Especially of narcotic pain relievers.. ie: Opiates -- e.g.: Lortab, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Codeine, etc.

      Now Over the counter painkillers, Ibuprofen, Tylenol/apap, Naproxen Sodium, etc -- the thresh-hold lowering theory is not nearly as pronounced.

      Here are the only dangers to your body:

      If you use OTC painkillers daily, or most days of the week -- keep it at a limit of 2000mg's maximum per day. If you use it sporadically, keep the limit at 4000mg's for that one day you need it. (This is in a 24hour period, not all at once). -- You see, OTC painkillers are metabolized hepatically and renally. So your kidneys and liver are effected. If you take them constantly, and exceed this general guideline the chance for causing trouble in these 3 organs go up considerably. So just use common sense, and exercise caution. Though, I wouldn't take on the notion that you can't have an Advil or Tylenol every once in a while for sore muscles/bruises etc.

      For prescription painkillers -- anything from Codeine, Hydrocodone to Oxycodone - You want to be especially careful.

      Again, same principle applies: If used very sporadically.. not gonna cause any problems. If used on a regular basis (say a few times a week or even every day) -- Then these WILL cause a dependency in your body.. and have a high profile to cause addiction.

      The dependency is where you've heard the 'detox' and flushing idea from. This would take you , taking something like Lortab, daily, for months on end -- then suddenly stopping to produce this effect.

      I don't think that is your intention at all, so the short of all of this is just use common sense and , no, they will not effect your cardio.

      Gallstones are solid deposits that form in the gallbladder. These gallstones can range from the size of tiny grains to as large as the gallbladder can expand to, possibly as large as a golf ball. Depending on the situation, gallstones will be made of one of two materials. The first, and most common type of gallstone is a cholesterol stone, which is generally a larger, yellow colored stone. The second kind of gallstone is a pigment stone, which is made of bilirubin. A pigment stone is created when the gallbladder is completely full of gallstones and the stones begin to "spill" into the common bile duct of the liver. This will prevent bile, a digestive fluid, from reaching the intestine, which will generally lead to white stool. If no symptoms are present, no medical procedures are necessary if an individual has gallstones. However, if stones begin to spill into the bile duct, this will eventually infect the bile duct and can lead to severe liver problems. Symptoms that go along with gallstones include severe abdominal pain, especially in the upper-right region, nausea and vomiting, jaundice, white stool, and consistent fever.

      Personally, I just had two surgeries done for gallstones, and unfortunately my gallbladder was completely full of stones that were beginning to infect my bile duct. TRUST ME, GALLSTONE ATTACKS ARE VERY PAINFUL.

      As for kidney stones, I am less familiar with the topic, but I do know that the stones are caused when there is a blockage in the urination cycle.       Not if your fruits and veggies are organic. Don't continue the detox too long though, you are not getting protein this way, and your health will begin to decline. Begin adding whole grains and legumes to have adequate protein for your tissues, organs, muscles.

    I stopped drinking a month ago and started taking milk thistle.

      My best advice would be to talk with a naturopath about how to clean your liver. The alcohol has, of course, caused a lot of damage to your liver. A naturopath can tell you just what to take to clean it and help it to heal. The liver is a very strong organ, and it can regenerate, but yours most likely needs some extensive repair.

      I spent many years eating less than healthy foods, taking lots of ibruprophen and sinus medication, and I did drink some in my wild single years. As a result my liver ended up enlarged, painful, and inflamed.

      I first did a colon cleanse and a parasite cleanse, which cleared the way for my liver to begin healing. I then did a liver flush about 5 times, removing thousands of gallstones (cholesterol). At times I felt pain in the area of my liver as some of the larger stones were expelled.

      Around that time, I visited a naturopath, who prescribed some drops for me to take. They were clear and tasteless, like water. I took them for about two months and my liver repaired and began to function normally.

      Now I have no issues with my liver, my colon or my kidneys. I wouldn't suggest you do the liver flush without first getting the advice of a naturopath, because it is possible that a large stone could become lodged in a bile duct and cause you to have to be hospitalized. It has been known to happen in rare instances.

      Hormones
      As for hormones, it is a good idea to be tested and find out what your hormone levels are before supplementing them. This way you'll know exactly what hormones are deficient. The three hormones below are most often supplemented when dealing with adrenal fatigue.

      DHEA - This is a basic adrenal hormone that the adrenals will convert into other hormones. If someone is very deficient in this hormone they may only be able to tolerate a small amount such as 5 mg. The average adult dose ranges between 10 and 25 mg. DHEA will also go on to become sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.

      Life Style Changes
      Removal of the stressors. This is the most important step. Emotional stressors such as marital, family, relationship, or financial problems needs to be dealt with and normalized.
      Rest and sleep are extremely important. You will need nine hours of sleep and maybe more for a very long time. Also rest after meals, at midmorning and mid-afternoon if possible.

      I am in recovery from drug use. My problem was not eating ( some times for a week at a time) and not drinking..well, water anyways.
      You will quit when its time for you to quit, I commend you for wanting to take care of yourself ( other than the opium) .
      These drugs can cause a dry mouth so please brush your teeth, mine are suffering from my neglect while I was "out there". Water will also help your kidneys and liver to help flush out any of the bad crud that may be cut into the drugs you are using.

      The amino acid cysteine bonds with heavy metals, so adding cysteine to your diet as a supplement or as a food is a very good idea. The wiki entry has a listing of different foods that contain higher levels of cysteine (eggs are a personal favorite of mine, for instance - good sources of protein, good source of nutrition, taste great).

      Without water you can't flush anything out, so drink lots of water. Sweating, preferably through excercise, and urination are the only ways you can "flush" anything out of your system (in the way that you mean flush).

      Most chemical cleansers are combinations of different herbs that have diuretic properties. If you consume an herb that makes your urinate more, you will drink more water. Ergo, the flush. That said, why not just drink water? You're on the right track, there. Herbs are drugs, and you should be careful about what drugs you put into your body. Just because they're natural doesn't mean they're safe. Caffeine is a diuretic - drink some coffee or an energy drink if you need that kind've thing.

      Water doesn't have to be distilled - as long as its reasonably clean you're okay. Your body has built in purifiers (liver, kidneys, etc), and they can handle some trace elements and a bit of salt in your water.

      Enemas are a waste of time, as far as "cleansing" or "flushing" goes.

      EDIT: Do NOT eat 2 cups of nutmeg! WTF are you thinking? This will accelerate your heart, could potentially make you feel like fainting or like your chest is pounding or your heart is in your throaght, you will probably get the sweats.... this is a reallly really really really bad idea. Nutmeg is an herb that is used as a spice, and is to be used carefully when cooking, and certainly not to be used in large quantities!

      Jeez... just be safe, okay? You can purify your body by eating less processed foods (no fast food!), drinking lots of water, getting plenty of good sleep, and excercising at a healthy level for your age and medical condition. There are no silver bullets, no magic compounds that will "do it all" for you, no electroshock therapy treatments at a spa that will "purify" you, it takes some dedication but it can be done.
